signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
Barrie replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
I don't think the Wings are bringing Green in to be a #1 d-man. As for ice time, he'll probably be #3 behind Kronwall and DeKeyser. -
Interesting. I wouldn't be against it.

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

Great move only signing him for 3 years! I was thinking it would take a 6 or 7 year deal. -
In fairness to Holland, the UFA's the last number of years haven't been very good. A number of them have already been traded or bought out.
-
That deal looks ok for the Leafs. Other then checking stats, I don't know much about the players they got. I guess the main thing is they got rid of Kessel's full cap hit. You'll have to assume Kessel will score 40 goals with the Pens. We'll see if they can get rid of Phaneuf, but it looks like the Leafs have finally clued in they need to bottom out.

Signed Brendan Smith re-signed 2 yrs $2.75 mill AAV

Good price for a guy who plays 18 minutes a night. -
Another UFA in the league either traded or bought out. More proof the UFA market is overrated and drafting is the way to go. Nyquist will get a contract similar to Tatar

I'll pass

Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason
Barrie replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
No surprise, I've been saying this for months. UFA's are over priced anyway, and we have a number of our RFA's to sign. With guys in Grand Rapids ready to make the jump to the NHL, I'd rather see what we have first. -
Pronger (contract) and Grossman to for Sam Gagner and conditional pick

Trading contracts of guys on the IR, or unable to play, would upset Bettman, so I'm all for them -
Hockey’s Future 2015 NHL Prospect of the Year: Dylan Larkin

Hey Babcock, I guess there's Pav's replacement... Again, I don't have a problem with Babcock being concerned, but don't say it to the media. Just like Jimmy D and his comments about Mantha. -
If he wears #96, I already have a jersey ready

Good read. I also read his other article from January where he mentions how much $ the players actually see. If they sign for $13 Million, after the Feds take 50%, their agents 25%, and the NHL 20%, they only see $660,000 of that! ESPN's 30 for 30 "Broke" mentioned how much athletes actually make too. Considering what they put their bodies through, I think athletes earn every penny.

Players who might be available due to teams cap issues

Out of all the guys mentioned in this discussion, Seabrook is the only one I'd be interested in. -
Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick
Barrie replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
This is kind of a funny comment, I heard something similar from someone in the Toronto media after the deadline, it's like they're trying to convince people teams are actually interested in their overpriced players... I still have a hard time believing the Wings were seriously interested in Phaneuf, other then upping the trade value. It would have been a Salary Cap nightmare. Maybe with Mantha and a 1st round pick Holland can move up in the draft? We don't have cap room to add anyone. -
NBC Sports chairman wants NHL ban playoff beards

You know what I didn't mind about the glowing puck, was tip ins. You could see the puck change directions. -
The afternoon guys on 550 in Buffalo made a good point that either the Coyotes will probably stay in the Phoenix area for at least 1 more year, or end up in another Western city. They can't move to Quebec yet, because it would make 17 teams in the East and 13 in the West.

What changes do you think we'll see with Blashill?
Barrie replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
I've watched a lot of games the last couple years, I understand people have different opinions, but I like the the Smith plays. Yes, he makes mistakes, but I like how he takes risks, and he's always stirring things up. I like to have a few players like Smith on a team, because he disrupts the opposition and keeps them on their toes. Just pair him up with a more responsible defensive partner, and things should be fine. -
I don't think either will be retired, but I joined in on the fun and voted Ozzie. Ozzie has 400 career wins, and holds most of the major Red Wings goalie playoff records.
-
After the RFA's sign, we won't have the cap room to bring him back.
-
Osgood holds all the Red Wings goalie playoff records, I think if Fed's jersey get's retired, Osgood's should too.
-
Knowing the Leafs luck, this 3rd round pick will turn out to be a replacement for Datsyuk I agree, I doubt the Phaneuf trade happens now, which is fine with me.
