Hate is a strong word for a Red Wing. I would say he frustrates me. The heart and effort is always there. The stuff that could make him a reliable scorer is not there, and that's not really his fault. I think the most he's ever pissed me off was that pivotal screw-up in the 2015 Tampa series. If memory serves, he tried to get fancy with the puck in the o-zone while we were protecting a one-goal lead late in the 3rd. He turned the puck over and a few seconds later the puck was in our net and it was a tie game. Game went to OT, we lost, and it was absolutely soul-crushing. We were minutes away from breaking Tampa's back and Helm helped them break ours instead.

End of 2nd. Wings trail 2-3. Basically the perfect tank game thus far, I s'pose. Good showing from the team and the youth. Can't really complain.

Bruins take the lead with a minute left in the 2nd. 2-3.

Aaaand now it's 4-on-4. Good job, Wings. If the Wings weren't allowed power plays, they'd probably be the best team in the league.

Truth be told, I hate our power play more. He seems like a bona fide possession player. As in, like, forget about shot metrics and all that -- he's good at holding the puck and making plays, including tape-to-tape passes.

Marchand ties it shorthanded. 2-2. That has to be, what, the ninth SHG we've given Marchand this season? Sure feels like it.

Bruins pull within one. 2-1. They've added a Bertuzzi assist on the first Mantha goal. Bertuzzi now has two assists on the night, 24 on the season.

Absolutely. All of this. I will say this tho: We can talk all day and night about how this winning is important and how the young kids are driving the bus, but we're probably going to have egg on our faces when the 2019-20 opening night roster is filled with slow, middling veterans. Holland's been saying for years that he wants this team to get to a point where the young players have taken over -- by force -- and have eliminated the need for lots of veteran stopgaps. He's also been saying that 2019-20 is the season where we have to start turning things around and working our way back into the playoff picture. All of which is to say...can we please take note of what's working right now and consider that when it comes time to construct next season's roster?
