Interesting. From that first piece: What we are also learning is that while the Red Wings are not actively shopping Athanasiou, teams are calling about him, with the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings displaying the most interest in him. The Canadiens, who are currently being outscored by Alex Ovechkin and are tied with Mika Zibanejad, James Neal and Brandon Saad, desperately need a player who can provide them with offense. (Could a deal involving Alex Galchenyuk make sense at this point? Yes. Yes, it could.) Athanasiou fits the Kings’ new philosophy tilting toward more speed and offense and the Senators could use a player of Athanasiou’s skill and speed to supplement their left wing corps. It's Ken Campbell, whose word I tend to take with a grain of salt -- but I do agree that, in theory, an AA-Galchenyuk swap makes some sense. Certainly the idea is tantalizing. Galchenyuk is 23. He's gifted offensively and problematic defensively. He's a natural center who has the potential to be a solid top-six centerman, but he hasn't really been able to earn his coaches' trust on that front -- and now he's skating on Montreal's fourth line, as a winger. He's probably better than AA at this time. He's definitely the more proven player. But it's no secret that the Habs need some dynamic, gamebreaking talent up front. AA might be able to help that cause. Galchenyuk's cap hit is $4.9M, so we'd probably have to send them more than just AA. Unlike the Wings, the Habs do have some cap space...

It's been said that team he's skating with has no intention of offering him a contract. I still doubt the KHL offer thing was ever an actual thing. I mean, I've no doubt a team or two expressed interest in him, maybe even offered him a contract -- but I don't think he ever had any intention of playing in the KHL. I think it was always an empty threat. Bottom line, for me, is he's being a spoiled brat. A baby. A prima donna. And, depending on how you feel about the Hunter family and the London Knights program, you might say AA has a history of petulance. He slid to the fourth round of the entry draft because there were serious questions about his character/maturity. So, no, I don't think you can pin this entirely on Blashill and/or Holland. I mean, I get it. It sucks being an RFA, especially one with no arbitration rights. And maybe it sucks playing under Jeff Blashill. But, like, you have to pick your battles. This battle he's fighting isn't worth it. This is not a good hill to die on. Sign the deal, make over a million dollars for a year or two, and then, if you're half as good as you think you are, you'll get rewarded. It's not like Holland is known for cheating RFAs. If anything, he's known for giving fair deals to his younger players.

The Demon King or Roman Reigns, either one will do.

Welp, two Dahlin points. And one of the kids scored. So it's not a total loss.

Holy crap, how far behind is my feed????
-
With Witkowski probably switching to D. Anything to keep Hicketts away from the big club.
-
I am numb.
-
DeKeyser out with a lower-body injury.

This Janmark kid is pretty good. Where'd the Stars find him? Agreed. He and Kronwall are both left shots and both have mobility issues.
-
PP. Let's go.
-
Ouellet or Jensen, yeah. Of course, this is assuming Kronwall actually draws back in.
-
On a positive note, we're probably getting Kronwall back on Thursday or Friday.

End of 2nd. Stars lead 3-1. Stars' speed and transition game have slowly but surely taken over. The fourth line is utterly useless, so we essentially have three lines. And the NIelsen line is kind of useless, so we need one of the top two lines to step up. And the Zetterberg line is the only one of our lines that's been decently effective tonight, so we're a one-line team right now.

Quick whistle much?
-
PP. Need to get one here.
-
Janmark dances around our defense, scores. Stars lead 3-1. Leaky goal. Witkowski to the box.
-
ABBY! PP goal! This is a winnable game.

Request DENIED.

End of 1st. Played pretty well, but I didn't think we were ruthless enough in the o-zone. Every time we break into their zone with possession we fan out and try to set up an umbrella, with one winger hugging each half-wall and the man in the middle just king of hoping that the puck carrier can force a pass through to him in the slot. It's low-percentage, because the wingers are boxing themselves out and allowing the defending Stars to assume their defensive positions and be exactly where they need to be to cut off the cross-ice pass attempt. I want to see more driving the net. Less going around, more trying to go past or through. We need to shoot more. You'd think we would've learned by now that 20-25 shots on Ben Bishop, with our lack of cold-blooded snipers, is almost certainly not going to get the job done. We need to throw everything we can at him. Also, the second PP unit should be the first PP unit. I didn't like Zetterberg on the power play last season and I don't like him on it this season.

Seguin rips one past Mrazek on the power play. Stars lead 2-0.

PK.

I'm guessing Blashill switched Frk and Abby for faceoff reasons. (Abby is a former center.) Stars are owning us in the faceoff circle.

Wings to the PP.
