Wrong before last nights game, definitely wrong now. And I don't really give a rip about Luongo, it's only so many fans love to play "if only we signed Luongo for $8 million a season..."

The idea that the Hawks won't make the playoffs is absolutely laughable. All the best teams got off to slow starts this year and just as the Red Wings have begun to improve and show their true colors, the Hawks will soon follow. They'll get an extra boost on offense and in terms of thinking team defense once Hossa gets into the lineup. They'll be fine, and I wouldn't count out Huet to surprise some people before it's over. He's not great and he won't be at the top of the stats anytime soon, but it's early yet and as the team improves, his numbers will also improve, just like Osgood's have in a matter of days. Again, remember that a week ago Osgood was among the bottom of the pack of goalies in terms of stats and 3 solid games later he's moving on up again. In general, it's just way too early for this kind of ridiculous speculation.

I still think it's more sad that anything related to the swine flu is in the headlines at all. I don't even know what to say. Media and hype... Great reads: Media Fear Tactics: https://www.gavindebecker.com/index.php/res...a_fear_tactics/ Apocalypse Not Now: https://www.gavindebecker.com/index.php/res...olypse_not_now/

Andy Strickland: "Wings and 'Hawks lead Forsberg race"
gcom007 replied to The Mule's topic in General
I thought someone topped a thread from two years ago. I have no idea what to say about this. True or not. There's no upside to giving this any thought at this point be it positive or negative. -
I love this.

Avery is a riot. I would gladly welcome him back. We've already got enough classy guys. We could use a class clown to liven things at the Joe up a bit and put in some goals.
-
You know what else was different? I've been eating leftover Halloween candy the last two games. I wasn't eating leftover halloween candy before Saturday's game. It's an interesting correlation, no? I should make a new thread and see what people think.

As of now he has better numbers than Luongo. The ebb and flow of Chris Osgood's status on LGW's never ceases to humor me. I'm all about placing bets in a sticky thread. I think I'd win a lot of money from the many of the tiny-minded haters...

Again, total ******* bulls***.
-
That's total ******* bulls***.

Big yes. He's looked solid the last few games. I'm really happy with him stepping up after so many games of the D just sucking.
-
Osgood just said exactly what I've been thinking since Flip went down and everyone scrambled with the lineup: we're figuring out where guys fit and it's helping. BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'm pretty sure the stats after todays game will be better than Luongo's...
-
We do, it's just sometimes the team decides to see what happens when Osgood is the only guy in a Wings uniform actually playing.

50 Shut Outs for Mr. Osgood. Hey dumbass, I mean Mindfly, anything to say?

I wish my name was Anze. Hello, my name is Anze. Hi, I'm Anze. Yes, this is Anze...*****.
-
Well, we seem to have gotten along alright without him thus far. Seemingly better than we did with him. (Now this is getting funny.)
-
Franzen, yes. Flip, no. Bring it Aussie...
-
Sure, who wants a powerplay?
-
They spend more time watching and less playing.
-
Hope it's not too bad. He's one of the few guys, and probably the top guy, that I think needs to be playing all the time. He's good for the league.

The Vancouver game was a blatant mess. It happens. Hell, it happened to Luongo in a game 7 game. The Phoenix OT goal: was it an ugly goal? Yeah. Do I blame him. Honestly, no. I don't think Osgood's head was in the game. Osgood gave the Wings more opportunities to win than they needed in the first 60 minutes and the team just completely fell apart in the last 10 minutes. I think Osgood was probably rightfully furious at the whole situation and I'm sure it got the best of him in OT. After all, it's October. I don't expect anyone to have the kind of focus they'd have in the playoffs in October. When your team just rolls over and dies while you're still playing great, and he absolutely played nothing short of GREAT for 60 minutes, it's gotta be infuriating. He's the only reason we didn't lose in regulation and I honestly knew that we were going to lose that game before OT started. The team rolled over and died and I think somewhere in Osgood's head a switch went off. I'm not saying it's totally right or that it wasn't a bad goal, but why in the hell should I fault the guy for having a GREAT 60 minutes and then have to go into overtime because the team completely gives up? It's a stupid thing to do. Every player on the ice owed Chris Osgood an apology for that loss. I really think he was just infuriated by the time OT rolled around and it got the best of him, but it was the rest of the skaters failing to do their jobs that caused it.

Osgood has looked pretty solid most of the time this season. He's been the victim of the team falling apart in front of him more than anything. Osgood's had more than few games where he's had a great game going for 40-50 minutes. Then the team stops playing and he still makes a ton of saves, but when you keep giving up quality scoring chance after quality scoring chance, they're going to go in. Could he be better? Sure, but has he really been that bad? I don't think so at all, especially considering his "worst" moments for the most part have come after the team broke down. The difference tonight is the team didn't flounder it in the 3rd.
