If the Wings would have signed Legwand, then I would say the trade was a good one. Just the fact we lost a good prospect for a rental is a little disappointing.

http://www.freep.com/article/20140506/SPORTS05/305060038 Well, it looks like he won't be resigned. I guess I question why Holland traded for him in the first place at this stage. Yes, I know, to make the playoffs. I still believe we should have given the kid a chance at the NHL level first.

I am still trying to figure out who we could get for Franzen's cap number that would be just as good if not better. You know when Vanek signs with a team he is going to ask for $6 million a season at least. If we are going to buy out Franzen, and put plugs into our team, I am sure that wouldn't go over well with the fanbase.
-
For those people wanting Vlassic, who would we trade to get him? I am sure we will see many humorous posts about Glendenning, Abdelkader, and so on being offered up, but Vlassic isn't going to be moving unless we really offered up a top prospect. Such as Mantha for instance. The Sharks may in fact blow their team up, but they won't take scraps for their assets.
-
Agreed! Plus I look at the ice time situation. If he plays in Grand Rapids, he will get 1st or 2nd line minutes, plus special teams time as well. If he plays in the NHL, he probably will play 3rd to 4th line minutes with no power play time. I would rather have him playing 16-18 minutes a night in GR than 8-10 minutes a night in the NHL.
-
The Bruins retooled some of their roster after they blew a 3-0 series lead. I would imagine that the Sharks will do something similar. They have some good young talent that is coming up though so it may not be that big of a change.
-
He wouldn't be free. Someone would have had to pickup his contract. Yea, I get what you are saying though.
-
Personally, I hope he moves on in his playoff run. He is going to have plenty of time to play for the Griffins next season. If he leads his team to a championship, it will bring valuable experience in the AHL/NHL for sure.

It would have been nice to have capgeek back then to put everything in and test that theory. According to all the news outlets, it didn't seem possible. I know I wasn't ready to ditch a couple key pieces in order to sign both Hossa and Franzen.
-
Is that true? I was under the impression that it was either Franzen or Hossa, and if they chose Hossa they would have had to not resign Darren Helm and maybe another player. With the salary cap, I don't think they could have made it work without sacrificing a couple players from their core.

Right now, Jarnkrok is just a prospect and he did look good in 12 games with Nashville. To call this trade a success or failure will be judged in a few years. Either you have faith that he will be a guaranteed stud, or you think he will be somewhere in the middle, or you don't believe he will be good at all. Right now, I believe that some Wings fans are going over the top by saying he is a future star in the league. I don't know what his future is going to be so I won't speculate. I will agree with you on this point. If they don't retain Legwand, then it really was flipping him for nothing in which case I will be disappointed. If Legwand signs, then it was a worthwhile trade. BTW, who listens to what Pierre Mcguire has to say anyway? When Mcguire gushes about anyone, it usually gets a lot of scorn from Wings fans.

I don't believe he was the "face of the next generation" at all. In order to be the face of the next generation, he has to be seen. I recognize he was a prospect, but thats all he was is a prospect. Maybe, just maybe an above average prospect. We have other prospects that are more "the face of the next generation". Players like Jurco, Tatar, Nyquist, Mrazek, and Mantha are players I would say are those next level prospects.

On the contrary, there are people here saying he is Zetterberg 2.0. I could quote about 8 posts easily in this thread from users who geniunely believe he is and are saying so. There is a big difference in the wording, which is key. You put it very accurately in that he has the potential. To say without a doubt that he is an elite player is really a desperate assumption at this stage. As you so elequantly pointed out though, the farm systems are entirely different. That does have a factor in his development. From my standpoint, there are players that do well in one organization and then do poorly. Look at Jonathan Cheechoo who won the goal scoring race back in the day. Now he is mired in the AHL probably for good. Its tough to tell who is going to pan out. He isn't Zetterberg 2.0. He may develop into that, but it won't be established for a couple years at least.
-
Griffins are getting back Sheahan, Jurco, and Oulette for their playoff run. I thought Glendenning was also a possibility, but oh well. Go Griffins!
-
I am still trying to figure out why some people here think that he was Zetterberg 2.0 with just 12 games of NHL experience under his belt. Are people that dilluted to think that he is an elite NHL player at this stage in his career? There are many players who started off great in the first 20 games and then turned out to be average NHL players or not around the league after that.
-
I agree. Plus, Mrazek can get #1 goalie work with the Griffins as opposed to riding the pine for 60+ games in the NHL. Resign The Monster for one year at the same contract hit.
-
The way we are playing right now, we wouldn't beat Buffalo in a 7 game series.
-
Lindback will be a free agent for sure. This performance has sealed his fate.

Helm gets one shot, and the crowd goes crazy. That is how depressed the crowd is. -

What a craptastic uninspired effort. I have never been so embarassed. -

True that. Its not as fat as some top tier goalies out there though. If he was making Pekka Rinne money or Luongo money, I would agree. Heck, Carey price is making more as well. He is more paid like the middle of the goaltending pack for starting goalies. -

I will agree with you on deflating goals. As a goalie, I know that is a factor. If we are going to expect Howard to play every game and get lucky like game 1, its unrealistic. -

At this point, I would put more blame on the lack of goal scoring. Kinda hard to win games when you only score 1 goal per game. Heck, today we have nothing and only 3 shots on goal. Lets put it this way, if Howard was allowing 5 goals and losing 5-4, I would agree with you. *cough cough* Lindback -

Hell, everyone looks like 93 out there. -
A couple notes here.... If the NBC accouncers say its a bad goal, but Mickey calls them idiots, everyone here laughs. However.... When Mickey says that the clearing attempt by Howard that went off of Brendan Smith's skate was a bad bounce, and yet everyone here says it was all Howard's fault. Also, when Mickey says that "Howard was not at fault for the loss", everyone here doesn't believe him. So, in the end, its funny how we like Mickey but we certainly have selective listening skills when it comes to his analysis. Personally I think that Mickey is one of the best hockey color commentators that I have heard, next to Bill Clement.
