Actually they've been rebuilding on the fly while maintaining playoff contention. How this is can be viewed as a negative thing is beyond me... Enough of this "tank vs all in" mentality.

This is what I've been thinking about for the past couple months. If we can stay afloat and get healthy and come together at the right time then we will be very dangerous. It's the staying afloat in the meantime that worries me....

I love trade deadline time. Whether we make a move or not it's exciting to see all the change throughout the league and there's always lots to discuss.

It seems every year we have a new young player who looks good in limited action and is deemed "untouchable" by fans. Then the next year comes, he plays more minutes and gets exposed a bit more or injured and doesn't explode into the "future" player he was predicted as and everyone moves onto the next flavour of the week. It has recently happened with Helm, then Smith, then Nyquist, then Tatar, and now Jurco and Sheahan and I'm sure it will continue on with Pulkkinen, Jankrok and Mantha. It's like clockwork every year... Bottom-line everyone's available for the right price and maybe we all(myself included) have a bad habit of over-valuing our young guys.

It's not uncommon a few days away from the deadline with a player they know they are trading. Why risk injury?

Helm and Franzen are probably the two biggest "x-factors" on our team and are crucial to our success. Weiss hasn't played in 3 months = 0 value in a deadline trade. Not that we would trade him anyways. In regards to Z's LTIR it's retroactive anyways so unless we need to exceed the cap it's not necessary.

He's been linked to us in the past but I don't see him coming here at this deadline. Nor do I see Phoenix making any kind of "selling trade". They're right in the thick of the playoff race.

It makes zero sense in my mind. People just like to link any soft/small European to Detroit. Only in Detroit is Franzen a floater and Stewart a highly coveted power forward...

We have some GREAT defence prospects coming in the next few years so why give up assets for an unproven financial burden?

Nashville doesn't need defensive forwards, defensemen or a goalie prospect. They need offensive forwards. There is no way Nashville moves Weber without getting young high-potential offensive forwards in return. I'm talking roster guys. Not futures.

True but at the same time we can't act like every FA wants to come here. We're not that team every wants to come to anymore. We used to be 1 of like 6 attractive destinations. There's now around 20 and every team is spending more and more money because the structure of the league has changed. We couldn't get the 1-2 first tier guys so we had to pick from the leftovers and went with familiar guys and still managed to snag Alfie and Weiss (who believe it or not were 2 of the best FAs last year)

I agree but I believe the shift in philosophy post-cap is responsible for this and Wings fans just really struggle with this because we are so used to elite teams and acquiring top players. I would say get used to this style of low-risk management because it's best for long-term sustainability and it's not changing. Not saying we'll never make a big move but they will be very few and far between. At least till the cap gets much higher. Regardless with the way profit-sharing works I wouldn't expect a return of the old days anytime.

That's what stands out the most to me. He convinces nearly every core player to buy in and take a discount. That's not to be understated. I don't know. I think it's convenient for fans to have one guy to direct hate and blame when things don't go our way when we know full well its a committee up there making decisions.

I don't really understand how people still get upset/surprised with Babcock's lines. He has done this kind of stuff for years. Yesterday lines started with Bert on line 1 and Nyquist on line 4 yet guess who played more? Nyquist. Who played in more key situations? Nyquist. Things are not always as they seem...

It's obvious what your point was and that you were not analyzing the trade itself or some baseball GMs career. He must be having a really bad day. lol No doubt Holland has this problem at times as he seems to get a little too connected to guys once they get on the Wings roster. However it's also important to always keep in mind the direction and state of the franchise as well. I don't envy a GM's job. Ok I do, but I don't pretend it's as easy as people think.
