I agree with Blashill when he says Mantha has to have his feet moving at all times if he's going to be a really effective player. PP Boucher is correct: refs just missed another call. Chicago plays fast, aggressive hockey and they have lots of scorers and they've obviously watched a lot of tape on the Wings and they know exactly how they have to play against us. Their transition game is lethal. The Wings can't make simple passes and we're doubling and trippling down on the collapse zone defense, with three guys in red sweaters literally standing on the perimeter of our goal crease and the other two guys feebly pretending to apply pressure at the points. So, yeah, things could be going better, I guess you could say. Kane scores. 1-4.

I'm with Edzo on this one -- Mantha (and Wings forwards in general) need to work on getting their shots off quicker. Part of that is cleaning up the passing, but it certainly wasn't an issue in that sequence we just saw. Vanek high-sticked right in the pearly whites, four feet in front of the ref, who's looking right at the incident. No call. Vanek has blood coming out of his mouth. Vanek is angry. End of 1st. Wings trail 1-3. This tank stops for no one.

Every game this team plays gives me a new opportunity to ask how it is that the Wings are so big on Michigan-born talent but miss out on countless standout Michigan-born players like DeBrincat. PP Mantha hits the post. Some great puck movement there.
