Unfortunately, that's in line with the odds: http://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds

Steve Yzerman to step down as GM for TBL. Will serve in "Advisory Role".
Dabura replied to kliq's topic in General
Seems like all this speculation about Yzerman always runs into this gray area of "Wait, how would that work?" Does Holland extend Blashill only to have Yzerman fire him soon after? Does Holland tell Blashill he's not sure what they're gonna do because Yzerman might be taking over? "Just keep your phone on. I dunno. lol" Does Holland give two s***s about what Yzerman wants? (Does Chris Ilitch?) Is Holland thinking to himself, "Yeah, I feel like I'm doing pretty well with this whole rebuild thing. We might get Hughes or Kakko and Zadina's looking pretty good and Hronek's looking pretty good and Larkin's a franchise center. I think I'll call it quits now and let Yzerman take the wheel and if Yzerman wins a Cup with the foundation I created then he'll get all the credit and that's cool with me"? -

Well, in any case, it's something to think about. I guess.

I just hope we don't sign Brassard.

I'm only concerned in the sense that not one of those players is a safe bet to be a really solid 2C within the next two years. If we're ok with being patient, then it doesn't really matter. But we know this is the Wings and we know the Wings are naturally impatient.

Sens and Ducks have been getting points. Blood is in the water. The time is now.

Also, Filip Zadina scored seven goals in a single game.

Yeah, I'm really not sure what to do about the center depth, specifically that 2C spot. Veleno should be able to fill that hole at some point, but I'm assuming it'll be a couple of years. Same with any centerman we might take with our top pick in the upcoming draft (with the possible exception of Hughes). It'd be really great if AA or Rasmussen could own that spot, but I'm not holding my breath. So maybe throwing money at Duchene makes sense. And maybe it makes that much more sense if we add a guy like Kakko (suddenly we'd have great winger depth and no center depth to complement it). I don't know that drafting Byram would make me want Duchene more, because Byram probably wouldn't be NHL-ready before Veleno is ready, so the urgency wouldn't necessarily be there. But, point is, I'm open to stuff.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps me going. We are bad, but we just need a little luck here and there.

This tank stops for no one.

Kind of reminds me of OEL. From what I've seen of him, there really isn't much piss and vinegar to his game, but I've only watched him a few times. I'd say we picked a pretty good year to be really bad.

Byram's third or fourth on my want list. He's a stud. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the guy the Wings end up targeting if they don't get one of the top two picks. All we ever hear about is how you can only get Bowen Byrams in the draft. Well, here's a Bowen Byram. Byram-Hronek could be a hell of a pairing. In theory.

3/2 I Don't Like Sand GDT - Red Wings @ Coyotes - 8:00 PM ET

Yup. Honestly, all I really care about right now is getting the 1st or 2nd overall pick. If we can do that, I think Wings fans will generally be much happier people, regardless of what happens with the front office. -

That's fair. I guess I just feel like the Yzerman HYPE! assumes our situation is more malleable than it really is. I get that people want to see some changes, but I don't know that putting Yzerman in charge gets us those changes right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Yzerman taking over this summer. I just wouldn't expect much to change in his first year or two.
