    Forsberg turns down Swedish club

...Lets see, Peter Forsberg or Darren McCarty... ...that doesn't even warrent a comment. Sign Forsberg (if he'll come) and then package Hudler to LA for Blake...

Just how many Americans do you think are on the team now? So you are saying that is why the Joe doesn't sell out? again...

    Trade Deadline Deals

...ok, with the trade deadline coming up, I figured maybe start a thread where we can discuss any and all players insted of the 900 different threads with the guys last name as the topic: "Forsberg" "Fedorov" "Sundin" "Hossa" etc... ...so lets centralize the trade deadline talk into this one thread. Who would you like to see go where, come here or go away. Lets be sensible though, none of the this Sammy/Lilja for Hossa crap, lets be realiztic with our wants and predictions... ...there's no doubt alot of us would like to see Hossa or Sundin here, but what about other options, smaller, less of an impact option? It's time to start looking at the teams that aren't gonna make the playoffs and see who they may be willing to part ways with... ...what will the Kings or the Lightning be giving up to change the direction of their teams? ...on a sidenote, looking at the standings, if the playoffs started today the Hurricanes would be the 3rd seed with 52 points which is less than the 4th-9th positions in the Eastern Conference. I, for one, think that just because you win your division shouldn't mean you get one of the top three seeds. The Rangers wouldn't make the playoffs and they have 3 more points than the Canes... ...on the same token, everyone in the top 8 in the west have more points than the outsiders. Also, Detroit would be the ONLY central division team to make it...

...you know what, if you pause it a moment of impact on the third replay (the closeup one at the 1:18 mark of the video) it is actually (clearly) a shoulder that hits him in the chin. Look at it, slow it down, frame by frame it. It's TooToo's shoulder that gets the impact, not his elbow as a matter of fact at the 1:49 mark it is no doubt, 100% sure that it is a shoulder, hence NOT AN ILLEGAL HIT, what is so dirty about that?

    Jordin Tootoo

...all this is so funny! WAh Wah, I hate him, he'd make us hated, he is a prick, I'd drink my own urine before I'd want him! LOL LOL LOL! ...how many fans outside of Detroit hated Vladdy? Did that bother us back then? How many of you guys hated Chris Chelios? I know I did! Wah Wah, if Forsberg came to play for us I puke! If Fedorov ever came back I'd still boo him, I hate his greedy a$$! ...why don't you tell the truth. Sure TooToo takes so bad penalties sometimes, maybe he cheapshots sometimes, he must not do it a lot because we don't hear of him getting suspended every other week. Who would you rather have on your team, Dallas Drake (with all due respect of Drake) or Jordin TooToo? Honestly, if you were a GM, and they cost similar salaries, who be more effective in their role? Like the original poster said, put your homerism aside... ...bottom line, Jordin TooToo is about 90% of what we've been crying about NOT having all these years, a gritty, checking hard-nosed player who can knock the snot out of people and chip in the occasional goal or two. Lets pretend we pick up TooToo and maybe a couple others that have been rumored... ...imagine this team with Downey & TooToo on it. Blake or Sydor or Foote on "D" along side Chelios and Lilja. Add Fedorov or Forsberg or Sundin for extra scoring up front. Would you honestly think that we'd be physically enept in the playoffs this year? Do you think Pronger gets away with headhunting Holmstrom. Shoot, if McCarty gets a shot add him in the playoff mix. You lose Hudler for sure, Drake sits, and possibly Kopecky. Ledba becomes the 7th defensman... Holmstrom - Datsyuk - Zetterberg Cleary - Flips - Forsberg or Sundin Franzen - Fedorov - TooToo Maltby - Draper - Downey or McCarty Drake/Kopecky Lidstrom - Rafalski Chelios - Kronwall Lilja - Foote or Blake or Sydor Ledba ...that right there not only adds scoring & grit up front, but makes our D one of the toughest and best in the league... ...I know thats a lot of moves, but realistically you only lose Hudler and maybe Kopecky off your roster. Throw in a prospect and a few picks and we could get a couple of guys (TooToo, Fedorov & Foote, plus add Forsberg if he stops being a baby) although with all the rumored players to be on the block, who knows what might happen... ...If Forsberg signs with Philly, I'd be happy to pick up Sundin or Fedorov along with Blake or Foote or Sydor and, like him or not, TooToo would brings huge dividends to this team(plus he could wear #22)

    Trade Deadline Deals

...Welcome! And you're right, we need physical depth on the line (last season proved that) and a little help with scoring (like someone who could've scored on one of those 5 on 3's,) that is why I can see a combo of Feds/Foote or someone like Murray and Sydor...

    Trade Deadline Deals

...shouldn't be much considering his status at the end of the season if he isn't signed. Even though teams try to get something for upcoming UFA's they cannot expect too much from anyone because they could just wait until July 1 and give him an offer. Then again, if you want him badly enough you could make a great offer in order to get him... ...I don't think Nashville would mind trading Dumont to Detroit as much as Detroit would hate to give them someone with high potential, possibly making the better again. Right now, Nashville blows, last year they were right there with us. One or two of the right players and they could be there again, I don't think Detroit wants to cut their own throat that way. If they are interested in Dumont, they will likely wait until July 1...

