Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"

I bet he's looking for a situation similar to what Roy has in Colorado. Head coach with the additional position of VP or something else with more autonomy. -

People seem to think that by adding talent to the top, everyone just bumps down the depth chart and their role changes. Nope. This isn't a video game. Glendening, Andersson and Miller are doing a great job in their checking/shutdown role through the first few games. So much so that they've earned more playing time. They've had some of the toughest matchups and have shut down the opposition from scoring. Limiting goals is just as important as scoring them. Look to the top-9 guys if you have issues with the amount of goals being scored.

Looking forward to Franzen coming back. It'll help our offense. Don't really understand a lot of the thoughts in this thread... PK/GA is near top of the league and PP/GF is near bottom = trade/waive/sit the 4th line penalty killers! Yeah ok....

If you're going to sign every post can you just make it part of your signature so people have a choice to view it? Thanks.

How about Adam Larsson? Healthy scratch to start the season. Former #4 overall pick and just 21. RH defenseman with some size. And yeah he's a Swede...

While watching the game last night I was upset with the non-call on Getzlaf. However watching it today with a clear mind and from a few different angles it was the right (non)call. He went down on his own. The stick barely touched him. It's the NHL. Be strong on your skates... -

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie · 2h1 hour ago This just in: Bobby Clarke is one of the refs for tonight's Flyers-B's opener in Boston. Reply0 replies Retweet11 retweets11 Favorite20 favorites20 More Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie · 2h1 hour ago Re Chris Pronger & NHL Dep't Player Safety: This is not difficult. He is a Flyers' employee. He is on Flyers' roster. End of discussion. -
If Kindl goes anywhere, my guess is its to either Nashville, Dallas or Winnipeg.

Well ya I agree to an extent. Much like Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't necessarily my "ideal" stars. I mean... I'd prefer them to be a few inches bigger and a few pounds heavier and a little more aggressive but since they're not I'm not going to discredit their other abilities. Much like I'm not going to discredit Millers.

So I was going through a bunch of my Dad's old things and stumbled upon one of his NHL contracts from the Red Wings lying in between the pages of an old program. I've never seen an NHL contract before (let alone from the 70s) and thought it was interesting and that I would share for others interested as well. The salary and bonuses give an interesting perspective in comparison to today. The average salary (according to the HHOF) in 1970 was $18,000.

This is giving me flashbacks of the Tootoo trade rumours...
-
Frank.... you started the thread quoting a player complaining about how the role he and others fill for teams (enforcer/agitator) is being diminished. I'm not sure how you're surprised that would turn into a discussion about exactly that. I'm not sure what you mean by this...
-
TSN just posted a radio segment discussing the diminishing role of the enforcer. They point to analytics and then fail to reasonably connect the two in any way.
-
But that's kind of exactly what it's about. They kill penalties and absorb some tough minutes so Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't have to. While guys like Orr and to a lesser extent Tootoo would be a liability in those circumstances.
-
And when injuries hit? You need multiple guys to fill each role and depth. If anyone should know this by know, it's Wings fans.
-
It's more that Miller can actually serve a purpose. ie. kill penalties Before you say "anyone can kill penalties". Orr and Tootoo sure can't...

He's out of touch. How about this quote from his twitter... I had a good laugh that he actually thought he's good enough to crack a lineup for 82 games. lol
