It's definitely good to see that we found a way to win against a hot goalie and that we in turn were able to ice a goalie who kept it shut even tighter. That's big. I think they'll keep this momentum going and bring a better game to round 2.
-
You can't ask for anything better from Osgood since he's gotten the call. That's the bottom line. That said, he'll have to keep it up and keep upping the ante moving forward b/c we're going to face tougher teams, but hopefully he and the rest of the team does just that and we keep this thing going. It's great to win the series and you can't critique Osgood's game negatively whatsoever, but the team just has to keep moving forward and upping their game. It's go time.
-
Yep, I was so glad to hear how loud they were for their team even after being eliminated. It's a beautiful thing sometimes in sports when you can look back after a series like this and be able to give a team like Nashvile and their fans their due without such a bad taste in your mouth.
-
Yep, once again for Ellis and definitely gotta give those Nashville fans credit for keeping it loud. As a fan of hockey, they were fun to watch and hear. Good stuff.

What a nice turnaround that series was. Gotta say hats off to Dan Ellis and the Predators for keeping it tight and playing hard. Gotta love finishing this one up though now. We'll take a few days off here and hopefully work out some of the kinks and get Zetterberg going again. Hopefully Stuart can either rest up a bit or get his head straight as well for the next round. And hats off to Osgood for surrendering just 1 goal to the Preds and shutting the door today early. You couldn't ask for better goaltending out of him especially coming off the bench. And it'll be great to have Maltby back next round!!!
-
Let's just hold on one more period...I'm thinking Zetterberg needs to come out and get an early goal to give us a bit of padding and get his game going. So, umm, go Hank and Wings! Keep the door closed Ozzie!!!
-
I can't believe the thought of Emery in a Wings jersey ever even crosses anyone's mind. I read this in the paper too yesterday and it's just mind-blowing to me that anyone should even have to ask this let alone think it at all.

Way to hang on Caps...nice to see and hear that arena the way it was today. Good for them. Another Game 6. So weird to see Feds in a Caps jersey.

Wow, great pass there...
-
What? He was great in those 3 games he wasn't injured in for us!

s***! Not so fast! Wow...

So at least one more game in this series...

Draper says: Tootoo intentionally stepped on my back
gcom007 replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
This new focus on "stomping" or "stepping" is really interesting to me. Plays like this can be really ambiguous. Maybe it was an accident, maybe it was on purpose. When you spend your life on skates, you can make anything look like an accident, so who knows? I just don't know what to say. I don't think any of these yet claimed stomps this year (Simon, Pronger, Tootoo) have been near as awful as people are making them out to be though. There's a lot of hype involved I think, though at the same time, if you don't take a stand on them and down the line someone really does get seriously hurt, then you've made a bad decision. Weird issue... -
Biggest thing I took from this is that we faced adversity and a hot goalie and we found a way to stay in a low scoring game and win. That's why this is a different team than those years we went out early.
-
No way. We might not go to the playoffs, but sub-.500? No.
-
Despite the lack of games, it's still interesting who's at the top of the playoff stats for GAA and sv%...for a chuckle at least... http://www.nhl.com/nhlstats/app?component=...;service=direct http://www.nhl.com/nhlstats/app?component=...;service=direct

Yes, and it's a smart radio decision because people get stirred up by it. I was listening on my way home as well and he was going off about all his predictions and it was just blatantly obvious that he was stirring the pot/being excessively negative, but you've gotta stop and realize that that's his job. Pistons swept in first round and Tigers below .500??? I mean, sure, piss and moan about what he said about Osgood, but those other two comments deserve far more of a reaction. He knows what he's doing.
-
I've just gotta say, taking nothing away from Osgood or Franzen, but how do you give anyone but Ellis the first star? He's the only reason that game wasn't a 6-0 romp.
-
He did everything that you could reasonably ask him to do. That's a big step in the right direction. I think he's earned another game as the man.
-
It makes for good radio, but that's about as far as it goes. I would've loved to see a save and a big part of me says "make that save" with less than a minute left up 1-0. But you look at the play and the rest of the game and you can't get too pissed about it. Oh, and I have to agree with the majority here, I pay little mind to anything Drew Sharp ever has to say.

If Dom doesn't play anymore and we keep going with Osgood and we still manage to win the Cup, I think it'll still be a great way for Hasek to go out. It might not be the best way, but you can't complain. He's there. He's still a part of it and he still helped get there any way you shake it. Everyone wants to start and it's always going to be a little bittersweet to be the backup hoisting the Cup, but you're going to have to hand it to him for getting this far if it should come to that. He'll deserve one hell of an applause if only for everything he has done in his career. I've said all along that I'm hardly the biggest Hasek fan and I don't think he should be starting and I think this is the right move, but you owe a guy like Hasek who's done as much as he has a long and profound ovation no matter how this thing ends. Whoever starts, I really hope they find a way to get the Cup in his hands before he officially says goodbye.

Perfect. I have no beef with this. It's good to hear and no, I did not see this. But this is exactly where he should be. I'd rather him be expressing that he's upset about not playing b/c he's hungry to play so he's motivated. That is, so long as he does so in a constructive and supportive manner which he absolutely did here. He couldn't have handled it better today.

Like I said, on a human level, I can totally understand it and appreciate it. But in the professional world, you've gotta man up and just keep moving forward no matter what if you want to instill any confidence in people. Sometimes that means giving a canned answer. "I can play better. I need to put this behind me, keep working hard and be ready." That's all that needs to be said. Besides the fact that it's the truth, it's just the best thing to say. Again, he's a professional. This is his job. Part of the job is playing this sort of game with words especially in a team game like hockey. And again, half the reason I wish he never said it was so it would be easier to build him up more! I don't even feel he's stating the obvious. I've said innumerable times now that we need a change, we all know that, but I don't think he's totally sucked at all. He hasn't had a ton of defensive help and not every goal was a horrible one to give up. But you start saying things like "this is the worst hockey I've played in my career" and you frame the play in an infinitely more negative light than before. Like I said, he's still got a Winged wheel on his jersey and we might need him. Comments like that don't allow much room for enthusiasm let alone confidence. Comments like that amplify the beating because they end up just getting repeated just like that comment which you see in numerous articles going around right now. Again, if you don't want him to be beat to death with the obvious, you should be far more upset about this than I am.

No, it doesn't. It doesn't serve anyone well. The same logic has applied to everyone in the past so why not Hasek? When Legace did it with us, everyone called it unprofessional because it was. That's what you say to your friends when you need to vent, not in the locker room and to the press. This is their job. If you work for any given company and you start speaking up in the workplace and to the media about how much you suck at your job right now, do you think it'd be tolerated or reflect well on the whole? No. It'd be considered unprofessional. It's human to feel that way and you need avenues where you can vent those thoughts, but the media especially is the last place to do it. And again, I only bring this up because it's not over and like I said, we may have to go back to him if something comes up. Comments like that just make it harder to have confidence in him. I've defended him as much as is reasonable all things considered, but I'm still going to call it how it is. It's fine to feel that way for a time and to talk it out within a trusted circle, but it's not cool at all to vent that stuff to the media. You of all people should be far more upset about it than I am. Your guy is pretty much admitting defeat. Realistic or not, you just don't do that. Ever.