    Trade Deadline Deals

...here's how it's gonna go down. The Wings will aquire Fedorov/Foote from the Jackets for Hudler/Quincey/2nd rounder. Foote will love it here and convice Forsberg it's ok to sign here. Fedorov takes Hudler's place, Foote bumps Lilja or Lebda to 7th d-man, Forsberg signs and makes Kopecky the 13th forward sharing time with Downey. Drake is there for playoff help if needed... ...that is if they don't land Blake or Sundin... ...out of left field, the Wings could possibly land someone like Jagr or Jokinen. But on a much smaller scale they could go for someone like Glen Murray, Darryl Sydor or Brian Smolinski...

    Could Detroit trade Z?

  12. LeftWinger

    Could Detroit trade Z?

...no, there will be NO contract waiting for him on July 1st 12:01AM... ...I don't why everyone thinks Hank will be a UFA this summer. He won't be a UFA until 2009! I see everyone on here, including the most knowledgable of users saying stuff like "Holland will have to save money for Hank this summer" and words to the like. The opening poster said he hadn't heard anything on contract talks, ARice (very knowledgable) answered that Holland cannot begin talks until July 1st. Then NFM25 posted the above quote. 2009 guys! Oh and BTW the rule is you cannot start negotiating until the FINAL YEAR of the contract, so in essence on day one of the 2008-09 season Holland and Zetts can open up talks and get a deal done before he becomes a UFA. Remember when Fedorov turned down Hollands contract in December of 2002 after his divorce and hiring of a new agent? He became a UFA July 1st 2003. I know this is not a huge deal, but for some reason when it comes to Hank, everyone has a brain fart over and over again about his contract... ...he is signed until 2009, it's right on this website for all to read! http://www.letsgowings.com/insider/capchart.php

Lidstrom willing to make a call to Sundin

...the league would love to be able to control it's players freedom, thankfully they have a union (association) to protect players rights and freedoms. If they didn't then players would be stuck in losing situations with no hope of winning a cup, ever... ...the NHL is nothing but a business, just as Ford, GM or Northwest Airlines. These companies would love to get rid of unions, so they can get rid of employee rights (but that is a different subject.)

    Report: Brunnstrom chooses Detroit?

...why would this guy not get at least the #2 line? It's not like he is a no-name UFA that nobody heard of. Half the freaking NHL was trying to get this guy, Detroit is the winner in this sweepstakes. If all those teams were vying for this guy, don't you think that he is better than a 4th liner? Or is it that the Wings are so omnipotent that nobody can touch the top two lines? Please. Hudler is established? Not now. Holland didn't travel to Sweden himself to woo this kid to be a fourth liner. Vancouver was talking about putting him on the first line. Where would you rather go, somewhere that your are going to get 30 minutes or 8 minutes? Time to stop the man-love with Hudler, he was never that great and will never be that great on this team. His trade value is going down as we speak and so will his ice-time when this kid arrives here next training camp. Package Hudler now for someone who will help us win a Cup this year and come next season you don't miss a beat with Brunnstrom... ...4th liner, we have a Griffins team full of NHL fourth liners, this kid will be on the second line with Zetterberg as his center-man... so here are the potential lines Cleary - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Zetterberg - Brunnstrom Sammy - Filpulla - Kopecky Downey - Draper - Maltby ...unless they can get Sundin (if that is who they get at the deadline) to re-sign then that makes Downey the 13th forward again and shuffles Kopecky to the fourth line and Franzen to the third line. Cleary would drop to the second with Sundin at center then Zetterberg would return to the first line... Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Cleary - Sundin - Brunnstrom Sammy - Filpulla - Franzen Kopecky - Draper - Maltby ...of course as someone else mentioned, line combos are never set in stone here in Detroit, but that line up could produce many of quality line combos!

Lidstrom willing to make a call to Sundin

    Report: Brunnstrom chooses Detroit?

...hmmmm Osgood being one of those who also didn't win crap while he was away from the Wings, because of the teams he was on. Resign in Detroit, revitalize his career, All Star Starter, #1 GAA, sure sucked that we picked him up instead of letting Howard come up... ...lets see Robitaille didn't come here and have a great year in 01-02? He didn't score 30 goals? He didn't have 9 points in the playoffs enroute to his first Stanley Cup? No, he would have won one if he stayed in LA, no his production didn't help the Wings one bit... ...CuJo? He was the ONLY one playing when they got swept by the Ducks. HE had the best GAA in the playoffs that year and ONLY PLAYED 4 GAMES, besides when we signed him, he was a elite goalie already... ....Wendel only played in 12 games with the Wings and he had 6 points thats 41 points prorated over 82 games. And in 10 platoff games he had 5 points... ....Fedorov has not been to the playoffs since he left Detroit, because of the team he played/plays for. Same goes for Adam Foote since leaving Colorado, who, BTW, has suffered defensively since he left... ...Holland would be trading Hudler for Someone who will help this year. No, Brunnstrom will not replace Hudler this year after the trade deadline, but next season, if not traded, Hudler loses his icetime to Brunnstrom for sure, so trading Hudler at the deadline because Holland "Has Brunnstrom" does make sense, especially if Hudler, this season, is replaced by Sundin or Fedorov, who both KNOW how to win in the playoffs...

