Statistically, the 52 games he played with The Detroit Red Wings was the best PPG he has had as a NHL player. Very good signing.

In alot of my arm-chair GM setups I had Fabbri at $3.75M, so this is nice. I am not so sure that Bert gets over $4M. 3 @ $3.75M sounds good. Mantha between $5.75M and $6M looks nice for another 3 years. Of course the year Larkin signed his $6.1M he averaged .76PPG, again Mantha was at .88 last season. So he may garner a bit more than Larkin. $6.5M would be tops in my book. Honestly, if he wants to be a tough negotiator, then qualify him, offer him the $5.75M and let him go to arbitration with his request. If he wants more than $6.5M, then I would just as well deal him to another team. Maybe Holland will pay him. They are always throwing Nurse's name around in trades, so I'll send them Mantha and Hirose for Nurse and their 1st. anyhow, this is not the off season thread, so I will go back there if I have anything else to add not pertaining to Fabbri.

I am not unhappy with this. He did average .6 PPG, Bert was slightly higher and Mantha was about .88. We all knew Mantha was going to cost us at least $5.5M, I can see Bert getting about $3.25M - $3.5M. I'd be ok with Mantha around $6M. With Fabbri's contract we still have $33M available PLUS Z's LTIR if needed. We have to get these guys signed and make them happy (enough) to understand that they are part of this core. Our other RFA's will not cost anywhere near this amount. We will be ok. Yzerman will still have room to acquire a contract if he wants to, or go in on a UFA if he'd like, or more than one of each!

Here is TSN/Button's top 10. Guys, Byfield is falling to us. If Laf and Stutle go 1 and 2, Ottawa probably wanting a top 10 talent on F and D, sensing that Detroit has many holes on D, they take Drysdale at 3, leaving Byfield to us, then at 5 they take BPA at the forward position.
-
I think Yzerman should package those two together for a top 10 pick. I was excited when Zadina dropped, but after his bold statements about filling their nets, then he failed to even fill AHL nets, I have my doubts. Trade these two, get Askarov with the pick...or take FWD at 4, D with the pick from these two, G with the Dallas pick (I mentioned above.)
-
The Rangers are taking Drysdale 1st OA.
-
Stepan is to acquire a draft pick along with him. All four could possibly be TDL material for a cup team looking for depth.

Honestly, we really don't need to use any buyouts or Z's LTIR if we did something like this. The $8.8M in cap space is USING Z's LTIR, so that just means we could sign up Mantha, Betuzzi, Fabbri or Timashov for a few dollars more if we had to. Plus we'd have the TWO 1st's and THREE 2nd's again. Dunno, just throwing some stuff out there to get picks and make our team a little better for next season. ...I know there are other RFA's that remain unsigned (Bowey, Hirose, Ehn, Erne and Perlini) but I would just qualify them and see if they can make the team. If not, they get waived to GR or if someone scoops them up.

Washington 2nd is #54. Our two 3rd's are #63 and #65, that is mostly why I said a 2nd because it may look a little better on paper. But if they's take one of the 3rd's, that's cool too. We could always grab a 2nd from Arizona as compensation for taking on Derek Stepan's contract. Then we could just throw then a 5th or 6th. to DET : Derek Stepan (no salary retained) 2020 2nd round pick (#49) to ARZ : 5th round pick (#125) plus cap space to attempt to sign Hall or another UFA to DET : Ben Bishop (no salary retained) 2020 1st round pick (#24 (for now)) to DAL : 2020 2nd round pick (Washington #54) Turgeon plus cap space to "Go For It!" ...even taking on the $11M from these two still gives us plenty of money to re-sign our RFA's, with Z's LTIR and if we can compliance buyout a player...of course if they allow a compliance buyout, then that could stop these teams from trading their picks!

going back to my idea of Detroit acquiring Ben Bishop. Watching these playoffs thus far, it looks like Khudobin has been their guy. They do have $13M in cap space next season, but if they convinced Bishop to waive his NMC to come play for Yzerman for the next three years, that would give them roughly $20M in space to upgrade their team. They could throw HUGE money at Taylor Hall or Torey Krug if they wanted to...or anyone else they may be interested in. to DET : Ben Bishop (no salary retained,) 2020 1st round pick to DAL : 2020 2nd round pick (Washington) maybe a middling prospect. (Hirose or Turgeon maybe) again, this would solidify our G position for next year and a bit beyond until we can develop one. Plus, as I eluded to earlier, right now we don't have a G in the system that will require protection from Seattle except Fulcher. Per rules a G has to be protected, Bishop could be that G. I mean if we go with someone else for a year, then we have to protect Fulcher because of the rules, fine, but Bishop would be an upgrade to our G, cost far less than trying to sign Markstrom, Holtby or Lehner. We'd have a pretty good duo of Bishop and Bernier for a year. Ton's better than having Howard last season... ok, just noticed that Jake Oettinger is their back up today...is Bishop injured, or has he opted out?

