When it comes to betting on the winner of the Stanley Cup and if a team will win it or someone else, always take the field. It takes real faith in a team to say they will win the Stanley Cup. Sadly, we don't have many fans who have that faith.
-
I agree. In order to win the Stanley Cup, you have to have some puck luck, be healthy, and skilled. The Wings are one of the top teams in the NHL so they have the skill, but the key will always be health and puck luck.

If those 3 leave, that will give us almost $13 million in cap space. Lids won't be leaving though.

2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET

Emmerton would have value if we traded him to the Hawks for John Scott and a bag of used pucks. Seriously though, we are in total agreement. No team is going to let us trade table scraps for a solid player. Which is why I am surprised that people here are bitching a lot. Do they not understand this? Ken Holland is not Obi-Wan-Kenobi. Columbus GM: "We want a first rounder and Datsyuk for Nash" Obi-Ken-Kenobi: *Waives hand* "You want Emmerton for Nash" Columbus GM: "We want Emmerton for Nash" Obi-Ken-Kenobi: *Waives hand* "Actually, you want Emmerton for Nash and a 1st rounder" Columbus GM: "We want Emmerton for Nash and a 1st rounder" All we need to do is give Ken Holland the force and we can get any player we want. -

No team is going to win the cup every year. 4 cups in 15 years is a hell of a run, especially in the new NHL where back to back championships haven't been won since 97-98. The Wings were close in 09, but thats beside the point. Quincey is a 3rd/4th defenseman playing on the 3rd line. Just for clarification. I don't think the Sharks got that much better or Nashville did either for that matter. It was really an unsurprising, uneventful trade deadline. The only thing is that Buffalo wasn't trading Gaustad for Emmerton. They wanted a first rounder for him. I think that price is too much to pay for him. -

Well, this is what LGW forum members wanted. They wanted to see Smith playing with the Wings. Looks like he will get his chance.

Actually, there are people saying that, so don't say no one is saying it. They want Nash and are willing to give up prospects and draft picks for him. People such as yourself are aligned with what I believe as well. Probably Kenny too for that matter. Getting that right deal is going to be difficult. -

As if anyone is going to just give us a big name by just dumping salary and not asking for something in return...... He has the salary space, but when GMs like the Islanders are asking for a top prospect and a #1 draft choice for Parenteau, I have to agree with Kenny. Too expensive. -

I have to agree. You would think with 4 Stanley Cups to his name in the last 15 years that Ken Holland would have gotten at least a little credit. Instead, I get the impression that everyone here wants him to make some deal that will mortgage the future of this team and go for broke this season. I just don't get that thought process. -

Red Wings are not acquiring Gaustad. According to USA Today insider and ESPN as well. -
Its a long season. They were bound to have a letdown eventually. Better now than the playoffs.
-
Didn't look like one to me at all. I guess I am in the minority.
-
He didn't dive at the player. He went to turn and lost an edge. If you want to start calling penalties when players lose an edge and fall into someone, then I am ok with that. There sure are going to be a lot of penalties called though.
-
Not one, not 2, but 3 chances on Howard while the team just watches. Thats disgusting.
-
Actually, if you rewound the DVR, you would see he lost an edge and his feet tripped him up as he fell. I can see why that wasn't a call.
-
I agree with Mick. You can't be at your best over 82 games. The Wings have made a lot of mistakes in this first 6 minutes. They are playing with no urgency.
-
Burrows broke his stick in half like that in Game 7 of the cup final last year when they went down 3-0. I will have to find the video and see if its online or anything. When he did it after his shootout goal, I thought Vancouver was going to riot.
-
Yea, most of the Wings players that have celebrated after scoring a goal don't showboat that much. I know Dats has fist pumped a few times, and then Tatar was showing off the jersey once. Thats why I like the Wings. They are classy and professional.
-
I really don't mind Quincey and Erickson as the 3rd D-line pairing. Yea, Erickson hasn't been stellar, but I think thats a damn good 3rd line pairing for the NHL.
-
They have to have something to cheer about. Hell, the last time something this big happened to Vancouver, they lost 4-0 at home in Game 7 of the cup final. Maybe they will riot tonight.
-
I agree. Quincey is going to be a good 3rd line defenseman for us. He was a 2nd line defenseman in Colorado and for the Kings, so thats some depth right there. The bad news is that Commodore probably won't get much more playing time.

In the last 20 seconds.... Lost faceoff in the defensive zone? Check Failed clearing attempt? Check Another failed clearing attempt? Check Falling down all over the place trying to get a penalty? Check 4 of your 5 players all hovering around in the crease or behind the net? Check That was just a bad 20 seconds, and Vancouver made them pay.

One cuss word = cuss laden? I would hate to see what would happen if I used more than one. Seriously though, its a crap excuse. You aren't going to point the Wings out for losing the faceoff, or the sloppy play trying to get the puck out of the zone, or the way 4 of the guys backed into Howard and wouldn't allow him to see the puck.... You are just concentrating on a blown icing call. I am just glad you aren't coaching the Wings. Any excuse will do eh? I suppose the Wings would be 82-0 in your mind because there is no way they could lose unless it was the refs or some outside force that altered their destiny. Its not just you either, its everyone else bitching about a blown icing call that needs a wakeup call. The Wings didn't deserve to win this game. Vancouver outplayed them for two periods. The better team won. Deal with it and move on. The Wings have to improve because this crappy play did not get them the win streak or their record atop the NHL standings. The last two games without Dats has been a real eye opener. I know Babcock isn't in the locker room whining about the refs. He should be tearing his team a new ass for lazy marginal play. You would be wise to wake up and call this game for what it was.....a crappy effort by the Wings with a few bright spots thrown in by the 3rd line.
