Nightfall

The Wings are not going to win many games taking a period off. If they would have had the pedal to the floor for 60 minutes, they would have won this game. Instead, they let the Preds dictate the game in the first period and it cost them. I know there are people here that like to lay the blame on the coaching staff, reffing, Bettman, certain players, and so on, but I am of the opinion that a full 60 minute effort wins games. So far, we haven't seen a full 60 minutes out of either team. Seems like, in game 2, the Wings came out strong in the first and then tailed off in the 2nd and 3rd. Today, Nashville did the same thing.

Just further proof that anything can happen in the playoffs. I really liked the thread here that talked about the Pens being the cup favorites. Yet, here they are down 2-0. The series isn't over though, but so far, the Flyers have done what they needed to do.

I have to agree. Also, the first game of the series appears to be a blip. The refs aren't going to call it like that every game, and in fact, those are the exception, not the norm.

It certainly was legit if you don't have access to instant replay.

The Preds power play is dangerous. So many chances, and they cycle the puck so well. Howard has been up to the task so far though. (Knock on wood)

Admitting the league makes all kinds of mistakes is really stating the obvious. There isn't a sports league on this planet that doesn't have mistakes that are made by the referees or linesmen. The linesman that missed that offsides call probably won't be working the rest of the playoffs this year. I have a friend who referees for the CCHA. Even he says that an egregious missed call by a linesman like this will guarantee him to have a few weeks off. Same goes for a head referee who makes a mistake when it comes to rule knowledge.

I think that was sarcastic as well. I can recall years back if one team got a 5 on 3, the other team was guaranteed a 5 on 3 later in the game. It always seemed to work out like that.

I am not surprised by Weber getting just fined. If Franzen was fined or suspended for that punch on Montador, I would have been more apt to believe that Weber should have been suspended, but thats beside the point. I don't condone the actions of Weber, but if a Wings player did this to one of the Preds players after the game, then the Wings fans would be laughing about it today. Just like when it was funny when Franzen punched Montador, and many fans were laughing about that. Blackhawk fans were butthurt over it. In the end, I would love to have Weber playing for the Wings in a couple years. This incident was a blip on the radar. He is a top defenseman that would work in very well with the Wings.

I was being sarcastic with that post, but I digress.... (It seems that people can't pick up sarcasm here unless you add the /sarcasm tags) If we had seen this through the course of 16 or 24 games in the NHL playoffs first round, I would agree with you. I believe, when the first round is complete, you will take these kinds of games and they will be the exception more than the rule. I believe you will see more games reffed like the Pens and Flyers game last night. As it turns out, you are passing judgement on just 3 games played. Lets wait before we pass judgement.
