Right on. Like it or not, it was wrong, and there should be no wiggle room in terms of that kid understanding it was wrong. It's easy to apologize to yourself and excuse things you do that might seem like they're not such a big deal. I think that's the point Yzerman's getting at if the quote is indeed his. This type of behavior is simply not acceptable. It's a completely reasonable answer and suggestion and it's not antagonistic whatsoever.

I think this is a lot more likely to happen than some think. It may be a longshot, but I don't think the idea is dead in the water. We'll know better in a couple of weeks.

I don't like him because he's too cocky for his own good considering he's never been able to do anything but play utterly and completely terrible hockey when it counts and furthermore, he's got explosive diarrhea of the mouth. He's one of the few people I truly dislike that have come through Detroit.

Thus far, atrocious on so many levels. Oh well. It's the All Star game.

Detroit looking to reward Babcock with long-term deal
gcom007 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I'm a huge advocate of Babcock sticking around for a long, long time. I've been saying it now for awhile. He just seems like the coach of the Red Wings. It's hard to explain how I feel about it past the obvious statistical reasons and whatnot. It's an intuition thing. He belongs behind the Wings bench. I couldn't be happier to hear this and it'll be great once it absolutely comes to its fruition. -
I've got a bad feeling that this things going to be tied pretty quick...
-
Doh! Why'd he have to score?!
-
There's the money shot.

If this game keeps up like this, it's gonna be a good one. IF the refs settle it down, it'll be a letdown after this.

Stop being objective and rational!

Nice turtle action at the end there Cleary...
-
What is Cleary doing?!?!?!

I'm not totally trying to defend Bertuzzi, but he was skating into that lane when it was clear and then Hasek came out. I don't think it was quite so intentional or vicious as the announcers were making it.

Nice. "I blame it on my hair." -Chris Osgood Wow. Wonders never cease.
-
I thought he'd have another rough game before he shook it. Guess not. Granted, we are playing Los Angeles...
-
It'll either be one more stinker (before he turns it up again...) or a great game from Ozzie. I think the Wings will win either way.
-
Babcock is always ambiguous about this goalie stuff. He said the same thing he says after just about every game. People need to chill. Osgood will still get his starts for awhile. Stop reading so much into this crap. And remember, Hasek lost his last game too. The team as a whole is sucking right now.

Y'all know I'm an Ozzie supporter. Simple enough. That said, I wasn't surprised by the last game that didn't go so well and I speculated that he'd probably have another rough game or two. Why? Well, no one's perfect. He was bound to have a rough streak at some point and given all that's gone on, it just doesn't surprise me that that time has come now and I won't be surprised if his next start is a rough one. What will surprise me is if he doesn't have a standout game that kicks up a new streak of great, steady play right after that. He's fallible. It happens and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he mentally lost a bit of focus with the All Star game, the attention, the contracts, the overall absurd play of the team and his outstanding year thus far. I think it's almost inevitable that he'd take a few things for granted for a short while and then get his head on straight. You know he's not going to be happy with this and he's got a lot of pride so definitely look for him to get it going again after another game or so. Only other possibility is a mild injury that we or maybe even he doesn't know about.
-
This could get interesting. I could see him coming, but if he goes to someone like Ottawa, I could see that putting more pressure on the Wings to go after Sundin.
-
Sounds like it was a good game for me to miss...sounds like the whole team was off from what I can gather and it's not like Ozzie wasn't bound to have a rough start at some point. He's human. I like the guy, but you can't expect him to always be perfect. I think it's good timing honestly. He just had everything go right off the ice you might say but on the ice where it matters things hit the wall apparently a bit. It'll keep him on his toes. Even when you've played as great as he has this year, it's so easy to slip if you're not careful and sometimes you need bad games to remind you of how quickly the tides can turn. He'll put in the work and stay tough though and come back strong. I wouldn't be surprised to see another off game or two first though.

Legace over Leclaire is the biggest load of bunk ever unless they know something we don't.

Why don't you snoop into our PM's to get a better understanding of my distaste with the matter. If you're a rational human being, I don't think you'd disagree with my perspective. And I'm very sorry that in the past I hijacked a typical incredibly eloquent and expansively brilliant GDT during a rather boring game in order to engage in civil and intelligent discussion on a discussion board. I shouldn't have gotten in the way of 30 posts in a row of "WHAT A CHECK!!!" with any other civil discussion. How stupid of me.

Last time that happened in the regular season was record setting 95/96 year and then they beat us in the semi's...granted, it was the last time we played them in the season and maybe even the last game in the season, but none the less, why don't we aim for 6-0 instead?

Skipping Hasek's October, he still isn't putting up as strong of numbers as Osgood. This is just factually wrong. He's not putting up bad numbers, but they're simply not as strong as Osgood's. Look at Osgood's record. Look at the GAA. Look at the SV%. Look at how many games Osgood's had where he's let in more than 2 goals against good and bad teams. There's no comparison. It doesn't make Hasek's numbers bad, but it does make them below Osgood's any way you shake it. Furthermore, skipping stats, Osgood's still been the better goalie. Hasek's played more than well enough to win and turned in some excellent efforts but has also left in quite a few notable soft goals and had games where really the best you can say is that he played well enough to win. I ain't hatin', just saying... Meanwhile, no one can really say that Osgood has had a single solitary bad game all year. You can't expect a goalie to be perfect, but Osgood has performed his duty about as flawlessly as can be reasonably expected. You simply can't argue with that. He can't really do anything better. The numbers and record substantiate this claim. Even when looking at his two losses you have one where he was coming back probably too early from being sick with the flu and another game where the team was completely outplayed and the tying goal to send it to OT and an eventual shootout loss shouldn't have even been allowed. Again, he's played as flawlessly as can be reasonably expected. You absolutely, without a doubt cannot say that about Hasek nomatter how many months you skip over. Well, maybe if you skip over October-December and just count his last start you can say it. Again, I'm not saying he's played bad. He's played far better and quite well since shaking what has come to be known as his "slump," but he still has not performed at the same level as Osgood has all year any way you shake it. So to the topic at hand? I could see a tandem through the first two rounds but after that someone should be the starter unless things hit the wall sooner or we go 8-0 maybe. But that's just the only way I could possibly see it happening. By that I mean, I don't think it's realistic. If the season ends today, skipping bias you have Osgood starting but unfortunately, that's not realistic so Hasek would start. Yes, his name matters. Get over it. At this point, I don't think either one would hurt or help us more than the other as in most nights they play well enough to win and what tends to make us or break us in the playoffs always tends to be our skaters. We've had perfect playoff goaltending and we still lost early when our skaters didn't do anything else.
-
And besides the win, this game will pad Osgood's stats even more. It'd be crazy if he could pull ahead in the SV% department too. It's bound to be closer but I think he'll be a .931 or .932 now after today? GAA down more as well. Crazy...who would've thought?
