Dabura replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
The hell happened to them? Did having half the team up with the Wings just completely derail their momentum? I wasn't expecting them to go all the way. The two recent championship teams were loaded with and powered by young studs. This team? Not so much. But, still. What a late-season collapse. -
Bon Jovi is lazy and he sucks.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
Dabura replied to Dabura's topic in General
I think waiting for free agency makes the most sense, but I also think there's a decent chance he agrees to a sign-and-trade. And even if there's no sign-and-trade and he makes it to free agency, there's no solid evidence that he has any interest in becoming a Wing. Could just be that he wants out of Canada. Could be that he, like seemingly everyone else these days, wants to play in New York or Florida. I do remember those rumors, but I also remember getting the distinct impression that they were mere speculation/invention. If memory serves, it was just one or two sources making the connection; no one else in the rumormongering business ever really got behind it. -
That's so four years ago. We Czech bois now.

I mean, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be ecstatic to have Karlsson on the team. Because it's Erik Karlsson. But the dude is always battling through something and it's always the lower body. For a guy who's played a lot of hard minutes and whose game is built on mobility...it's a concern. I don't see why he'd want to become a Wing in the first place, so this is probably moot anyway.
-
See my reply in the other thread. He's always got something going on with the lower body. Usually it's some part of the legs. This year it's a nagging groin problem. It's a buyer beware situation. If we're going all in on Panarin and/or Karlsson, we have to make a serious push within the next three years. If it backfires and we end up weighed down by an enormous contract or two, everyone will be saying Yzerman is Holland 2.0.
-
The groin thing is the latest in a long line of injuries. At this point, his lower body is being held together with duct tape and prayer.
-
No one's denying he's one of the best defensemen in the NHL. The question is, Can you count on him staying at that level for the next however many years? If he didn't have a long history of significant leg-related injuries, there'd be no issue. But he does have a long history of significant leg-related injuries. And he's played an insane number of minutes already in his career. You have to wonder how well he's going to age. You have to wonder if he'll become an albatross halfway into his contract, maybe even sooner. If you're not getting Powerhouse Erik Karlsson for more than three years of that contract, then the contract is going to be a problem.

Do we have any solid reason to believe this tho? -
Forwards tend to peak before age 28. Panarin will be 28 in October. Karlsson's body is breaking down. The other day some insider half-joked on Twitter that when the Sharks' run is over, Karlsson's going to check himself into a hospital. He probably has three elite years left, at most.

Griffins trail 1-4 in the deciding game of their first round series against the Chicago Wolves. Disappointing. -

I was really pleased with DeKeyser in that final stretch. He played hard minutes, he put up points (with no power play time), and he seemed to gel with Hronek. I actually have DeKeyser-Hronek down as my preferred top pairing for the beginning of next season. As I've said, if he's playing like that all of the time, his contract isn't a problem. Even when he's not 100% on his game, we don't really have someone who can adequately fill his shutdown role. Abby...oof. He's a bottom-six roleplayer who can be a serviceable top-six complementary winger when there aren't any better options. He's slowing down. He's dealt with some significant injuries in recent seasons. He can't produce offense on his own. Right now, I like DeKeyser way more than I like Abby. But then, I'd pretty much given up on DeKeyser before he went on that nice run to close out the season. So maybe Abby surprises me next season.

Freaking millennials. -
I mean, sure. It's the Sharks, it's what they do. But that comeback win against Vegas is the kind of thing that can propel a team to a Cup. They certainly have the talent.
-
Yes, I'm very happy. The tears are delicious.

This could be the Sharks' year.

Peyton "Manning" Krebs, aka Mr. Krebs, aka Krebs Cycle, is going 1st overall. https://hfboards.mandatory.com/posts/160202021/ "This draft is shaping up to have a really nice top 10. With that said, im finding it really hard keeping Krebs out of my top 5 for 2019 and thats not a knock whatsoever on the rest of the players in the top 10." https://hfboards.mandatory.com/posts/160203457/ "Krebs is a guy I think could go #3. That #3 spot holds more intrigue to me this year than who goes #1 this year." https://hfboards.mandatory.com/posts/160270667/ "Another beastly game from Krebs, he looks like a top 5 talent to me. He is outplaying Cozens in almost every facet of the game and doing it while playing centre."

She deserves better than New Jersey. And Vancouver.
