If Mrazek comes out of these playoffs looking like the starter next year, which is entirely possible, Howard could request to be moved too. And who could blame him? He doesn't have too many prime years left at 31. I don't think he's going to want to give in to being the backup at this point. This is another reason I wasn't wholly thrilled with the idea of going with Mrazek this year. I like Mrazek and get why it's going that way, but unless the whole team has a big turnaround, I don't know how far we'll go. If it also pisses off Howard enough to want out, there goes Mrazek's chance to have a more gradual transition to becoming an NHL starter. Granted, if Mrazek kills it in the playoffs and proves to be ready and things are only up from here, I guess it's not the biggest deal. But we'll see...

I was so impressed with Glendening's work ethic tonight. He never made it easy for Tampa and for him to get that game winning goal is just the icing on the cake. He's really become an incredibly important part of this young Red Wings team.

I don't think we played well, but I don't think we played nearly as poorly as some suggested, particularly on defense. I think/hope we'll see a much better effort in game 2.

Only thing that makes me feel better about this win is that they know what's coming after last year. Tampa is going to keep pushing, and Detroit has to come back and be a lot better next game.

Rough. And from what I remember from earlier in the thread, it was suggested that this was his 10th concussion. No matter what anyone thinks of him as a player, it's impossible not to feel for him as a person. I, luckily, can't even imagine how hard this must be on him. Given how bad this one seems to have been and how many he's had, you really wonder if it wouldn't be best for him to hang them up. I'd honestly be fine with him coming back, and generally have had no agenda against him, but I wouldn't blame him at all for riding off into a Pronger-esque retirement. There are things more important than hockey. If one could guarantee that he'd never get another concussion, it'd be one thing, but that's simply not possible, and there are bigger things in life than hockey.

Some real good games on night 1 of the playoffs. Chicago proving once again why you can't quite count them out as much as you might want to or it might seem a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Nashville's going to have the momentum coming into 2nd OT after that kill though.

I honestly don't blame him. I'd be livid too. That was one of the worst calls I've seen in a long time, and to come in the playoffs? Absurd.
