Oh, yeah, I definitely think Veleno has the potential to be much better than either of those two players. Maybe I should've said "conservative projection" instead of "realistic projection."

I see Hronek as the big x factor. If he's truly a 23-points-in-46-games player right now (i.e. 40+ points in a full season), that could be huge. Classic redemption arch starts now.

It's why I use "Nielsen/Filppula" as a realistic projection for Veleno. In any case, I'm ok with having both players on the team.

I mean, we're gonna "try real hard" and all that good stuff. But, yeah. This team is bad and everyone knows it and there's nothing Yzerman can do to truly change that at the present moment. I wouldn't rule out a postseason berth tho. This frking league is nutty enough that it's entirely possible we get monster seasons from two or three young guys and that's all we need to squeak into the playoffs (and get stomped by a Florida team).

So...does Flip still play center? If so, is it safe to assume the AA-at-center experiment is over? Or does Flip move to the wing? Or do we treat AA and Flip as neither firmly center nor firmly winger? Is Nielsen our 2C or our 3C?

Yzerman's pretty much doing what he did when he first took over as Tampa's GM. A few cheap veteran signings. Not surprising at all, imo. Probably a minor trade or two before training camp.

The Coyotes of this past season were so bad at scoring goals it almost beggars belief; they need a Kessel in the worst way. So I have to imagine 'yotes fans are feeling pretty good right now. And, y'know what, good for them. The true believers of that franchise's fan base are some pretty decent masochists folks who've suffered through endless losing and shameless chicanery and deserve a little love from the hockey gods, especially after losing hometown boy Auston Matthews to frking Tronna. All of that being said...it's low-key hilarious to me that the 'yotes are trending up just in time for relocation to the Central Division. That's happening, what, two years from now? So just as Colorado reveals its final form and lays waste to everyone. Oof. The Universe does not like the Coyotes.

Kessel scored 27 goals this season. 25 of those goals were scored against the Wings. He is a big fat phony. "Phony" Phil Kessel they call him. Disgraceful!

I dunno, I feel like talking about trading AA is putting the cart before the horse. If AA could fetch us a really good young defenseman and/or he acts like a dingus in his next contract negotiations, I think about moving him. Otherwise? meh. We're a bad team in the middle of a rebuild and Yzerman doesn't appear to have much of an appetite for trying to speed up the timeline by making some dramatic moves.
