I believe Yzerguy came back to Det in 2019 right after TB lost in R1. TB then went to 3 finals in a row as the Wings bottomed out with a big thud with resounding draft luck!! TB has lost in R1 last 2 years so some cracks might be showing in their core etc. Dependent on what's in the cupboard will determine how fast they comeback. Might be a Boston type situation where they plug holes with younger guys who learn the culture while the older guys phase out. After the 2009 finals lose we should have started to manage picks better and we could have probably avoided this playoff drought. Saying "We made the playoffs 25 years in a row" gets me a "shut up and sit down old man" comment from fans of other teams. But then again we could be the Sabres or Leafs so I take comfort in that thought.

IF our older bad defense cant be taught a new trick by now i.e. clear the zone. I would prefer to have younger guys learn as they have more runway to correct said mistakes.

I have to agree with you despite the pain in doing so(still smarting over my potential divorce with Kane) I think the Bruins have a very strong leader in Marchand who learned with Bergeron like we used to have here. I am guessing if you step out of line he isn't afraid to correct your course. Yzerguy for 20 years taught what it was to be a Wing. Who would dare not give full effort when you watched him play through injuries etc. You were corrected if you didn't do it the "Red Wing Way" to Nick for 6 years team still strong still same culture to Hank for 6 years team starting to tilt down and not a lot of young blood coming in to learn the "Red Wing Way" imports(FA) more than folks driving down 96 from GR. to Larkin for the last 4 years team in garbage can needing to relearn the way hence the Perons/Kanes etc to mentor Larkin and teach the young ones coming up Has Larkin become a Marchand kind of presence now? He has had a glimpse on what is needed can he force the team to comply? He seemed IMHO to grow this year.
