So apparently to post a valid opinion on a message board we need to provide a CV that includes playing time beyond the junior level. Someone had best tell Ken Hitchcock he has no business coaching in the NHL then, since he didn't play the game at even so much as the junior level. That Stanley Cup winning, Olympic gold winning coach is such a fake assed poser. Man he never even played junior hockey. What an unqualified bum. I'm glad to know his opinion would have no standing here on LGW. Phew And for those who feel posts need "sources" as if they're college essays: http://www.thescore.com/news/628753

trade Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars
mackel replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Two prospects that were buried behind better prospects here, for a guy who can help us this year and perhaps beyond if signed. The prospects get a more reasonable shot a making the show, we add some size and grit. Looks win-win to me. -
It is aweful. And quite arbitrary... Luckily few people are using it, which speaks to it's quality as a nickname.
-
By Diesel do you mean Kevin Nash? Cause thats a horrible nickname that I really hope doesn't catch on.
-
Me too... I think Tatar is a guy who we and management severely under rate. And since many of our younger players are held down in the minors I don't have a problem with them wanting to get paid once they finally get promoted. For many of them their NHL careers are 1-2 seasons shorter than they would be with any other organization.

Is anyone really surprised? We all knew this was coming, Cleary was a waste of a roster spot for just the past 2 seasons. The Red Wings loyalty rewards program clearly states you must be a waste of a roster spot for a minimum of 3 seasons before the Wings will consider not resigning you. -
So.... What are our UFA options a year from now?

signed Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV
mackel replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
That's a waste of a roster spot. And 4.25 of cap space, but since nobody worth signing wants to come here the cap space is irrelevant. -
Quincey. 2yr. 4.25 per Was just mentioned on tsn that's hockey.

Quincey signed 4.25 2yrs

I really hope this spurs KH to offer sheet Subban. Make the deal as rich and unmatchable as you can. It's not like their are any negatives to doing so, nobody will sign with us and nobody will trade fairly with us now anyway.
-
So we're going to follow up last years bad decision to "pry" Cleary away from that supposed 3 year deal in Philly, by rewarding him with even a chance to play again. If management feels they owe him something due to that verbal agreement, offer him a job selling hot dogs, scrubbing the urinals, polishing the statues, getting coffee. You know something his is capable of doing, cause hockey has passed him by!

**LIKE** The only change I'd make to your analysis is that we need more Canadians on the team. The primary make up of the team presently are soft skilled euros and 3rd/4th liners from in and around Michigan.
-
GMs don't use this option very often, my point is to get a player of that caliber... our GM should strongly consider doing it. No matter what consequences you can dream up.
-
Have the Flyers had a retaliatory offer sheet sent to a player? No, didn't think so. Sincerely, Arm Chair GM
-
The logic of using an offersheet is sound... if someone tries to punish you by overpaying a player don't match... take the draft picks and laugh at them for being cap strapped.
-
They could do that yes, but they would then have good players signed for more than they're worth... While we'd have a superstar signed to top end money.
-
He is an RFA this summer.
-
What we really need is a top end defenceman... Kronner is a solid #2, or a fantastic #3... What he isn't is a #1 d-man. I know I'll get slammed for this BUT... I think the Wings should fire an offer sheet off to PK Subban. Max money, max years with as many poision pills as Montreal can swallow. If nothing else it will "cost" a division rival some cash.

What seems to get lost when people look at the stat lines on the back of these players hockey cards is the context of the production. Hossa is a game breaker, he can and often does for Chicago have a great shift... Make something happen, ie score, setup a goal, hold the puck down low, play hard defensively etc. Franzen, he floats, gives the puck away, won't throw the body, and puts up points in bunches... Especially when a game is effectively either already won or lost. Bottom line I'd rather have Hossa get a goal in a tight game than have Franzen who scores a goal to make the score 5-2 in a loss.
