If one of Byfield or Stutzle fall to #4, Yzerman be like:
-
What is happening here?
-
Ok, for my protection list: Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Rasmussen, Tmishov (re-signed at 3 years) and one of Svech or Smith (whichever one is more valuable to my team) Cholowski, Lindstrom, Hronek -Goalie (whoever we have signed that would need to be protected.) - peronally I would keep Smith because we have a good amount of skilled players like Svech, Smith has that bottom 6 style we can use (especially if we're able to use a buyout on Abby) Of course if we make any TDL deals that may include players, this could change a bit. I left Dekeyser unprotected but maybe he'll make a nice comeback this season and he'll earn a protect, plus, as of now, we don't have any D men that we maybe sign this year (UFA) that would keep him unprotected or any of the other three. Again, trades and or UFA signings could change this. Maybe we DO sign someone like Krug and he obviously would take one of the protects. I could see Protecting him, Dekeyser and Hronek then, risking one of the others, but then again we can only lose one player, so maybe a forward looks more enticing.

Ok, lets say (one of) these teams are that player and the 1st round pick to us, in your opinion what are we sending back? (just so you know Vancouver traded their 2020 1st round) New Jersey has it. (They have THREE 1st round picks!! yikes!) Also Nashville has the 11th OA pick, not sure they are gonna trade that, but maybe the 2021 1st round. So, lets say then, since STL is the only one with a 2020 1st round pick that they'd be willing to trade, what would the return be for Steen and the 1st? Also, not that it couldn't be waived, but Steen has a NTC. I wonder if Dallas would be willing to move Ben Bishop? He has a NMC that would have to be waived, but maybe his relationship with Yzerman would entice him to do so? I know he has 3 more years after this one left on his contract, but that could be good for us. Taking on 100% of his salary, plus the fact that it's not just a 1 year rental, we could probably easily get Dallas' 2020 1st round pick. Plus he would be a good guy to have with Bernier next season, then who knows beyond that. Also,he could be the goalie we have to protect because right now, they only G we have that will be under contract in 2021 (for the expansion draft) that would need protection is Fulcher. Everyone else becomes a UFA in 2021. It might be better than signing a UFA (big money) G. Bishop is at $4.9M for the next 3 years. Right now Dallas is sitting in the 24 spot in the draft, but if they lose in the 1st round, it could move in to the teens. The only thing is they do have $19M in cap space next season. They do have some valuable RFA's they need to re-sign, plus Janmark is a UFA. We could hope maybe they want to get into the UFA sweepstakes this year and want to clear space. Anyhow, that being said, in additition to the above idea's from our esteemed colleague KRS, I wonder what the return would be if Dallas wanted to play? Steen + 1st for? Bishop + 1st for?

So... which high dollar players PLUS the teams 1st round pick do we take on this off season?
-
also on an even better note, since Toronto didn't get the #1, and they are sitting in the 13th spot, the have to surrender their pick to Carolina in the Marleau deal. The condition was if they get a top 10 pick they can opt to give them the 2021 pick. and just to confirm this...
-
Well at least the Rangers were a lottery team to begin with! I guess that'll save some face for the NHL. But NYR are looking pretty good!
-
New York Rangers win Lafreniere
-
Go to the expansion draft simulator on capfriendly. You will see other with NMC on other teams automatically "checked" Frans Nielsen is not automatically checked. He will not have to be protected.
-
Nielsen is no longer on a NMC. He is on a M-NTC. He does not need to be protected.
-
MLB is close to shutting down, I think it may be wise for the NHL to cancel the season.
-
as much as I hate the fact that we, amongst others, got screwed out of the #1 pick, ask yourself, how many Stanley Cups have we won with #1 picks?
-
as much as I don't want it to happen, I just can't help but thinking it'll go Laf, Byfield, Stutzle, us...all we need is for ONE team to take a D-man. We know who is #1, I am not sure if Ottawa will take a D man at 3 because they could get a good one at 5, unless they are so high on Drysdale that they take him at 3 to prevent Detroit from taking him. Unless LA takes him at 2...I wonder what their needs are? Maybe they are need of an NHL quality D-man! I would love to see Stutzle or Byfield drop to 4, maybe if LA takes Byfield and Ottawa takes Stutzle at #3, maybe they still want to prevent Detroit from taking Drysdale and offers a swap the 4 for 5 plus an asset or the 33rd? If I am Yzerman (which I am not! ) I would take that trade and draft one of the other forwards at 5. Of course can't let Ottawa know that is what we want, we have to make them think we want the D-man! ...of course, if they don't want the D-man in the 1st round, then there goes this whole idea! Maybe LA or Ottawa want the Russian goalie? Scenario back on!
-
Byfield is falling to 4.
-
Just say NO to Howard...we have a ton of cash and can get a better quality UFA goalie.
-
Yes, I would be pretty upset if he drafted Askarov with our #4. Too many NHL caliber skaters to choose from. I am sticking with Byfield dropping! Aim high! If he does drop, then losing the #1 and having to pick 4th won't hurt so bad....except when we find out who gets the #1...

