Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
haroldsnepsts replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I think that's usually what a modified NTC is, supplying a limited list of teams you'd go to. But like I said, not sure about Weiss specifically. -
Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
haroldsnepsts replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
This is Kenny "NTC" Holland we're talking about here. Practically everyone on the Wings has one (except of course the captain). Weiss has a No Move Clause, and a modified NTC according to capgeek.com, but I don't know what the specifics of the NTC are. -
Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings
haroldsnepsts replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
I thought Yzerman said Marty had approached him about a trade before the whole Olympics thing? I don't have a firsthand source on it though. And even then, who knows it it's Stevie covering for him. -
NHL reverses part of penalty to Devils for Kovalchuk cap circumvention
haroldsnepsts posted a topic in General
I can understand other teams being pissed. This sure does look like cutting new ownership a break on a struggling franchise. It took me a second to figure out what Dreger's saying on the last one but I think he means teams are upset that teams who made good contracts under the old CBA are now punished under the new one, while a team that circumvented the cap under the old CBA is now getting let off the hook. -
come again? That is a considerable stretch to put it mildly. In 2009 in looked like the Wings had the Cup pretty well in hand and we all know how that ended.

Every single one of the points made in the OP could be discussed in an existing topic.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
haroldsnepsts replied to gcom007's topic in General
I don't think Eaves is mediocre. He's a good bottom six player. But the Wings have a very similar player in Miller and Eaves contract is up at the end of the season. It's just that it wasn't surprising of a move, and should allow him to play more in Nashville than he would have in Detroit. In terms of what the Wings gave up though I do agree he's being somewhat overlooked. They gave up a decent roster player, a prospect, and potentially a 2nd rounder for what could be a 20 game rental. -

To reiterate, if your posts contain statements about whining, bitching or complaining, I wouldn't get too attached to them because they will not be in the thread for very long. Last warning. -

To be fair, we dont' know if that's actually true. -

Discuss the topic at hand please. Any posts that contain personal attacks or rants about spoiled Wings fans will be deleted and people will start getting suspensions. Talk about the trade, not each other. -

what? That scrub has more points than anyone on the Wings not named Zetterberg. And it's not like he's got a ton of help in Nashville. -

haroldsnepsts replied to gcom007's topic in General
I think a big factor on whether this was a terrible move or not hinges on where Legwand re-signs in the offseason. I think people generally overrate our prospects here, but if this really is just a 20 game rental then Holland sure gave up a lot. -

When you guys are stating trades, please post a link to a legit source. If you heard on tv or radio, mention that there so people can at least make their own judgment as to the reliability of the source.

I can see that. Though honestly I care a lot more about deals that would potentially help the team for a few seasons, even if it means missing the playoffs this year.
-
I don't think those are fair questions. 1) The result another team got in no way indicates what would have happened with the Wings, good or bad, if they made that deal. 2) This is impossible to know. I criticize Holland not so much for specific deals he's missed out on, but the moves (and lack thereof) that he has made over the last few years. I assume Holland is working his ass off and on the phone trying to put deals together. But so what. That's his job. What counts for a GM is the deals you actually make, not how close you came to a good one. He painted himself into a corner with Lidstrom retiring so he even had to participate in the Suter sweepstakes. Lidstrom retiring was a known issue. Stuart back to California was a known issue. The Samuelsson and Tootoo signings were both awful. Giving up a first to bring in Quincey. Not getting anything back on players he developed like Flip and Hudler. Re-signging Cleary and pinning himself against the cap and roster limitations so good players rot in the minors. Holland has had a lot of success as GM. He's been the master at tweaking a great team to keep it going, but he has done little to show he can successfully "rebuild on the fly."

Legwand is on the last year of his contract right? So he'd be a rental?

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 6m LA Kings have acquired Marian Gaborik _ still pending trade call however Sounds like it's for Frattin and 2 picks. If he stays healthy he can provide the Kings some much needed offense headed into the playoffs.

Well, the Norris doesn't mean you actually have to be good at defense anymore (also see: Karlsson). Otherwise Weber would have one. Knowing Babs defense first mentality, it's not surprising Subban would be sitting in an elimination tournament. But he's more dynamic than anyone on the Wings blueline. The hope is that he would mature and buy into the system while retaining his better qualities. But there's definitely the risk that after a few big mistakes he'd be in Babcock's doghouse for good. Babs would have to buy into the whole thing as much as anyone.
