Franzen should have been at Tae Bo class during the lockout
Barrie replied to Behind Enemy Lines in CO's topic in General
Franzen has a history of concussions, I'm sure the last thing he wants to do is get punched repeatedly in the head. I still don't get what the big deal is about fighting in hockey. If you want to see fights and people getting concussions, watch the UFC or play video games that have fighting in them. -
Yeah 40 shots tonight. If we can get that many shots and have Howard play well, we should be fine. It's only been 3 games people. However, if you want to get all stressed out and lose sleep over a 1-2-0 start, be my guest. If we fall back (it's bound to happen), that just means a better position for a impact player in the draft.

I mentioned this when we thought he retired 2 weeks ago, I'm proud to have Holmstrom on one of my Wings jerseys and wearing it to games, I have an Yzerman and Shanahan too. Despite Yzerman being my all-time favorite player, the Holmstrom jersey is my favorite (figure that one out ). Holmstrom symbolizes what America and Canada were founded out, hard work can make you a success. Edit: I'll miss you man.

26? For who? Hudler or Kocur?

signed Red Wings sign D Kent Huskins to 1-year, $750k contract
Barrie replied to Jedi's topic in General
For a fill in guy, that's a good deal. -
Gotta love the overboard analysis for a 1-1-0 road trip after being locked out for 5 months. I always say, if teams play .500 on the road, things are ok (assuming the home record is over .500).

Add DMac to Twitter, he's got pictures of his wife on there, and he has a step daughter. Edit: Anyone else think it's weird seeing Emmerton wearing 25?

injured Colaiacovo Out 3-4 Weeks with Shoulder Injury
Barrie replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Yeah didn't see that one coming... I would have thought maybe 10 games before he got injured, but nope, only 2 -
I was watching this game with a Leaf fan, when Colaiacovo got hurt I said to him, "Oh look Colaiacovo got hurt again", he said, "Yup".

It's 1 game, 47 to go, but honestly, I'm good either way if we have a good or bad season. I'm not one of these, "Just make the playoffs, anything can happen" fans. If losing Lidstrom is going to be this big of a blow, then why not just reload through the draft?... Next game is @ Columbus, so everything could be right in Hockeytown again by tomorrow night. By the way, I laughed when I saw the Canucks score. All the Schneider #1 and trade Luongo talk and Schneider he allows 5 goals on 14 shots!
-
Ok, I've decided I'm going to allow myself to watch on TV, so I'll be watching tonight. I'm interested in how things will go without Lidstrom, and I'm looking forward to Tootoo as a Wing. As for buying tickets and merchandise, not a chance. I'm not giving myself a deadline for spending money, all I can say is I have no interest in financially supporting the league. Bettman can suck it, and I encourage everyone else to do the same! All fans need to do is stay away for a couple weeks, and the greedy owners will get the message. I'm disapointed to hear how fast some team's tickets are being sold, but I'm not surprised. All that complaining and threats for 6 months, and as soon as they new CBA is signed fans run back! So much for the fans taking a stand.
-
Yea I don't think this so called new and improved CBA is going to help at all. The dirt poor teams will still be dirt poor, and the rich teams will be able to sit on even more profits since the players gave up 7%. They missed more than half a season to ONLY get a 50/50 split in revenues and 7 and 8 years cap on contract lengths. They could have had this thing figured out in 20 minutes in the summer! I'd bet money we'll see another lockout in 8 years.

GM Ken Holland says Red Wings might not make playoffs this year
Barrie replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
You guys who think Holland is going to get fired if the Wings miss the playoffs are crazy! Holland's going no where. If Holland was ever available, all the other 29 teams would be interested and Kenny could name his price. -
and a Tigers World Series Championship Call me crazy but I think the D isn't as bad as people think. Quincey, Smith, Kindl, and Ericsson are all over 6'0, Kronwall has people keeping their heads up, and White and Carlo chip in with skill. You'd have to think Smith and Kindl are going to get better, Quincey was a very solid pick up, and Ericsson, as people have said in another discussion, played very well the last 2/3 of the season. Then there's Kronwall and White, we know what they're capable of. Seriously, who could we get that's better than Kronwall, Quincey, Ericsson, White, or Smith without selling the farm? Defensemen, just like starting pitching in Baseball, are way over priced.

I think the Wings will reach 100 pts again for the 13th season in a ro.... Oh, wait a second.

