...well talk about comparing apples and gold nuggets!!! One thing the author of that statement neglects. Also, BTW the NHL neglects the same thing, Michigan/Ohio State is one of the olderst Rivalry's in NCAA. Why? HISTORY, TRADITION, ORIGINAL BIG TEN SCHOOLS! In no way can a team that is barely a toddler in this league have a rivalry with an origianal 6 team. Hey Bettman, you want rivalry, move Detroit East, put them in the same division as Toronto, Montreal, Boston or NY, you want rivalry that sells arena's out? You want rivialry's that, well, rival Michigan/Ohio State or Notre Dame? ORIGINAL SIX!!!!! Damn you're so stupid!!!

...uh... ...did Patrick Roy play on crappy teams? Could one argue that half of his wins are because he played on great Montreal and Colorado teams? Didn't Broduer play for one of the best (if not the best) defensive teams to play in the 90's? Is it fair to say that half of his wins could be credited to the defensive system and all star players he played with? If you are saying Osgood only has as many wins as he does because of a stacked team, then this can be true of the others. BTW, the ONLY stacked team the Wings EVER had was 2001-2002 and guess what? Osgood didn't play for that team. No way can you call the 90's Wings teams STACKED. The Wings didn't start throwing money around like it was growing on trees until AFTER 1998. I think it's safe to say Osgood's record was helped by playing with a great defensive team in front of him, but no more than Broduer or Roy was. The only reason he MAY not make the HOF is because of WHERE he played. Nobody cares about players in Detroit, especially the news media and the NHL. Same reason Yzerman was NEVER looked upon as equal to Gretzky and Lemeiux. Look at the teams Gretzky played for in Edmonton, is it safe to say that half of his points should be credited to the likes of Messier, Anderson, Coffey, Kuri and the bunch? Yzerman played for the Dead Wings and was putting up 50 and 60 goals and over 100 points year after year. He WAS the Wings in the 80's. Say what you will about Hasek & Vernon, but Osgood has been the best Wings goalie since Terry Sawchuk, period. He deserves to be in the hall, he deserves his number retired he deserves to be making the money of a Khabibulan & Hasek AND he deserves his credit for the career numbers he put up, just has much credit as Broduer and Roy get for theirs... ...uh, he has never stole a series? Let's see, 1998, Dallas, Jamie Langenbruner just scored in OT with a clearing shot from the center ice! HUGE momentumn swing, how does Osgood respond? Does he slam his stick, does he lose confidence? Nope, comes back the next game and shuts them out, STEALING the momentum back from the Stars, thus reclaiming the series that with one shot tilted heavily in their favor...

...I can remember Steve Yzerman getting robbed a few times also, for MVP...

...Chris Osgood has been the best Wings goalie they've ever had in the modern era. No other goalie has more wins or Stanley Cups as a Wings goalie in the modern era. Lest we be reminded that there are only 15 goalies in the history of the NHL who have more wins. We forget how good Osgood has been throughout his career. There are only 3 goalies who have done better in the same timespan, Roy, Hasek & Broduer. Haske is all was all world at the time, he had a reputation, Roy was boisterous and vocal, Broduer was a phenom. Osgood quietly stacked up the wins, one after another, he doesn't slam his stick to the ice when he gives up a goal (good or bad) I would venture to say he is the Steve Yzerman of goalies, quietly lining up behind high profile players, but hanging with them. Roy has what, 3 Cups? As does Broduer, Hasek has 1. Ozzie has 2. If he finishes with 400 or more wins and remains a Red Wing for the rest of his career, #30 WILL hang in the rafters, especially if another Cup or two come back to Detroit before he retires...

