Nightfall

For those of you who haven't seen this yet, its a great documentary from the Russian point of view on the rise of Russian hockey back in the 60s-90s. It features Red Wing greats like Fetisov, Larionov, and the rest of the Russian five. I found this story to be excellent! Obviously, there is a lot of interviews and footage about the 1980 Olympic team and the fallout from losing to the Americans. It was two hours long and I found a copy on youtube. Winnipeg is going to get bad end of the deal in any trade, but that is to be expected. The Galchenyk for Kane trade rumor would be the best thing for Winnipeg if it happened. I would say it could be much worse. Its like trading Sheehan for Kane. I wouldn't want that cancer in my locker room. No freaking way.

Its call expectations. I have high expectations for the Wings every year, so I am partially guilty of it myself. At the same time, I don't have lofty expectations. If the Wings make it to the 2nd round this year, I will be very satisfied.

Lets put it this way. The doom and gloomers are back on board until we don't win the Stanley Cup. Then, they will be back in force.

ok, since no one has mentioned it..... How did this guy break a pane of glass just by hitting it? I referee hockey and I have parents and fans hitting the glass at times. That glass obviously had to be already flawed in some way.

He got zero media attention because he worked his ass off and didn't say much outside of that. The guys that get the huge media attention, like Evander "more money" Kane, usually are doing something outside of hockey that get attention.

Yea, I hear ya. I was thinking this was Teemu's chance to shine and he really hasn't. He is NHL ready, and needs more time at the NHL level. The AHL is already old hat for him, but the Wings will probably need to send him back if he doesn't start producing.

McCollum is not an NHL ready goaltender.

He is young and needs more time at this level to get better. Patience!

Got to hand it to the Wings. They started slow, and came back to take the lead. In fact, after 5 unanswered goals, I would say that they are dominating Buffalo. I find it funny that after we fell down 3-0, the usual "Tank it" and "Contender" comments started to fly. Now that we are ahead, the forum has turned around quickly.

I have to agree with this. There is no excuse for diving. I know many Wings fans, including me, don't condone it and for the most part we don't have players that participate in that buffoonery. The Nyquist video is pretty telling, and I think he will make adjustments in his game as a result. None of the players like being publicly outed and I love the new NHL policy that punishes diving. I would like to see them hit their wallet a bit more than just a couple grand, but I think the policy is working very well.

Hrm, don't know what to think of this trade to be honest. Perron could be a very good forward, but I wouldn't say he is top 6 by any stretch. Still, with Comeau and Kunitz missing a lot of time due to injury, they really needed some depth. The Oilers are stockpiling draft picks again. The rest of the league should not be concerned.

The Wings had their chances to win that game in regulation, OT, and then the shootout. I was impressed with Mrazek's play, but where is the goal support? There is none when they are only scoring 1-2 goals per game at the most. Hell, the Wings have only scored 6 goals the last 7 games. That isn't going to win many games. They haven't scored 3 goals in a game since December 7th.

There are many here that still remember the 2002 Wings team that won the cup. They were #1 in the preseason rankings. In 2008 the Wings were #3 before the season started. Many analysts gave the nod to San Jose or the Rangers because they were so deep. Many Wings fans felt that those teams were "contending" teams. Before the season started here, many Wings fans were on the cusp of bailing on this team. No real significant signings in free agency. No changes to the personal. This team was ranked in the middle of the pack in the preseason and were going to possibly miss the playoffs. I loved the tanking thread by the way. Two months ago, this team was only going to be contending for a playoff spot. Its amazing to see what happens when the team is playing well and is healthy for the most part. Now, all of a sudden, shocked Wings fans are thinking this team can contend for the cup. Guess what? They can! The teams are so even that anyone who makes the playoffs can win the cup. Health, getting hot at the right time, and puck luck are all it takes to make it happen. I believe this team can challenge for the cup so long as they stay healthy, stay hot, and get those bounces that wins games (look at the Tatar goal against Carolina where it goes in off a defenseman's skate for instance).

I have been to a few Griffins games and Mantha has been solid. It hasn't equated to scoring like everyone wanted to see. What he is turning in is a solid two way effort. You can tell from how hard he is skating is that the points are going to come in time. He missed all of training camp due to that injury, and it just made sense that he was going to struggle out of the gate.

If the Wings acted like this after being a bottom feeder team for the last 6 years, I probably would have become a Florida Panthers fan. Calling out the players? No change to management? I suppose because Edmonton tickets are selling well, then the owner doesn't see a need to change. Maybe Connor McDavid will be savior.

I think Bagdad Bob is going to make an appearance tomorrow. Seriously though, I think something major is going to change. As the reports say, the coach isn't getting fired. I bet it is something high up like the GM stepping down.

Wings are within a point of the top spot in the east. [sarcasm] We should have tanked it for sure. [/sarcasm] The kids are playing great. The vets are playing great. This wasn't a excellent all around effort, but we did what we needed to do to win.

Mantha looks very good. He has great hands. I attended the game last week when he scored his first goal. I saw the highlights of him scoring again tonight.

Weiss has played well for the Griffins yesterday and tonight so far.

There is no buy out in the NHL. I really haven't read the entire agreement with the NHL though. Maybe there will be one offered down the road. I certainly wish there was though. Sorry I misunderstood you on that.

As much as I will miss the leadership in the locker room, his absence is giving the kids a chance to play. The kids are part of the reason why I enjoy watching the Wings this season. The kids are our future, and so far the future is very bright.

Not a chance. No one wants our damaged goods just as we don't want the damaged goods of other teams. As of right now, I am hoping that Weiss can get healthy and start producing for us like he did for Florida. Thats all any of us can do at this stage.