Holland has only traded two roster players since 2002
Barrie replied to Dave Anderson's topic in General
I guess some people still don't understand the changes that were made in the 2004-05 lockout. A salary cap went into place, now trades are like they are in the NBA, mostly salary dumps. Look at the last 7 trade deadlines, they're nothing like they were before the 04-05 lockout. People seem to think this still the early 2000's when teams could spend and do what they want. It's a different world out there now. Teams need to draft and develop their own players. Even Free Agency isn't what it used to be, the maket is over inflated. Yes I'm being sarcastic, but I'm surprised that there's so many people that still don't understand how everything works. Holland can't make Chelios, Schneider, and Lang type trades anymore. Also signing Suter for 13 years is insane! -
I think this one is funny. I've waived the Ticketmaster fees for years. I just call the Red Wings for tickets and pick them up at Will Call on game day.

All Luongo has to do is get the Leafs in the playoffs and he'll be a hero... Vancouver's media is much worse then Toronto's. Canucks fans want a Stanley Cup, all Leaf fans want is to make the playoffs. There's no pressure in Toronto to win, just to be average. I agree the place for Luongo to go is Florida or Tampa.
-
Right, he screwed the organization right away with that horrible deal for Kessel. And it gets even worse as time goes on. And to think there's a large group of fans and media in Toronto that defended that deal, and still do. My question is, with Hall and Seguin available in the upcoming draft, wouldn't you do anything in your power to get one of them to build your team around? Any other city, Burke would have been fired after 2 years, if he wasn't boooed out of town by the fans before that. Only in Toronto he'd last 4 years. Toronto likes to self proclaim themselves as the meccha of hockey, and that they have the toughest media and fans in the NHL. Far from it. Toronto's media and fans have to be one of the easiest, passive, and uneducated to deal with. The only thing they're #1 in is being annoying. I seem to be more upset with the Leafs organization then actual Leaf fans are.
-
Really? He scored 54 goals his last 3 years. No, now it's time.
-
Now I need a new favorite player! All the best Homer! You had me laughing many times during games watching you do your thing in front of the net, and after the whistle.
-
Please don't go running back! Stand up for yourselfs and show Bettman and Fehr we won't put up with their crap any longer! Full areans will only give leadership the financial support that what they did to us was right, and we'll probably see another lockout in 8 years. This is your entertainment dollars we're talking about! Show them what they did to us was wrong!

NHL submits offer to NHLPA - **Suspension Warning Post #70 & #273*
Barrie replied to Jedi's topic in General
Well if they're ready to drop the puck, the thing I'm most interested in is how many fans and advertisers will be back, especially the advertisers. I'm not buying tickets or more Red Wings gear, or even wear Red Wings gear. I'll feel like a fool if I wear Wings stuff, plus I haven't worn any Wings gear since the summer. However I'll check out games on TV to see if arenas are half empty. It's similar to a car wreck on the highway, you can't turn away. I hope fans react like MLB fans reacted after the strike, but I'm not holding my breath since this is the 3rd work stoppage since 1994. A good percentage of hockey fans, are hockey fans only, and they'll be back right away. The NHL is going to have to win me back. Edit: Speaking about not turning away, I find the business of sports very interesting, plus I'm a Business Admistration College Graduate and have two small business of my own. As annoyed and pissed off I am with this League, I can't completely turn away. I'm shocked that they'd let the lockout go this far after huge growth in the sport the last 7 years, and want to see if they're smart enough to recover their losses. Until the League wins me back, I now feel like an outsider looking in with a business interest. Plus Baseball has always been my #1 sport, that's the sport I can't live without. I can honestly say, news of a CBA almost done doesn't excite me. I did miss the game, especially when there was nothing else on TV to watch, but I'm past the point now of looking forward to the season starting. -
Well with how great these negotiations are going and how smart the people in charge are, cheering Holland would make Bettman think the fans are in favor of the lockout. I think one way for the League to get fans to come back is to fire Bettman. 20 years of seeing his ugly mug is way too long. Fehr should go too.

NHL submits offer to NHLPA - **Suspension Warning Post #70 & #273*
Barrie replied to Jedi's topic in General
I agree. My neighbor, who's a Wings fans too, and I were talking. We were saying what's the point, just get it right and come back next year. If Bettman's trying to pull a fast one on the players, then I don't see any advantage in trying to put a CBA together in a week just to play a 48 game season. Like you said, the NFL playoffs start on Sunday, and Baseball gets going soon. Detroit will be focused on the return of VMart, the all-star line up of the Tigers, and seeing them getting back to the World Series.
