WTF!?!?! Can we do something about this crap?
-
I hope these two guys don't skate under Yzerman's radar! We need some good writers for The Wings nowadays!
-
It looks like along with the bottom 7, any 8 of the below teams will all have a shot at the top 3 picks. I call it BS and hope that the team(s) that deserve it most get the players. NO WAY does Pit deserve a shot at #1. I know they traded the their 1st but it is non-playoff protected and is they lose the play in round, they have the option to send the 2021 pick instead... BS!

Also, here is the official Brome singing and Stevie also signed 6'5 goalie from the 2019 6th round Victor Brattstrom.

Come on Lottery! (just sayin)
-
since the PA agreed to the 24 team playoff, then it should be a 7 team lottery and that is it. I don't care if team 7 wins the lottery and we fall to 4 if that's how they want to do it, although I do think the format should still remain that gives Detroit and Ottawa no lower than 2 and 4. People like to complain about Detroit "tanking" but look at teams 6 and 7...Buffalo? New Jersey? There is no more than can be said about those two teams. But even if they went with the same rules for the 7 teams, so be it, just do NOT include any of the 8 teams that would've NOT been in the playoffs in a normal season. Are you gonna reward Montreal with the #1 pick overall if they make it past the first round? What if they do eliminate a top seed in the 1st, does that seed now get a lottery chance because they were eliminated in the 1st? Do you hold the draft now with the same 15 teams, Columbus wins they lottery, then miraculously goes on a run in the playoffs and wins a Cup or damn close? How fair is that for the 7 teams that aren't getting a playoff chance? If that's the case, then lets hold the draft with normal rules, normal odds, 15 teams, then after that have a 31 team playoff, best of 3 1st round? Can't have your goose, cook it and eat it too. It's either playoffs or lottery. You CANNOT win a shot at The Cup AND get rewarded with Lafreniere or even a top 7 pick unless you've traded for it. Isn't it good enough that Montreal gets a shot in the playoffs and STILL could get a #8 overall? That will be a pretty damn good player for your efforts AND the playoffs!

I still maintain if they go with a 7 team lottery, it is unfair for a team to fall 3 spots. IMO The most a team can fall is 1 and the most a team can climb is 4. So again, that would put Detroit at #1 if teams 6 or 7 get picked. There is no other way to do it. Ottawa can only fall to 3 & 4, Detroit can only fall to 2. ANY team 1-5 can win. This is when Bettman should tell them to shove it. I am very interested in seeing a 24 team playoff though! Would it still be 4 rounds? Would it take more than 16 wins for The Cup? I wonder how that would work, would certain teams get a bye in the first Round Robin. 24 teams - 12 teams - 6 - 3?
-
now with the rumor of a 24 team playoff, that leaves 7 teams in the draft lottery. Only two more, I am sure there will still be rule changes about how many spots you can drop or jump. With only 7 teams, how fair is it that you still may be able to drop 3 spots? I like our odds, but it still gives perennial tankers like New Jersey and Buffalo a shot at #1 yet AGAIN! They should make sure that a team cannot move up more than 4. That means NJ and Buffalo won't get a shot at #1, but NJ could get #2, and Buffalo could get #3, which should be ok with them. Teams cannot drop more than 2 would be a good thing as well. that way Detroit and Ottawa won't be getting screwed. Even if NJ jumped to 2 and we fell to 3, I think all parties should be ok with that.

