I still can't believe we got Veleno at 30. -

Holland could be headed to Edmonton. Everyone's talking about it on the hockey twitter. Probably not gonna happen, but who knows. -
Might try to do a proper list this weekend. It's been a while since I've sat down and had a hardcore big think about this stuff. Might also do a mock draft of the first round.

Real talk: The fact that "Could Podkolzin slide out of the top five?" is even a worthwhile discussion right now is pretty great. Wings picked a pretty good year to have s*** luck in the lotto draw.
-
No. Podkolzin had a meh tournament so now he is lazy and he sucks. These are the rules.

Yzerman signs Joe Veleno to 3 year entry level contract

Ah, that makes sense. It's a shame. This is one of my all-time favorite sweaters: -
Currently, my top three (excluding Hughes and Kakko) = Byram, Turcotte, Krebs. Same as @BringBack19.
-
Assuming he's UFA...sure, one year at $5M sounds reasonable. His cap hit probably doesn't matter much, unless perhaps we're thinking of adding several significant pieces and trying to pull a Cinderella. Ideally? This: How. Dare. You. Sir.
-
I am all in on Krebs, but no one wants to hear it. Buncha Krebs-deniers up in here.
-
What's his actual status? Is he technically still under contract with Arizona? Has that contract expired, or was it suspended indefinitely while he was in Russia?

I think the logic was that there are a lot of Spanish-speaking people in Florida and Spanish-speaking people love them some soccer so let's make our sweaters look like soccer/rugby uniforms. Or something. -
I'd also be ok with that.

The Panthers have been irrelevant for so long now that it's gonna be really weird when they become really good and insufferable. What's it like having a burning hatred for the Florida Panthers? How does that work? -
Probably an overpayment, tbh. Which is why I'm not all that interested in him. But maybe Yzerman could do some Jedi mind trick s*** or something.

I assume if Gorton feels like he has a legit shot at landing Panarin and/or Karlsson, he'll make some moves. Dunno if Smith would be one of those moves, not sure what his contract situation is. Karlsson probably isn't happening, but I could definitely see Panarin smoochin' Kate Beckinsale and doing lines at the Kompromat Klub Disco. -
Bertuzzi Larkin Mantha Hirose Athanasiou Connolly Helm Datsyuk Zadina Abdelkader Nielsen Glendening de la Rose Svechnikov DeKeyser Hronek Cholowski Green Kronwall Bowey Ericsson I'd be ok with that.

You joke, but Panarin-to-NYR has been a thing for a while now. And Karlsson would probably consider it, because Rangers. And this is why the NYR meme works. Because it's true. -

I think Connolly could be a good pickup. I don't like that he didn't want to go to the White House; to me, that's not being a true team player. In that regard, I think he's a dingus. But in terms of his actual hockey stuff, he could be a low-risk, high-reward addition. FWIW, Yzerman is the one who drafted him (6th overall). Dunno if that would be a factor for either party. It's possible. Calgary might be another team worth looking at, as they have a surplus of defensemen and are in need of some scoring punch. Maybe see if we could get one of Rasmus Andersson, Oliver Kylington, Juuso Valimaki without giving up one of our top forwards. -
Well, that just strengthens the point. Larkin, AA, Datsyuk, Nielsen, Glendening (moved around the lineup as needed) is good center depth, in theory. But they'd probably just move AA back to the wing, so whatevz. Probably.
-
Personally, I'm not expecting him back. And if he does come back, I wouldn't expect much from him. This is not prime years Datsyuk. This isn't even 2015-16 Datsyuk. Milstein says his hockey sense is great, and it is, but of course Milstein's gonna say that. Datsyuk was slowing down in a noticeable way in his last season with the Wings, and that was several years ago. The league has gotten much faster since then. And we're rebuilding. Good to know there's no bad blood or hard feelings between the parties, but I'm not getting too excited. I don't think we should be too quick to abandon the AA-at-center project. If we're talking about the possibility of being able to roll Larkin, AA, Datsyuk, Nielsen as our four centermen, that's something I think could get behind. That's arguably a solid playoff-caliber group.
