Round 2 is officially underway. The updated bracket is as follows... It's easy to see that the voting method (Facebook, Twitter), which is designed to impact younger members of the Red Wings' fanbase, is taking its toll on the members of the previous Red Wings generations. For instance, Delvecchio getting beat by Kris Draper? And call it sentimentality, but I disagree with Chelios beating Konstantinov.

I've seen a number of stories and tweets in the past few weeks that have said that he will not receive any salary while the league is locked out. I believe it's the same way with Fehr too, he'll only get paid once a CBA is signed. I'd be more interested to know, however, if Bettman's salary is going to be prorated for the length of time lost for the lockout. If we only have 1/2 of a season, does he only get 1/2 of his salary? I'd wager probably not.

A decade by decade history of the Detroit Red Wings. Hope this helps! http://redwings.nhl....ge.htm?id=43765

It's unbelievable that an employee of the owners/BoG has so much power over them. There are few jobs anywhere else in the world where the employee holds all the power over his employers... I'm glad to hear that the PA is working on a new proposal, but I can't wait to see how long the League rejects it, and submits a counter offer that's pretty much the same thing as their first and second proposals.

Ironically, I just finished up AC:B this weekend. I really want to pick up Assassin's Creed Revelations and go through it before AC3 hits later this month. I'm currently going semi-old-school again, playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Hard to believe that game is almost 10 years old).

I dunno, 3 lockouts in 3 chances for Uncle Gary. If that's not reliable and consistent, I don't know what is...

Well, now we all know how Mike Commodore feels about Bettman... ...and Verizon Wireless...

I think you're exactly right. Since the voting is done on Facebook and Twitter, the generation that would vote for Gordie Howe are going to be at a natural disadvantage, because they don't use social media. My guess, Yzerman vs Lidstrom in the finals, with Stevie taking the title. Regardless of who SHOULD BE in the finals, I just don't see the online voting panning out in any other way.
-
Look at the bracket again. Lidstrom and Yzerman are in different "conferences" (so to speak), so it's definitely possible for them to face off in the finals. Whoever designed the bracket did an odd job of it, with the finals lines above and below the Farmers Insurance logo, rather than on opposite ends of it to the left and right.

Brunner May Play for Zug, not in GR during lockout
Jedi replied to Z Winged Dangler's topic in General
I'm not sure that Zug has a leg to stand on with this. As rrasco pointed out, he signed a two way contract, which stipulates that he could possibly be sent to a league other than the NHL. (Note, that only means he gets paid differently, a two-way contract in no way affects his waiver requirements). If there were no lockout, I don't see Zug trying to claim him back to the Swiss league if he were sent down to GR after training camp, or during the course of the year. If he feels obligated to stay, through club loyalty or something like that, then that's his own personal choice. But needless to say, playing in GR would be VASTLY more beneficial to his possible North American pro career than being back in Switzerland... Although the Swiss do make some damn fine chocolate... -

Eric Macramalla, from Offside Sports Law Blog, obtained a memo from Fehr to players yesterday. I'm not going to link to individual tweets, since there's so many, but you can click on his name and see his timeline. But I thought it was some interesting insight to the mindset of the PA...

I was born in Amarillo TX, and I've attended a few NHL games. That's about as close as it gets, so far.

Hadn't heard this anywhere else, so I'm not sure how much I believe it. I've never heard of this guy, but apparently Bob McKenzie, the NHLPA, George Malik, and others are following him, so he might have a bit of legitimacy. Anywho, it's nothing official, so take it for what it's worth... Bruce Dowbiggin I cannot even imagine how this would work, and still leave the league as an impartial party that sanctions/hosts the games. At the moment, the WC is still going forward as planned, as nothing has been cancelled by the league. The NHL has the right to cancel the WC as late as January 1st, and I'd imagine that if they were going to cancel it, they'd wait until damn near the last possible minute to do so.

*ahem*. While I understand this issue makes it very easy to slip into the "unions vs. employers" debate, please remember that this is a hockey forum, and not a political forum. As such, posts about unions that are not hockey related are considered political discussion, which is not what LetsGoWings was established for. Please keep this discussion on track. Further posts that are deemed by the Mod staff to be political will be deleted, and suspensions could be issued.

No official announcement has been made yet, and I guarantee that nothing will come before the lockout ends. If you're dead set on gambling with your jersey, then Z would be the best bet, as it's almost a certainty that he'll get the "C". Personally, though, I would wait, just in case.