I would offer Huds, plus 2 draft picks. All depends on when Vinny is a UFA, if he is coming up on that status it may cost a lot less. No way Datsyuk OR Zetterberg is involved. I wouldn't trade Zetterberg for ANYBODY, not even Crosby. That would be the equivilant of us trading Yzerman for Gretzky back in the summer of 89. Illitch didn't do it then and he wouldn't do it now! Not that I am saying either of those two will be as productive as Yzerman or Gretzky (although they are well on their way.) Nor am I comparing them at this point in their careers. No way Zetterberg right now is as important to the Wings as Yzerman was, or Crosby as Gretzky was to the Oilers/Kings/blah blah blah, although the NHL is blowing Crosby every chance they get! (kinda reminds me of the whole Lindros deal in the 90's) But they are the face of their franchises at this moment and they show all indications that they will be as important,I still wouldn't trade Zetterberg for Crosby, Zetterberg plays better D...

...uh, no, I guess they like money! Can't been seen with someone from Hollywood, but cannot be seen without a rich boyfriend!
-
...well, compare the teams he played with. NYI & STL but paled in comparrison to the Wings. They dumped him because they couldn't justify paying him almost $4MM to sit on the bench. He's back in his comfort zone and he is just as good as he was in 1998 (so far.) BTW you can name only a few active goalies with more wins than Ozzie. In all the history of goalies ALL-TIME he ranks as #16. 16 ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL... ...If you ask me the Wings are stealing Ozzie for what they are paying him. Compare his stats and achievments to that of Khabibulin(sp) who would you pay more? Ozzie is a ligit #1 goalie, there is no doubt in my mind that if we had Osggod/Howard we'd still be in the same place we are right now, maybe better... ...now back to Jimmy Howard...

...while I do see & understand your disgust in Neidermayer (we had it happen before, ahem, Barry Sanders, ahem) but more so I believe the "TRADE" of Dustin Penner for Todd Bertuzzi/Mathieu Schneider hurt you more (Man, I wish it were an actual trade that happened, Penner would look great in a Wings uni.)
-
Dude, here's your sign...
-
...Osgood won't be voted by the fans, but I would be willing to bet that if he continues his success this season, he will be picked as an alternate (especially if Babcock is coach for the WC)

Why Are the Red Wings So Good Year After Year?
LeftWinger replied to livediehockey80's topic in General
...I would have to say one of the biggest reason's is 1989! Then when they had trouble getting over the hump, Scotty Bowman. I give Ken Holland very little credit, since his scouts tell him who he should draft. Sure, he makes the ultimate decision, but that would be kinda like George Bush going against Congress and you see where that gets him! Holland should be credited for the trades made though. He is one of the best GM's in the league, but he owes a lot to his scouting and staff, without them he would be average... ...I give the most credit to Jimmy D. He drafted the two most important players to this franchise, Steve Yzerman & Nick Lidstrom (oh and Fedorov, Osgood & Konstantinov helped a little too!, like I said 1989...) -
...in my day, you wouldn't have run, either you would have gotten your ass kicked or fed him a Louisville sandwhich!
-
...give it up, he is alive, that is more important. He would never be what he once was, and he wasn't even that great, sure he had the potential and had one solid season, but if he attempted a come back now, he'd only be taking up a roster spot...
-
...I said it in the "who's jersey gets retired thread" Osgood plays his career out here, which he will, gets over 400 wins, which he should barring injuries, he can be a dark horse to have his jersey retired. Maybe not even a dark horse, especially if he ends up like huntsvegas baby worked out! 2nd in wins overall, no doubt #30 goes up! He needs to keep playing this season, freakin let Dom ride the pine for a while!
-
...of course, imagine a Brian Burke led team whining about a clean hit! Hey Burke, maybe it was just physics?!? I think he cries more than Gretzky! (virtually impossible.) Lets all see another Burke led assault on an opposing team resulting in a near death, career ending event all because his guy cannot take a CLEAN hit! Yo, Burke, the league reviewed the play, they said "CLEAN HIT!" Yo, Burke, just to remind you, the hit on Naslund, CLEAN! Oh yeah, the hit on Moen, CLEAN! The hit on Holmstrom, DIRTY! hit on McAmmond, DIRTY! If I ever see you or Chris Pronger in public, the hit will be DIRTY and prolly in the nads! ...Watch the video's, watch the film, learn the difference, when someone hits you dirty, then whine, if not, SHUT UP...