If Lafreniere pulls an Eric Lindros on the Wings
LeftWinger replied to Scott R Lucidi's topic in General
Maybe Lafrienere pulls a Lindros NOW with whichever team drafts him!?! Maybe he doesn't want to play in Florida or The Isles or Arizona or Edmonton? Maybe he wants to go somewhere where HE is the star, he gets to be captain, etc... I doubt it happens, but it would be interesting! -
so the NHL has said that all the teams playing in the 5 game play-in ARE considered post-season playing teams, playoff teams...so ya, the NHL awarded a playoff team the #1 pick. Sorry about the dead-horse beating, but if a team qualifies for the post-season, then they should not be in the lottery...sorry, won't mention it anymore...until Toronto or Pittsburgh or Edmonton get the #1. on the #4, I hope Yzerman does not take the goalie. As was said, we can throw a ton of money a a UFA G, There is always the 2nd round for a G. There is the possibility Byfield falls. Look at Zadina. We know the #1 pick, but maybe LA wants Stuztle or a D, and then same goes for Ottawa, if LA takes D then OTT could take Stutzle. I highly doubt they all stick to the consensus order of Lafrienere, Byfield, Stutzle, but then again that could happen too... I am just so sickened by the top pick result, I almost cannot even stomach talking about it. It's not even that we fell to 4th, it's the winner...ugh, ok, this time I'll stop for real. Sorry!
-
We have THREE 2nd round picks. Plus the first AND third picks in the 3rd round. Pretty much like having five 2nds! I think this is where Yzerman is gonna hit some grand slams! #32, #54, #58, #63, #65.
-
I guess I can see what you are saying, but at one point we have to get a UFA or 2 and jump start a build. If we get a compliance buyout, we will be losing one of Abby or Nielsen, also you say Smith is pushing for a spot, but he had a few auditions last season and didn't show that he is 100% ready for the NHL. Plus, is he just a 4th liner? It seems that there are some players that Yzerman likes in Detroit more. I think that adding a couple of players the caliber of the two I mentioned would help us out, now and later. They are 26 and 27 respectively and if they signed a 2-3 year deal, with no NTC they could be dealt at anytime. But if they worked out, especially a third line with Timashov like I showed, it could be a real good thing! Especially if they are only gonna get $4M like you are saying. For three years, that's a real good deal. I'd like to see it. I like Smith, but he didn't impress me enough to guarantee him a spot. I'd much rather upgrade the offense since we do have a lot of cap space. We have enough to give Bert and Mantha nice big raises, re-sign some other RFA's and even off Gagner another contract. We could even throw some money at a top rated D. We have enough cap to overpay for the talent. I am probably off on their worth, but again, I was just giving them enough to outbid other teams. Plus I wasn't looking to sign any grand slam players like Hall, who will get top dollar from someone. The two Russian's are a nice middle of the road signing that upgrades our team. Anyhow, I can see Yzerman doing what you said and just staying the course, but I would love to see him make some signings. Besides, look at last summer, he did make a couple of middle of the road signings to solidify the team, even though they didn't make us much better.
-
Which one? I'd gladly give either one $4M a year to come here. I just figured it may cost more because we'd have to convince them to come here...and we do have the cap to overpay someone to choose us, so hopefully since Yzerman got screwed at the lottery, he has some UFA tricks up his sleeve with so much cap room. Not sure what those two would get as UFA, but adding them makes us a better scoring team, IMO. It'd be nice to acquire players via UFA and get this team back near 100 points and jam it in the noses of the NHL! A couple of scoring forwards, and good D or 2 addition (Seider being one of them) along with a very good G tandem and we're there. Screw Uncle Gary and his "lottery!" I'll develop who we have, draft a high scoring forward at #4, knock the 2nd round out of the park and find me 2-3 higher end UFA's and put this franchise right back in the thick of it all!

Ok! Let's get the trade going! Svech for Suzuki! reunite the Svech Bros. and we get a nice center who has no doubt played on a unit with Perfetti.
