The scary part is the Hawks don't have Hossa or Sharp.
-
With him gone you can see how much the Hawks are able to key in on Dats. He's the only other real threat, other than the rare time Franzen feels like it.
-
Cleary has been digging pucks out of the corner all game and winning board battles, then going to the front of the net. Sammy... yeah...
-
Olczyk is actually making sense this morning. Franzen needs to carry the puck to the net and shoot, not give it back to Datsyuk when he's at the end of his shift.
-
One of the few good things about Sammy is he annoys the other team as much as he does Wings fans.

signed Wings sign D Dan DeKeyser to 2-year deal
haroldsnepsts replied to Serratoni's topic in General
Agreed. It's great to see Kindl finally holding a roster spot, but he and Lashoff are basically playing #5/6 d-man minutes. Lashoff being the defensive D man who plays on the PK while Kindl plays on the PP. As you mention, Smith has only played 37 games in the NHL (14 were from last season) and while he's certainly had his mistakes, he's already playing a bigger role than Kindl. Smith plays more minutes, plays on the PK and on the PP. There will be growing pains, but there's absolutely a lot more upside with Smith. It's too bad that White has faltered because with all these fairly young guys on D, what the Wings are missing is a seasoned vet to stabilize things out there. -
Honestly of two minds about Iginla. I'd want him on the Wings and believe he's a class act off the ice but I wouldn't really call him one on it. The guy has a ton of heart and is a great player, but more than once when Calgary is losing I've watched him skate around cheapshotting Wings players trying to engage them in a fight. And it's usually top end guys who dont' fight. When someone chases Mattheiu Schneider the length of the rink towards the end of the game, repeatedly crosschecking him in the back wanting to fight him, I have a hard time calling that player a class act.

Crosby left the game after puck to the face
haroldsnepsts replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
First of all, I can't think of a time when plenty of people came here to laugh at injured Red Wings players. Especially if they were from another team, they wouldn't last long.Regardless, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but the tone of the thread title was more likely to steer the thread in a non-productive direction so i just removed the end. Within it, people can talk about whatever they want as long as it's relevant to the topic. (And in the interest of not derailing the thread any further, if anyone wants to discuss my editing the title, feel free to PM me) -

Edited the thread title to be less obnoxious. I understand not liking Crosby, but celebrating that he got hit in the face with the puck is lame. -
It's beyond the media just trying to one up one another and reporting something unconfirmed. For half the day the Bruins GM thought he had a deal too.

Trade Huskins to Flyers for conditional 7th rd pick (2014)

Philadelphia Flyers @NHLFlyers 10m TRADE ALERT: #Flyers have acquired (D) Kent Huskins from Detroit in exchange for a conditional 2014 draft pick. MORE http://bit.ly/9UNv1R Retweeted by Darren Dreger -
It's still not fact. It's speculation. Informed opinion at best. Still not fact.
-
Agreed. There was a disconnect somewhere and it seems like it was from Iginla. Either Calgary knowingly misrepresented Iginla's wishes or he changed his mind or something. But it's bad form out of Calgary for sure. Boston thought they had a deal, not just for minutes but for at least half a day.

I edited the OP. If you want the thread to stay here and not get moved to Between Periods, it needs to stay that way and stay on topic.
-
Agreed. If you asked fans across the NHL who was the biggest clown/d-bag in the league, Kane would be a frontrunner. There's plenty of young guys in the NHL, but he still manages to stand out as one of the the biggest idiots.

Do you think griping about griping is going to change anything ? Everyone stay on topic and stop complaining at the person making the post, analyzing their level of fandom, telling them whether they're complaining too much or not. There's been too much of all of it here lately and I'm getting an itchy suspension finger.

Matt, who pays for the considerable financial costs to run this site out of his own pocket, doesn't want to risk even the off chance he'd be exposed legally by people here be discussing illegal streaming/pirating services. Hence it is against forum rules to discuss it openly in threads. Is there a problem with that? Or did you just forget how to spell temporarily? · DON'T post links to torrent or illegal streaming websites. Let's keep the discussion on topic about Iginla and the Pens and not about each other.

Not really a surprise, but for those feeling like the Wings have had terrible injury problems this year, it's not unfounded. Florida is 2nd, then Ottawa. I figured the Wings would be near the top but not actually in first. Here's the full list. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/red-wings-sens-lead-nhl-in-games-lost-to-injury/article10447942/

For those interested, this is a pretty good blog I ran across. He's an ex hockey player (I think played some level of pro) who breaks down the nuts and bolts of hockey strategy, often in hilarious fashion. http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/category/systems-analyst/ He seems to cover Eastern teams more than West, but it's still a great read. Here's an old play breakdown he did on a Datsyuk goal. http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2012/03/28/systems-analyst-if-you-have-an-assigned-check-just-hanging-out-near-him-isnt-good-enough/#more-49256 (to be clear, I have no affiliation with this blog. I just thought it was cool)

Clearly one of his favorite team's players kept showing up too much as fake toughest or clown
-
Agreed. As much as I liked the guy as a player compared to Mac, Murph is articulate and polished.
-
Based on what? I honestly don't know much about Burmistrov but haven't read anything of that sort. Sounds like it's lack of production generally and then a lot of speculation as to what exactly the problem is between him and his coach. Plus he's 21 years old and been in the league 2 years. There's plenty of room for the kid to grow.

Semin re-signs with Carolina: 5 years, $35 million ($7M/yr)

exactly. If every signing is overpayment, then it's not actually overpaying. It just means that's what the free agent market costs. -

I haven't really watched Carolina this season but from what I've heard he's been big for them this year. Leading all forwards in minutes, playing well on the PP. 8 goals and 30 points in 30 games. I think this year was the biggest risk, but getting him out of Washington seems to have done wonders. For whatever reason it sounds like that lockerroom turned on him. Funny how a lot of the things he was chastised for are now happening with other players on the Caps. *cough* AO *cough*
