Podkolzin likely goes in the top five, quite possibly 3rd overall.

If you'd asked me at the beginning of the season, I would've been all for pursuing Skinner. But now he's coming off a 40-goal season and that means he's probably going to get paid far more than I think he's worth. Weak D game, needs to be sheltered (i.e. you can't count on him to win tough matchups against the other team's top players), suffered multiple concussions... $7M x 4 is probably the biggest I'd be willing to go, and I really doubt that gets it done. I think Karlsson only makes sense if we draft Hughes or Kakko and we truly believe we're a Karlsson away from becoming a legitimate Cup contender. And even then, I'm not sure I'd do it. The concern with Karlsson is his health, durability, longevity. His legs have logged a ridiculous number of miles, he's suffered through a number of significant lower-body injuries, and now it appears his body is starting to break down. His game is built on his elite skating and he's been able to put up the point totals he puts up largely because he's been able to log insane minutes. Is his skating going to hold up? Is he worth crazy money if his ice time decrease and his production along with it? Maybe, maybe not. I'm just saying I think very serious buyer's remorse is a very real possibility. Maybe the next lockout hands out amnesty buyouts and maybe that gives Karlsson's GM an escape route. Sort of like the whole backdiving contract thing. *shrug*
  3. Get the hell out of my thread, you monster.

    2019 Draft

A lot of people liken him to Morgan Rielly. I think that's appropriate, though I might lean more towards Ekman-Larsson. Basically, he projects as a prototypical high-scoring, smooth-skating, minute-munching, top-pairing two-way defenseman. When you look at some other team's studly young top-pairing defenseman and you wish the Wings had a guy like that...that's the kind of player Byram has a good shot at becoming. The only concern is that defensemen are kind of a crapshoot. https://dobberprospects.com/prospect-deep-dive-bowen-byram/

    2019 Draft

Those two things -- the control and the teammate HYPE! -- are a big part of why he reminds me of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. I think his skating is actually kind of sub-optimal (seems like I'm the only person in the world who feels this way), but he more than makes up for it with possession prowess, playmaking ability, hockey sense, and sheer force of will. He plays like a pro, to the point where it can actually be a bit surreal at times. The teammates being so pumped for him speaks to his leadership, imo. Dude goes 100% all the time, in every situation. When you have a leader who's as skilled as he is AND he's running the power play and he's killing penalties and he's going HAM on every shift and he's scoring goals, that's huge for a team. Here's a rundown I did back in January: Here's a more comprehensive scouting report, done by a French dude:

    2019 Draft

He's #3 on my list and I'm thinking he's probably #3 or #4 on the Wings' list. Wings made it known that they were planning on getting a defenseman with the first pick in last year's draft and Byram is a bona fide stud. I'll be somewhat surprised if he doesn't get taken in the top five or six.

    No we're calling him Baseball.
  9. Wayne Simmonds is our new captain, change my mind.

    2019 Draft

He does qualify as a power-winger. Plays a hard-nosed, determined game, extremely skilled. In that sense he's maybe a bit like Ovie. But I think what make him special is the all-around game; he can be trusted to play in all situations and he can be leaned on in critical moments. He's a remarkably mature player for his age. So, personally, I liken him more to Datsyuk, Zetterberg.

It's true. Or, at least, it's true that that's the consensus.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of switching over to a system like this one. Just playing devil's advocate.

    2019 Draft

Probably lots of valid reasons, tbh. Differences in strength of schedule could be a sore point and would probably have fans complaining just as much if not more than they do about the current system Injuries could also be an issue, e.g. the Devils probably don't finish third from the bottom this season if Taylor Hall doesn't miss most of the season (again, fans would howl) Might change the standard development curves of prospects, as teams might be less inclined to give young players a serious look in the late stages of the season I'm sure there's other stuff.

No one here's actually complaining about Jarnkrok, kipper. Come down off your high horse, take a nap, and come back to us when you're refreshed and revitalized and not all dingus-like.