    All-Star Weekend Open Thread

...he won't come out and say it, but Canadian teams don't make him (The NHL) any money, all players salaries are paid in American currency and ticket sales and paking and concessions are all paid for in Canadian currency, even though the two dollars are pretty close in value, you multiply them by millions and it adds up! Not to mention the taxes the owners hav to pay in Canada... ...concerning Detroit moving back east, well, everyone, including Gary, knows that the East is where Detroit belongs. Could you imagine the rivalries within a divsion comprised of Detroit - Montreal - Toronto - Buffalo & Ottawa? Sheesh! Talk about ratings! The problem is, you have one team in the West that has been pretty much the NHL's biggest money maker since around 1993. You take Detroit out of the West, who is left to watch? Gary won't come out and say his Western conference teams lack the abiltiy to attract fans, but it's Detroit that sells out the other teams arena's when they are there. You take that away and nobody has sellouts. Gary's not a hockey guy, he's a lawyer in charge of making the owners as much money as possible. Without Detroit in the West, the West falls... ...with that said, I tried to finds ticket to the Feb. 2nd Wings/Leafs game in Toronto, SHEESH!!! That thing sold out day 1 and you cannot find a ticket (let alone 4) for less than the price of a small mansion...

Lidstrom willing to make a call to Sundin

...wow, that's steep! All three of the guys you mentioned (not Jesus) are all way to valuable to our system. Kindl will come up next season as our 7th D-Man, unless Chelios retires, then he'll round out the top 6. Kronner is finally playing great and, well, Flip is just as important to this teams future as Pav and Zetts. Soon Emmerton will be our #4 grinding centerman and our centers will be set for the next 10 years, sorta like when we had Yzerman/Fedorov/Larionov & Draper for all the years in a row... ...I'm telling ya, Hudler - Joakim Andersson - 2 picks gets us Sundin. Even if he is just a rental, it'll really only cost us Hudler and he is gonna be on the losing end of the Brunnstrom deal anyhow... ...I'd give up Quincey and a pick for Blake, that's it...
  21. LeftWinger

    Report: Brunnstrom chooses Detroit?

...exactly my point. Most people say Osgood is not a HOF'r because of the team he played behind. Using that logic, Fedorov and Foote or Blake's game would only improve if they came to a team like ours... ...either way, Sergei will be back, whether it's at the deadline or as a UFA... ...you can use your theory for McCarty also, he was the same way. Look, he went to Calgary and what happened? Wasn't quite as good (borderline sucked,) yet put him with Draper and Maltby, Shake and Bake!
  22. LeftWinger

Lidstrom willing to make a call to Sundin

...Sundin would be a plus, for sure. Hudler alone would not get him. Which prospects are you willing to give up in order to rent Sundin? Lord knows Kenny is NOT going to be spending a helluva lot this off season, he has to save for 2009 when Zetterberg is a UFA... ...then again, maybe he'll take less to stay here! (funny how we always think UFA's love Detroit so much that they'd take less to come here...) ...which roster players would have to be moved? Hudler for sure, Sammy maybe. But, which prospect(s) would get us Sundin? Would any team be interested in Grigorenko's rights? Doubt it. Quincey is from Kitchner, not too far from Toronto. Is Jimmy Howard EVER gonna make the club or should we deal him? Rumor has it the Wings are gonna be shopping for big name Goaler this off season (if Dom retires(which I hopr he does.)) So, lets say they know they are gonna make a pitch for a Kolzig, do they deal Howard to try to get Sundin or Hossa? ...personally any GM that mentions Filpulla should be slapped! Kopecky I don't feel either way about, he can be dealt. Maybe a team is interested in Matt Ellis, would he and Hudler get us Sundin? Or is that too much? Holland will make the deal if it's good. Pav and Hank & FLip (if he isn't traded) are gonna be around for a long time, there are our top 3 centers. Does Oulahen, McGrath or Helm actually have a chance of making this club before it's too late? Emmerton is going to be our grinding center once Draper retires, and Drapes s signed through 2011, so when does Emmerton get his chance? ...offer Toronto Jiri Hudler, Joakim Andersson and 2 picks. That's it, done deal... Really what do we lose? Hudler? He's gonna lose his minutes to Brunstrom...
  23. LeftWinger

    Report: Brunnstrom chooses Detroit?

...and so was Larry Murphey and Slava Fetisov when we aquired them, weren't they? ...you guys cannot have it both ways, you say Osgood only plays good and has as many wins as he does because of the team he played behind. Well, using that same logic, Foote and Fedorov have played crappy because of the team they play on, put them back in a winning franchise and a team that actually has a goal, then (using the logic I just spoke of) they would rejuvinate their careers. That IS whay Osgood is doing so well, right? \ ...Oh wait, now you say no, they are washed up, doesn't matter where they play, they would not help our team. Why would we want them? They know how to win in the playoffs, when it counts, that's why...
