LGW.com has operatives everywhere. Seriously tho, that's an awesome story!

No, it's not. The Wings have an actual plan. The Wings are adding pieces. The Wings should be better within the next few years. Right now we don't have the talent to contend, so the best we can realistically hope for is good showings from the young talent every night and competitive games. We're getting both under Blashill this season. Look at our roster -- it's one of the weakest rosters in the league. (Because we're a rebuilding team.) Look at how many games we lose narrowly and add those up. There's your bad goal differential. It's not like we're getting blown out every night. That's awfully convenient for your argument. "Blashill is ruining the kids. Larkin doesn't count." Cool. Yeah? And? Because Glendening is a faceoff specialist. Is it a stupid move? Maybe, maybe not. But it's not like there wasn't any logic behind it and it's not like Blashill's the only coach in the league who would've done it. Blashill puts DK out in OT against the Leafs and he scores the OT winner. Anecdotes are fun! I don't know how closely y'all follow other teams, but I can tell you that every NHL fan base has the same complaints about every NHL head coach. I think it says more about the fans than it does about the coaches. Fans want their teams to win every game and play all the young kids all the time. But reality doesn't work that way. Fair enough. But, personally, you haven't convinced me. Not even close.

Do we have proof that Blashill has "halted the progress of basically every young or prime player on our team except Larkin"? (Why doesn't Blashill get credit for Larkin becoming a legit 1C?) Seems to me the young talent is developing well and slowly taking over. Seems to me Blashill has been able to get a rebuilding team that's devoid of top-tier talent to a point where they can play any team close, often losing by one measly goal. I think that's pretty impressive. I think Blashill's unfairly maligned. I think you have to look at what he's working with and recognize what he's being asked to do. When you view things in context, I think it's hard to make a really strong case for moving on from him. The most damning argument against him is probably "Joel Quenneville could be available." But Quenneville won his Cups with Cup-worthy teams. Who's Blashill's Kane? Who's Blashill's Keith?

    2019 Trade Deadline

I'm just saying it's the point I'd expect that panel to make. It's all so predictable. Canadian mainstream hockey media tends to be big on size and toughness and physicality and they have a vested interest in building up the Hughes-Kakko battle to be closer than it is. Drama --> More people paying attention to the draft --> More people paying attention to what talking heads say about the draft. Kakko is a very, very good hockey player. Physically, he's probably the most NHL-ready player in this draft class. But Hughes is still universally regarded as the #1 guy in this draft class, and for good reason. He's played against everyone that he can legally play against -- including top college teams -- and he's dominated everyone. The size/injury thing is way overblowm, IMO.
  5. Kind of is tho. "Six years ago, when Nyquist was 23, fans wanted him on the roster. Now that he's 29 and the team is in a different place, people want him traded. Fickle fans amirite??" A younger player like Mantha would be a better example. It was only two or three years ago that he was The Next Big Thing, and now it's starting to look like he's probably just the next Nyquist/Tatar and the knives will be out for him soon.

Brian Burke and Nick Kypreos have concerns about a player because he's smallish and "lacks toughness"? Well, spank my ass and call me Charlie! I do believe I've seen everything now!
  8. To be fair, "only a short time ago" was, like, six years ago. When he was, like, 23.

Notes: Wings will miss Nyquist but wish him well [DetroitRedWings.com] Zadina is a font of unintentionally passive-aggressive statements.

    2019 Trade Deadline

Gotcha. Could be that they had an extension in place. Either way, I think it makes sense for the Jets. They're struggling a bit lately, but the Western Conference is wide open this season. This could be their year (and right before Laine gets his big raise).

Very big body. 26 years old. Centerman. Producing reasonably well this season on a bad team. Kills penalties. He's the kind of target GMs lust after. Not saying I necessarily agree with it, just that it do be like that.

The worst part is I'm up for being pissed off but Holland really isn't giving me much to work with here.

    2019 Trade Deadline

This could be his final year in the NHL. He came back to Detroit because he likes being in Detroit. I suppose he'd rather go out on his terms than be traded for a 3rd-round pick and play five minutes a night in the playoffs. I'm ok with it.

This forum would be a much angrier place.
  17. Unacceptable! You believe what I believe or you get the heck off these boards.
  18. Either way, I'm fine with the deal. I'm accepting that Holland got market value for Nyquist and I'm regarding "Holland should've waited because we know for a fact that there would've been absolutely no risk in waiting" as complaining for the sake of complaining.
  19. We don't know that. I think you're reaching for a way to frame this as a screw-up. Even if we would've received the same return, who really cares? It's looking SJ's 2nd is actually going to be FLA's 2nd, in which case it's a very early 2nd, which is great. It's the "rising tide lifts all boats" concept. No, I don't think this necessarily means Rasmussen is going to immediately start playing all the minutes Nyquist was playing. What I'm saying is it creates some opportunity and allows for a little more upward mobility. The minutes that Nyquist has played this season will be given to other people and that could have a ripple effect throughout the lineup. Cholowski kind of sucked for most of the season; I'm in no real rush to see him playing big minutes as a Wing.
  20. Pick order outside of the 1st round is based solely on the standings, no?
  21. Opens for me, and it seems to be the actual NHL.com site. But atm it seems to be the only source that's reporting this bit of info...