At least it wasn't one of the teams we all thought it would be. I'd be ok with The Rangers taking over that division and shoving mud in Pittsburghs face.
-
Honestly, I think Rossi or Perfetti will be a nice pick. But all we need is for ONE team ahead of us to take a D, and we'd have a shot at Byfield or Stutzle. Then again, maybe Yzerman likes Rossi or Perfetti better than the others...
-
If one of Byfield or Stutzle fall to #4, Yzerman be like:

What is happening here?

Ok, for my protection list: Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Rasmussen, Tmishov (re-signed at 3 years) and one of Svech or Smith (whichever one is more valuable to my team) Cholowski, Lindstrom, Hronek -Goalie (whoever we have signed that would need to be protected.) - peronally I would keep Smith because we have a good amount of skilled players like Svech, Smith has that bottom 6 style we can use (especially if we're able to use a buyout on Abby) Of course if we make any TDL deals that may include players, this could change a bit. I left Dekeyser unprotected but maybe he'll make a nice comeback this season and he'll earn a protect, plus, as of now, we don't have any D men that we maybe sign this year (UFA) that would keep him unprotected or any of the other three. Again, trades and or UFA signings could change this. Maybe we DO sign someone like Krug and he obviously would take one of the protects. I could see Protecting him, Dekeyser and Hronek then, risking one of the others, but then again we can only lose one player, so maybe a forward looks more enticing.

Ok, lets say (one of) these teams are that player and the 1st round pick to us, in your opinion what are we sending back? (just so you know Vancouver traded their 2020 1st round) New Jersey has it. (They have THREE 1st round picks!! yikes!) Also Nashville has the 11th OA pick, not sure they are gonna trade that, but maybe the 2021 1st round. So, lets say then, since STL is the only one with a 2020 1st round pick that they'd be willing to trade, what would the return be for Steen and the 1st? Also, not that it couldn't be waived, but Steen has a NTC. I wonder if Dallas would be willing to move Ben Bishop? He has a NMC that would have to be waived, but maybe his relationship with Yzerman would entice him to do so? I know he has 3 more years after this one left on his contract, but that could be good for us. Taking on 100% of his salary, plus the fact that it's not just a 1 year rental, we could probably easily get Dallas' 2020 1st round pick. Plus he would be a good guy to have with Bernier next season, then who knows beyond that. Also,he could be the goalie we have to protect because right now, they only G we have that will be under contract in 2021 (for the expansion draft) that would need protection is Fulcher. Everyone else becomes a UFA in 2021. It might be better than signing a UFA (big money) G. Bishop is at $4.9M for the next 3 years. Right now Dallas is sitting in the 24 spot in the draft, but if they lose in the 1st round, it could move in to the teens. The only thing is they do have $19M in cap space next season. They do have some valuable RFA's they need to re-sign, plus Janmark is a UFA. We could hope maybe they want to get into the UFA sweepstakes this year and want to clear space. Anyhow, that being said, in additition to the above idea's from our esteemed colleague KRS, I wonder what the return would be if Dallas wanted to play? Steen + 1st for? Bishop + 1st for?
-
So... which high dollar players PLUS the teams 1st round pick do we take on this off season?
-
also on an even better note, since Toronto didn't get the #1, and they are sitting in the 13th spot, the have to surrender their pick to Carolina in the Marleau deal. The condition was if they get a top 10 pick they can opt to give them the 2021 pick. and just to confirm this...
-
Well at least the Rangers were a lottery team to begin with! I guess that'll save some face for the NHL. But NYR are looking pretty good!

New York Rangers win Lafreniere
-
Go to the expansion draft simulator on capfriendly. You will see other with NMC on other teams automatically "checked" Frans Nielsen is not automatically checked. He will not have to be protected.
-
Nielsen is no longer on a NMC. He is on a M-NTC. He does not need to be protected.
-
MLB is close to shutting down, I think it may be wise for the NHL to cancel the season.