It wouldn't be the first time the NHL tilted the balls towards a specific team! Does anyone think it was just a coincidence that in 2005 Mario Lemieux was threatening to re-locate the Penguins, just so happened to be letting a young man stay at his home, then proceeds to win the lottery enabling him to draft said young man, Sidney Crosby? That stunk of a fix, and so who freaking cares if Detroit and or Ottawa, arguable the two worst teams in the league the last 3-5 years get a little help in their rebuild? Besides, when Detroit gets 2 compliance buyouts and gets rid of Abby's and Nielsen's contract's, and add to that the availability of Z's LTIR, Yzerman could very well throw the wallet at Hall, Krug and Holtby. Even if the cap fell a bit, he'll have about $50M in space (after Abby, Nielsen and Z) to get all three, PLUS re-sign the important RFA's to nice deals for both sides! Are the NHL Execs gonna ***** about Yzerman spending up to his cap and becoming 1000% better that way? Honestly, if we don't get Lafreniere, I really don't think we need another center. We have Larkin, Veleno and Rasmussen to be our top 3 C's, I guess we could draft one and make someone a winger, but I'd like to see our D bolstered. Which is why most of us were hoping that we went D instead of Holland drafting Zadina. But even now, if Yzerman drafted Drysdale, put him in the mix with Hronek, Seider and the possibility of Krug or similar? I think the other NHL teams just better watch out for Detroit no matter what happens this draft. Sooner than they think Detroit will be knocking on Lord Stanley's door and 30 other GM's will be shaking their heads wondering how it happened so fast, when they all conspired to keep Detroit from drafting a franchise LW back in 2020. It's funny how things work out in the draft, back in 1983, Detroit wanted LaFontaine SOOOOO bad, they were begging The Isles not to take him, so they "settled" for their next choice and we all know how that worked out. If we don't get Lafreniere, so be it, there is a great chance someone like Stutzle, Rossi or Drysdale just may end up being the better pick when it's all over 20 years from now. I'm just tired of Detroit getting worked over in the draft lottery. It's already bad enough that in a normal lottery our chances of falling to 4 are higher than retaining the #1 and that makes zero sense.

so it seems the NHL is re-thinking the process of the lottery because some executives say Detroit and Ottawa got too much privilege. Honestly, unless you wait until the playoffs are established, there is no other way of doing it. Columbus is 2 points out of a playoff spot, are you going to award them a lottery pick, possibly #1, then they could make the playoffs and go deep? If you don't finish the season and get the total amount of points, how fair is it to still have Detroit (and others) still drop up to 3 spots? How fair is it that New Jersey just might win a 3rd top pick in the last 4 years? How fair is it that Chicago may get it after just being 4 years out from winning their 3rd Cup in 6 years? Pittsburgh is only 5 points ahead of Columbus, so if they happened to falter and miss, and they get the 1st overall (their traded pick is protected) how fair is that? They are 2 years out of winning back to back Cups. The whole lottery is flawed there is no way an 80-90 point team (which Columbus may have after the season) should be getting a 1st overall pick while teams in the bottom 5 get screwed. https://twitter.com/TSN1200/status/1258133902763442179?s=20

we haven't won a Cup since this thread...maybe the ladies are the good luck charm? Ok, ladies, let's get the "alternative" going for the draft lottery!
-
apparently whatever I wrote to derail this thing was deleted! Love seeing some of the old names and old members! I hope they are all doing great! This one made me wonder.....
-
If we're talking trades, I would've brought back a nice return in the first 10 years of my LGW career. Other teams (forums) love them some grit and sandpaper! But now, I am just a shadow of my former "hated" self! . I will say for the record though, the 2nd from top was a mistaken identity banning! I was quickly re-instated!

I am officially going to say, IF/WHEN this draft lottery NEW rules go into effect, and we get a 57% chance at #1, and no lower than 2, Uncle Gary is officially my Uncle Gary! I still won't forgive him for 2009 (rescinding the 1 game suspension to Malkin which would've most likely given us a 3-0 series lead) but like most of our strange uncles, I can move forward with him! In the #2 scenario, I certainly hope Yzerman drafts Byfield. But if he is in love with Rossi, Stutzle or Drysdale, I hope he trades down to #3 or #4. I ran the simulator about 50 times, and Ottawa only leaped over us 4 times! With that idiot talking crap all the time (Wyshynski) I would love for NJ to get the #1 only to give it right to us!
-
I voted for myself because of two reasons: 1. I am off work for 4 months and could use some buyout cash! 2. I am off work for 4 months and when August 1 hits, I really don't want to go back! So I could use the buyout cash!
-
I'd take that trade for sure!