Zetterberg says he wants to spend his whole career in Detroit
LeftWinger replied to stevkrause's topic in General
...well I hope he is true to his word. Swede's seem to be (more than Russian's that is! (jab at Fedorov!)) No doubt Zetterberg is the NEW face of this franchise. Lids is cap, but Zetts is the new MAN in Detroit. Thank God it didn't take too many years to find the new prodical son after the last one retired!!!! This man will be the next Captain (when Lids retires) and when it comes down to chosing between him and Dats, it'll be so long to Dats! Even though they won't have to do that for a long time!!! I can see Zetts getting a similar deal to Dats, in length as well. ...I hope he does! ...a little observation involving a different sport. The Tigers announced today that Joel Zumaya will be out about half the 08 season due to an injury sustained while moving personal items. Makes me wonder, I am in prolly in the worst shape I can be in, I work at a job doing physical labor. I work at my house as well, moving personal items around (furniture, heavy items) how come these guys seem to get injured more than I do, doing normal things? For pete's sake Zumaya just came back from wrist surgury beause he played Guitar Hero too much! Now he has to have shoulder surgery from moving furniture? I think these players are babied a little too much, or they are just glass barbie dolls... ...now back to your regularly scheduled NHL talk... -
...point: Feds currently plays on one of the worst teams in the league! So those stats mean crap! How the fusk can you compare Hudler :puke: to Fedorov? Fedorov @38 years old is better than ANYONE on the #2, 3 or 4 lines. I'd even put him over Holmstrom & Datsyuk! ...I'll give Hulder :puke: credit to be no better than Stacy Roest or Jason Williams (both of whom had GOOD stats while in Detroit. BECAUSE THEY PLAYED FOR A WINNING FRANCHISE! Hudler :puke: SUCKS!!!!!!)
-
...bottom line, if Forsberg (or Fedorov) were on the team last playoff season, one of them would have scored at least ONE power play goal during the 5 on 3's we had against Anaheim. If that would've happened then we'd be defending Stanley Cup Champs this year...
-
...well I happen to know family of Legace so that would make my decision easy. Also Dan Hinote's sister-in-law in Jenny McCarthy!
-
...you get Fedorov & Sudin and you have three SUPER lines with the grinders as #4...
-
:puke: is what I think of Hudler... Trade him for Fedorov right frick'n now!
-
Which active player will have his jersey retired?
LeftWinger replied to timothy1997's topic in General
...let's see, bottom line, set in stone... Lidstrom - Yes Fedorov - Yes Zetterberg - Yes (if he stays here his whole career, he could very well end up #3 ALL TIME Red Wing scoring) Datsyuk - Never ...here's my pick for a dark horse. If he finishes his career here (which he will) chalks up more than 400 wins (he might) then Chris Osgood deserves his #30 in the rafters... ....uh, why would Chicago be bitter about TRADING Chelios to us? He didn't come here as a UFA, he was TRADED by Chicago for Anders Eriksson and a 1st rounder... ...Lidstrom, Sakic, Modano & Broduer I agree, but Kolzig? No way! -
...neither here nor there... ...if he wants to get in game shape, why not just sign somewhere in the NHL already? ...no biggie, I like the idea someone had in another thread involving Sudin anyhow (less of a diveer and far less of a crybaby.) ...Sudin and Fedorov at the deadline!
-
...how many times do we have to say Zetterberg is not a UFA until 2009? CBA rules state you cannot negotiate until the player is in the final year of his contract, so cannot lock up Z until at least start of 2008-2009 season. But I do agree with ya, as soon as he can, lock him up! IMO he deserves MORE money than Dats...
