Doesn't sound like the PA is too thrilled with the NHL's offer. Bob McKenzie/TSN has a story up with snippets of Fehr's letter to the PA that breaks down the proposal... Read the whole story for more. Offers some interesting insights into the PA's mindset.

Bettman said compressed schedule, by each team playing an extra game every 5 weeks. Though, as some have already pointed out, that might not add up mathematically. Math hard!!

no more for teams using the AHL to cover up their mistakes Good. Now they should look at doing the same thing with overseas loans, too. Imagine Chicago being unable to bury Huet in Switzerland in '10-11... No way they would have made the playoffs if they still had to count his salary towards the cap.

By the way. Everyone who was up in arms about the Focus Group news yesterday? The reactions of "Sign it" and "Good news" (myself included) are doing exactly what the league wanted. The PR war does matter. The owners scored a huge victory in that war today.

John Shannon of Sportsnet had a few more details. (I got this from Puck Daddy's summary, for the record). IMO, each of these plans are reasonable. MUCH more so than the original proposal from the league, at least...

I wonder how much this focus group that we're hearing about is influencing the process... People may say that the PR war is inconsequential, but getting the kind of feedback that a quality focus group gives certainly can cause a side to move more than they normally would. IMO, we're seeing signs of that with today's proposal.

That is nothing but good news. To me, that sounds like they're backing off their asinine requirements on ELC's and prevention of salary arbitration. Fehr has called a conference call with the NHLPA's Negotiating Committee and the Executive Committee for 5PM ET.

Per Dreger... We might actually have a season, if the NHL has moved to 50/50. I'd be willing to bet, however, that they didn't do anything to address entry level contract length, arbitration, and other things that I'm sure the PA sees as toxic...

Dreger's reporting that CBA talks will resume tomorrow in Toronto. No word yet on what the topics of discussion will be, but I'm betting it's not "Core Economic Issues". My guess? Such inconsequential topics as whether the PA should force all players to wear solid white skate laces, or if Ovechkin's yellow laces will be allowable.
  15. If anyone happens to be going to this game, the Red Wings are giving out prizes nearby before the game... https://twitter.com/...798821101748224 ...if anyone happens to go, and just so happens to get an "I Got Kronwalled At The Joe" T shirt (XL), they would have a mod who seriously owes them a favor... ...just sayin'

Our friend @HockeyyInsiderr lists anti-lockout teams...

It's well known that Jeremy Jacobs is solidly on Bettman's side, so that would mean he would only need 7 more to guarantee he has the final word. Although the teams listed by "HockeyyDerpp" (as I've seen him called) might be big market powerful teams, they still would need a practically impossible majority to overrule Bettman. Lest we also forget, all 30 owners voted in favor of a lockout...

    What Are You Playing?

It's interesting to see how many similarities Bioware put into KOTOR and Mass Effect. One example I can think of is a loading screen I saw last night in KOTOR said something to the effect of "Due to the dangers of exploring new hyperspace routes, most of the galaxy remains unexplored", exactly like they said in the ME series.
  22. I think Ken Kal said it best (from Khan/Mlive, emphasis mine)... Years ago, I read a story about a recent veteran who had to have an arm amputated. He ended up being contacted by Budd who gave him all kinds of advice, on how to do day-to-day things like buttoning shirts/sleeves, ironing, etc, as well as all kinds of humorous outlooks on his new way of life. It was very a touching read, and I wish I could find it again.

    Hasek retires........probably

Had there not been a lockout, who knows, he might have been signed to a team on a tryout basis, or for PR reasons. Hats off (again, for the third time) to a terrific career, Dom!
  24. Incredibly sad news. Showing up on Twitter too... From WXYT... In case anyone wanted to read up a little about Budd's life, here's his page on Wikipedia.

As long as they're meeting, there's reason to be hopeful. But Zetterberg heading to Europe is an ominous sign. At the beginning of the lockout, I was confident that we would have hockey beginning around mid-to-late November. But the longer it drags on, and the more and more reports I see about both sides truly digging in, it makes me wonder if we're going to have another lost season on our hands...