I love all of this!!!

Elliotte Friedman: Swedish UFA Forward Mathias Brome to Sign with Wings
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
This is nice that he chose us over a better team though! Maybe Z and Lids have more influence than the Sedin's do! Let's hope he's not the next Kaski. For which I mean that he never gets a chance here and then gets dealt. -
What makes me sick is that Detroit will fall and a team is 5% chance will get the #1 before Detroit stays there. Like this example, I ran it once and Detroit fell to 4, and Winnipeg (2.5% chance) got the #1. Ran it 3 times, Ottawa won the 2nd time, but on the 3rd time, again Detroit fell to 4 and Winnipeg jumped 11 again to #1! How does that happen 2 out of 3 times with only a 2.5% chance of winning? ...as a matter of fact, on the 4th run, the exact same thing happened, then on the 5th run, Detroit fell to 4 again and Rangers jumped 12 spots to #1. I get it, that the lottery is just that, a game of chance, but how do teams with %18 change fall more often and teams with 2% chance win it 4 times before the 18% team even stays? If the real lottery is run similarly, this is why it is total BS! 27 times before Detroit stayed in the #1 spot, during that time MANY team won the lottery MULTIPLE TIMES, even Florida got it twice jumping 13 spots! Total garbage!

compliance buyout Abby and Neilsen. Draft Lafreniere. Sign Hall, Krug and Holtby. Re-sgn Gagner, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Timashov. Yzerplan in full effect!
-
....as long as we could sign him BEFORE the draft lottery so he can bring his #1 overall "luck" with him!! honestly, I know he said he just wants some security, but would 7 years here get us (or him) a legit shot at the Cup? He did play junior in Windsor, so he may have some connections around the area, but as we've learned over the past few years, that doesn't mean crap anymore. Plus, he's already been on TWO rebuilding teams, plus Arizona didn't fare too well,so would he really want to go to another rebuild? One that is further behind than New Jersey is/was? Now if we are able to get Lafreniere, that might change our look to many UFA's, but until we have that cornerstone, franchise-type player, I don't think we'll be seeing many stars come here. But, if indeed he is just looking for a team with cap space and term, you never know what will happen. I'd give him max salary for 7 years if it meant attracting possible others... just a little quarantine side note, I start an expansion team in NHL20 and was able to draft Lafreniere, and with my other selections via the expansion draft/regular draft (and UFA's) over the past 6 season's, my top line consists of Lafreniere - Nick Suzuki (expansion draft) - Nicolaj Ehlers (UFA) and they are unstoppable. I've also acquired his brother Ryan from the Canes, he is pretty good as well! The things we do while we are stuck at home. BTW, the ONLY current Red Wing I have is Robby Fabbri. He is the captain and leads the team in scoring most years. So if I am going by NHL20, I say Yzerman should attempt to get Suzuki and Ehlers, and keep, above all, Fabbri. My D has Trouba and Byrum as the top unit. ...anyhow back to real NHL, if Hall would turn this team into a playoff team, I'm ok with giving him a contract.
-
I'm with ya Mackel, I wanted a D-Man (Bouchard) but most of believed the hype draft day. I do wish we had drafted Hughes, but what do we do now? I bet we could not trade Zadina for either Hughes nor Bouchard. I wonder if we could get Dobson or Boqvuist? (again, nobody say Hague! LOL! (I still like him as a player though!))
-
maybe Holland would be interested in Zadina. He loved the pick enough to pass on need. We aren't going to get a Quinn Hughes-type player back in return, but maybe a nice prospect for prospect swap. Or just see who we draft this season, and let Zadina attempt to become a "fill their nets" player. Maybe if we are able to get LaFreniere, it will overshadow Zadina if he fails to live up to his "best scorer in the draft" hype. Worst case scenario, he becomes a middle 6 winger, best case, he is on RW with Larkin and LaFreniere. (or if another C becomes our #1C)
