This series is going at least 6 games, and I would like to think that the Wings will be winning the cup. Spoken like a truly biased Wings fan. Seriously though, I have seen MAYBE 1 or 2 calls that could have went the Wings way. In the meantime, I haven't seen a single call the refs have called against Detroit that I wouldn't have called myself.

I have to hand it to Dallas, they are playing hungry and desperate. I am not a fan of the Wings playing the way they are, but oh well. Whatever gets the job done I guess. aaaargh.....missed 2 on 1.

They gotta hit the net. I was listening to hockey this morning on XM204 and they said that detroit missed the net on only 4 shots in game 3. In game 5 they missed the net 19 times. Gotta keep those pucks on target.

I think the reason why he doesn't come out and say that is it would give ammunition to the side that lost to ***** about it even more. Imagine if the NHL came out and admitted that Hull's skate was in the crease when Dallas won the cup in Game 6 against the Sabres. Could you imagine the backlash against the NHL for admitting such a mistake? Making these calls is a split second decision just based on what the ref sees at the time. Its not easy to make a call when the game is played that fast. You say that the ref should make the same call and the fans should expect the call to be made. Well, its easy if you are an armchair fan watching the game on the television. On the ice, its a different story. If you put 10 refs on the ice for the Holmstrom goal, maybe 7 of them would allow the goal. The other 3 disallow it. Bastardizing the refs here is NOT the answer. Pointing out calls they "should have had" and saying they were wrong isn't the answer. Course, I like actually hearing the refs are human and make mistakes, but die hard fans don't want to hear that. Die hard fans just want to see their teams win. What should be done is the refs should be taken into training in the off season, like they do every year, and shown what should be done. Still, in the end, the human element of judgement is what dictates the calls in a game. Its for that reason why its a best of 7 series. That way, one game where the "calls go against you" is just that. One game. The Wings have outplayed the Stars 3 games in a row.

To the winning team, the officials called a good game. To the losting team, the officials are to blame and sucked. The losing side remembers all the bad calls, the penalities, the called off goals, and so on. You have to be a true hockey fan and not part of hometown bias to really see the refs in a neutral light. I have seen many hockey games where I had no stake or didn't care how either team did. In those games, you really observe the game differently. Calls the refs make are not put under a microscope. The end result you just acknowledge and the basis on if the game was good or not really depends on what entertainment value you weret here for. A game of mistakes is pretty damn accurate. To one side, the winning side, there were no mistakes. To the losing side, there were HUGE mistakes and the refs should be fired. Probably not what Bettmen meant though....

I wholeheartedly agree. However, I have to say you would be a lot more forgiving than a bulk of the people posting in this thread saying "f*** Bettman". Just like the Stars fans were calling for the refs heads when Holmstrom was in the blue paint and deflected that shot from Lindstrom. When that goal was counted, I thought that Dallas would get a favorable call down the road. However, you try not to read anything into it. I would never do anything like that as a ref. Yet, the conspiracy theorist in me has to wonder....
