I think Holland’s biggest fault was he was here too long; he got sentimental. I’m sure ownership pushed their agendas, but I don’t think Holland fought it. You look at the signings as time went on, it’s clear his heart and head were at battle. It scares me a little to wonder what Holland might do without all the history and sentiment to cloud his judgment. I honestly think he’ll be great in Edmonton.

Carolina gave that game away with two stupid and unnecessary penalties. At least they know they can skate with these guys now. Two days to get yelled at and hopefully a more disciplined effort and win Sunday. And I really can’t stand Boston.

Canes have to be happy with that first. Looked a little slow at the start but picked it up by the end of the period.

Big news day on the Datsyuk front today: https://www.vgr.com/pavel-datsyuk-return-to-nhl-19-teased-ea-asks-for-updated-player-rating/

The interviewer was kinda a dick to him last year and he didn’t take kindly. I’m guessing it goes back to that.

Those two get on great. Such palpable and dynamic energy.

So is this official-official or still out-there-official? I can’t seem to find any recent updates...

I wish nothing good for the Bruins and hope they fall apart and become endlessly frustrated. I think it’ll be a tougher series for the Hurricanes than the Isles, but I think they’ll be in better shape with some time for injuries and aches to subside some. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

Wow, didn’t think he’d jet so quick. Thought Seattle was a possibility in time but this is surprising. Honestly sad to see him go. I think him stepping away as GM was for the best, but he’s been an important part of the organization for so long. He had his ups and downs, what can we say? Frustrating as he has been at times the last few years, it’s really ******* weird to think of him as a part of another organization, especially Edmonton. Very strange indeed... So maybe the best compliment I can give him, end of the day, is there aren’t many in this organization that seem to be “Red Wings” at the core like Holland. It’s going to be like seeing Steve working for Tampa. I get it, but it doesn’t feel right.

I would’ve traded Howard and given Mrazek more rope. I’d bet on talent at this stage in the Wings progression as a team. Goaltending is the least of their problems most nights, but Holland was nostalgic and wouldn’t deal Howard and I do think that played a big part in the goaltending issues here with Mrazek. You might not like or respect it, but goalies are funny and that is what it is. I get it. But if you ask me, I think had we traded Howard and given Mrazek a legit fair shot at number one without the tension and bulls***, we’re not talking about this right now.

Mrazek let in 1 goal in this series and singlehandedly won the first game with an OT shutout win when the team in front of him was completely gassed. I think that game was pivotal as well as again, he had no team in front of him and had to set the stage for the series on his own. He was solid in game 2 before injury as well. Not taking away anything from McElhinney whatsoever, but Mrazek’s playoffs have been stellar by any objective measure. The Hurricanes have a great duo in net any way you shake it and they both play a big part in the team’s success. And no team can come close to matching the dollar value on what they’re getting out of these guys.

Destiny is upon us. I have brought the positive hockey energy to NC for the time being. I’m sharing it until next year. Onwards and up!

...intangibles........ sadness.

I’m being very serious.

Karlsson and Panarin too. Datsyuk’s here to recruit.

Fake news lol

They hold the rights but I have little doubt they’d kick up any fuss about releasing those rights under the circumstances. Barely a point worth talking about.

$3 million with incentives

I’ll be very surprised if Larkin isn’t named Captain before the season. I doubt Dats even gets/wants an A if he comes back. He’s never had much of an ego on that front and is more of a lead by example type.

As someone who just espoused endlessly to a friend about the glory and grandeur of Ovechkin as the greatest since Howe and how he is on the level of the holiest of holy of Howe, Gretzky, and now Ovechkin with Bobby Orr hanging off the edge by a hand, I get it. I like the Caps too. Maybe it helps that I’m local, but it’s still fun hockey. Edge of my damn seat. Alan Jackson says “We’re having a GOOD TIME!”

Oh yeah, I’m sure he’s oblivious to the state of the current game and is cruising for IR. Come on. Especially a guy like Datsyuk. You think he doesn’t know the game like we could only dream of knowing anything? If he comes back to the Wings/NHL, this won’t be a matter we’ll be discussing.

I’ll dismiss the uniform thing; at this point, can we Iverson up and talk about the game? I wish the team would move to Charlotte. Living in Charlotte now about 5 years in, I meet primarily northerners, countless of which who know and love hockey. I think the Hurricanes would be a much bigger team in the Charlotte market. We embrace the Checkers! In any event, the teams on the ice are making for a lot of fun hockey. Who cares about the markets? Are the games exciting? Has it been fun watching the arc of this series play out? Yes. The goalies basically stole the first two games for a tired bunch of skaters and tonight when the skaters needed to, they showed up and looked like a different team. This team is finding a way on all fronts. It’s fun to watch. They can wear completely hideous jerseys with five fonts for all I care, this is fun.

I topped the Abby thread for this reason. I think everyone at the time was at worst shrugging their shoulders. No one really liked the term as it came out. In my defense (lol), I did post before actual terms were announced. I don’t think the money is or was as bad as the term. It looks worse now, but it’s ludicrous to suggest that at the time, the money wasn’t reasonable and absolutely indicative of what Abdelkader was worth on the open market.
