Ilitch is being cheap with the Wings now that the Tigers are good.
Barrie replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
The discussions in this message board are getting dumber by the day. Why do I even bother? It's just uninformed whining. I'm outta here! -
Fixed it for ya. Personally I don't like the word "haters"

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs
Barrie replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
I was thinking the same thing. If I was betting on it, I'd put money on the Wings making the playoffs, but if we miss the playoffs (other then my wallet being lighter ), I don't think it's a big deal. I wouldn't mind a mid to high draft pick to add to this young team. Plus it would mean a mid to high 2nd round pick, and we always do really well in the 2nd round. Edit: If people want to see changes, maybe a playoff miss would bring the changes they want? -
Dude, you know what that mean though right? Clowe is on pace for 26 goals this year! I can't believe we missed out on trading for Bryce Harper too. He hit 2 HR's in his first 2 At Bats of the season... Oh wait, wrong sport.

What do you expect from a team that has had one, ONE, 1st round draft pick lower then 20th overall since 1991 (Kindl)? Are you expecting a Crosby like skill in Grand Rapids? The fact that we can continue to win, and are called a team on the rise by Pierre McGuire on Sunday's game vs. Chicago, drafting higher then the 20th overall pick for 20/21 seasons is historic.

Shocking, Wings aren't active as trade deadline expires
Barrie replied to Hutts11's topic in General
I've said the same thing about 50 times on here. Some people don't seem to understand how the salary cap works and how over inflated the trade and ufa markets are, despite how many times this type of information is posted. If people want to cheer for a team that makes short term, front page "sexy" moves at the deadline or sign over valued UFA, they should find a new favorite team. Holland isn't going to trade prospects or 1st round picks for 35 year old player, or sign free agents for 13 years. -

Maybe since the League wants parity, other teams don't want to trade with the Wings since we've won enough already? Edit: It's a conspiracy!

So you're saying Zetterberg is a bum?
-
Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, Holland is thinking long term. He isn't getting into cap trouble and is building through the draft.

Could Kenny be working on something HUGE?
Barrie replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Only 4 points out of 3rd, there's no way the Caps trade OV. -
But for a 13 year deal? No thanks.

An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy
Barrie replied to DetroitRedWings1993's topic in General
Right, as I said in another discussion, how quickly people forget how much of a disappointment Hossa was in the 2009 playoffs, especially the finals. Also looking at both deals and the production from both players since the 2009 playoffs, the whole Franzen vs. Hossa comparison is a wash. -

I guess you didn't watch the last two games on NBC? Pierre McGuire was talking about all our prospects on "D", and how we're a team on the rise. -
Nah, they're young and learning on the fly, just let them play.
-
If that was Holmstrom it would have been a penalty.
-
Yeah I heard that. Not sure how I feel about that, considering he is a hockey player. It's a different kind of occupation.
-
I heard on TSN radio 1050 last week Kipper says if he get's traded he's going home
-
So true, this was one of those years where it was a seller's market. With so many teams still in the running, the Flames should have had a bidding war going on.
-
Right, Blues currently in 9th.
-
Good to hear Pierre talk about our up and coming defensive depth.
-
Seriously? As someone who lives less then an hour from Buffalo and listens to Buffalo radio stations, Buffalo would laugh and make fun of us for months if we replaced Babs with Ruff.

Ok enough Hossa vs. Franzen talk... How quickly people forget Hossa was one of the ones blamed for not winning the 2009 Stanley Cup. Hossa only had 15 points in 23 playoff games, and we were very disappointed in his lack of scoring in the finals. Franzen had 23 pts in 23 playoff games, and 18 pts in 16 playoff games in 2008. Personally 99.99999% of us would have been pissed if Holland signed Hossa over Franzen after 2009. Since the 2008-09 season Hossa has 208 pts in 231 regular season games (90%), Franzen 150 pts in 208 games (72%). Hossa has a cap hit of $5,275,000, Franzen $3,954,545. Franzen get's paid 75% of what Hossa does. I wouldn't even say hindsight is 20/20, because for dollar value, it's even.

And people here were saying Holland wasn't ready for Lidstrom's retirement...
