The vibe I'm getting is the Wings really want to see how good they can be if they can get the power play working. The power play is clearly a major point of emphasis. If Vanek can maybe help with that, on a no-risk contract, I'm ok with that. Larkin, Zetterberg, Nielsen, Nyquist, Mantha, Zadina (?), Rasmussen (?), Vanek (?), Green (?), Hronek (?), Hicketts (?)...that's a lot of potential weapons. Lot of pieces for Bylsma to play around with.

Honestly, defensemen are such a crapshoot that a part of me feels like a newly rebuilding/retooling organization like the Wings should favor forwards in the 1st round, unless it's a truly exceptional defenseman who's practically a lock to be an NHL 1D, e.g. Dahlin, Hedman, Ekblad, Doughty. You really just need to find that one special defenseman, and he could emerge at any given time. It's slightly different with forwards: even if you find that special 1C, you still have to surround him with a small army of high-end forwards and some overqualified bottom-sixers. You can only do so much to accelerate that process of assembling a genuinely deep forward group; any one year can gift you that 1D, but assembling a Cup-worthy forward group is going to take a few years. The Wings have quietly been putting a solid forward group together for the past several years, and now, with Zadina and Veleno and Berggren, the work is pretty much complete (at least for the time being). Now the Wings can focus more squarely on finding that 1D. And now they're deep enough at forward that swinging a trade is more doable than it has been.

Seems there were some off-ice concerns about Wilde. Possibly something about how he handled committing to/de-committing from college programs...? Wings have said they're emphasizing the importance of (perceived) character in their drafting, so I'm fine with not taking any chances on that front. https://dobberprospects.com/cam-robinsons-2018-nhl-draft-rankings-top-115-april-2018/ Jonatan Berggren / RW/C / 5’10 183lbs / 07-16-00 (SuperElit) An absolute wrecking ball of a player who has been posting tremendous numbers in the J20 circuit. Logs miles of ice as he forechecks with impunity, distributes the puck and knows how to finish as well. Terrific international performances at the Hlinka, Five Nations and U18’s offer scouts a glimpse of his skill on some big stages and he’s even looked capable in a 10 game stint in the SHL. Some of the best one-on-one skills in the class. A player his coaches love and his opponents hate. YES PLZ

Yeah, I'm good with these picks. Probably not the way I would've gone, but, if nothing else, I'm all about our depth at forward right now. Berggren is a potential steal and a half. But they're all right-handed.

Wings take Jared McIsaac.

I'm not at all concerned. Kid is an unequivocally "elite, elite" goal-scorer. A goal-scorer's goal-scorer. What makes him that good isn't just the shot, it's his ability to put himself in positions to use the shot. And it's not just a wonderful knack for shaking loose from coverage and finding open space (as all natural born snipers have), it's his ability to take the opposite approach: hounding the puck, mucking around in the corners and in the slot. He's a dangerous, determined forechecker, not unlike Brendan Gallagher. All of that, plus his surprisingly mature two-way game (he models his game after Kucherov and Hossa), makes him truly dynamic. When he's low in the other team's zone, he inspires that sense of dread in the other team('s fans) that we as Wings fans have grown to associate with Kucherov. He can singlehandedly dictate the course of play in the o-zone, whether he has the puck or not -- because you have to respect that he can, at any time, decide he's gonna try to disappear-and-re-appear a la Brett Hull...or get right in the middle of the action and throw his weight around (at 6'0-195ish, he's a tank) and get his nose dirty. He's also a great playmaker. In terms of goal-scorer prospects, Zadina's about as good as it gets. Top-three talent in any draft, IMO.

Let's be real: that's him right now, in his heckin' huge Dalls hotel suite, with a buncha heckin' hot MILFs, and they're all drinkin' ginger ales and playin' Twister and pillow-fighting and talkin' about how cute Leo DiCaprio was and how he should've stayed with Gisele. What a pimp.

Never played fortnite, lol. These days my gaming is limited to watching people's playthroughs on YouTube.
