    Good observation. I've mentioned a few times that Blashill's "scoring chances, not shot counts" philosophy has slowly won me over, but I've only talked about it re: our o-zone play. Our phalanx-esque zone defense is consistent with that philosophy: we're ok with allowing shots if all the shots are coming from outside the danger areas.

    I haven't been saying much about Howard or the goaltending in general, mainly because I kinda don't want to jinx things...but it really needs to be said: Howard and Bernier have both been outstanding for us over the past ten games or so. IMO, goaltending's the biggest reason why the team's had a great November. Is this level of goaltending sustainable? Probably not. But this is a good lesson in how valuable solid goaltending can be.

    Four points behind the 2nd Wildcard Habs and three points ahead of the last-in-the-East Panthers. I like it; I can entertain thoughts of making the playoffs and I can also entertain thoughts of us being a serious contender for Hughes.

    Correct. When it pays off, I love it. When it doesn't, I hate it. At the end of the day, I think Blashill's right to be preaching the importance of holding the puck and making plays and trying to create big-time scoring chances.

    That's what I tell myself! ...while doing my best to ignore our unsustainably good goaltending and our pillow-soft November schedule and our tendency to sleepwalk through the first 20-25 minutes of the games and...

    Looking ahead... we've got the defending Cup champs tomorrow and the red-hot Sabres on Saturday. Sabres have won seven straight and, like us, are 8-2-0 over their last ten games. Should be a good test. Also: Happy Thanksgiving!
