He's saving up for a 20-goal outburst against the Habs in Game 7 of the 2020 ECF. -
Sounds like a beast... http://www.mynhldraft.com/2020-nhl-draft/player-profiles/Yaroslav-Askarov this friggin draft man

Was looking at his numbers the other day. His first two CHL seasons? Right in line with McDavid's. I'm not even trying to HYPE! him. I'm saying his production is literally right there with McDavid's. McDavid: 2012-13 regular season: 1.05 PPG (63 GP) 2013-14 regular season: 1.77 PPG (56 GP) 2013-14 playoffs: 1.36 PPG (14 GP) Lafreniere: 2017-18 regular season: 1.33 PPG (60 GP) 2018-19 regular season: 1.72 PPG (61 GP) 2018-19 playoffs: 1.77 PPG (13 GP) That's, uh...that's pretty impressive. Right? Is my math wrong?

If we're gonna suck this season, I definitely hope we pick in the top 3. ...On the other hand, it's looking like the top of this draft class is crazy-good. As in, like, there could be multiple A.Svechnikov/Kakko-tier players available in the top 10. Anton Lundell -- who, again, Button has at 9 -- was a 0.5 PPG player in 38 games in the Liiga last season. Kaapo Kakko played 6 games in the Liiga in his "draft minus one" season and put up one assist. Now, I'm not saying Lundell is as good as Kakko. I'm just saying, y'know, those are pretty good numbers for a guy who most people seem to be ranking outside of their top 3. tl;dr hold on to your butts

I've been wondering if it wouldn't be worth it. If Askarov is as good as everyone says he is, that's a franchise gamechanger for us. All of a sudden our myriad perceived shortcomings become less of a problem. We can be like the Habs and run Christoffer Ehn as our 1C and still make the playoffs. Quite a gamble tho.

>Raymond at 4 >Byfield at 6 >Holtz at 7 >Lundell at 9 What I'm getting from this is we need two picks in the top 10.

Just saw you'd already made a GDT. Sorry, dude. We can use yours if you want! Also, whomst the actual eff are these Stars players? I recognize exactly one name on that roster. -

Yup. The reality is there's a ton of stuff that's up in the air and it makes projecting any distance into the future pretty pointless. Feels like we're close to getting a much better sense of what we have, but until stuff actually plays out...we're basically blind. Guess my original point was just that, in theory, our forward group is pretty close to being pretty alright. Add Lafreniere/Byfield/Raymond/Holtz to our forward group and we can feel pretty good about our scoring depth. Do the Rangers thing and supplement that high pick with a big addition or two (Kakko --> Trouba, Panarin) and maybe we can start talking about playoffs as early as 2020-21. Defense looks like it's gonna be rough for a while. I'm really high on Hronek and Seider tho. Hopefully Hronek + Seider + Cholowski + McIsaac turns out to be all we need, give or take a trade or UFA signing. YOU KISS YOUR MUDDA WITH THAT MOUTH? -

Would love to see him become a legit NHL centerman, but I think I'm hoping for a Franzen-type power winger who can play in the middle if absolutely necessary. -

I'm assuming Veleno spends most of 2019-20 in the AHL and then breaks into the NHL as a winger and then needs some time to adjust to the rigors of being an NHL centerman. At which point Schenn's probably starting to decline and maybe Veleno can bump him down to 3C. Each of Larkin, Schenn, Veleno can play wing, so there's some flexibility there. I'm not sold on Rasmussen being a full-time pivot, but time will tell. -

What if next summer if we draft a gamebreaking winger -- let's say Lucas Raymond -- and then pry Brayden Schenn away from STL in free agency? Center core becomes Larkin, Schenn, Veleno. Top-9 winger group becomes Athanasiou, Bertuzzi, Mantha, Raymond, Zadina, [insert forward of choice]. Maybe at that point you trade a winger for a defenseman, or maybe you stand pat with the defense. Either way, that forward group could be pretty filthy. In goal, sign Jacob Markstrom. Markstrom-Larsson tandem. -

Zadina's put up four points -- all assists -- through the first two games of the tournament. Speaking of Zadina... goals af
