Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Assume we're getting a defenseman. Chiasson's big, physical, right-handed, a decent scorer, young. We're always saying we could really use a right-shooting power-forward. -

What's wrong with Yakupov: drafted by and plays for the Edmonton Oilers. He had a shift last night - against the Blackhawks - where he hauled ass on the backcheck and got back just in time to break up a 'hawks scoring chance. He also had an assist and a beautiful goal-scorer's goal. He's a great kid. His heart's in the right place. He could be a partyer and a womanizer and an egotistical punk, but that's not him. He's religious, hangs out with his mom. He just needs a change of scenery, an organization that knows what it's doing, has its act together. -

I'm saying he's one of the few players who could get me to part with Tatar. I think it goes without saying that he'd cost far more than just Tatar. -
He'll have less time and space in the NHL, but it's not like "it won't happen." Like, are we actually saying he won't be able to wind up in the NHL? Briere beat Lehner last night with a slapper on the rush. It was pure Pulkkinen. It's incredibly unlikely.

Ekman-Larsson just scored his eleventh goal of the season. One of the few players I'd give up Tatar to get. -

Eh, I dunno. IMHO, Sproul's got one of the hardest, heaviest shots in hockey. (Ask Mitch Callahan, heh.) But, I mean, I do prefer Pulkkinen as a pure shooter/sniper. I believe it holds until he returns.

LOL, my friend: "Look for Babcock to play him as a defenseman. 'If you squint your eyes, he looks like Brian Rafalski!'"
-
If he rips a one-timer past Holtby from the Ovie spot, does the universe implode? I'll be surprised if he doesn't see PP time with one or both of Z and D. The Euro Twins are arguably the ultimate don't-overthink-things-just-get-open-and-they-will-find-you playmakers. Pulkkinen is the purest just-give-him-the-puck-and-take-cover shooter we have (outside of Sproul).

Mike Yeo (Wild) Has Meltdown At Practice

I hadn't seen the video when I posted in this thread yesterday. Having seen it, I'm gonna walk back my thought that this might be some really bad behind-the-scenes stuff bubbling to the surface. I mean, that's certainly a possibility - but taking the video sort of at face value, this doesn't look like a "meltdown" or an "explosion." At least, not by hockey coach standards. This is what my peewee coach was like on a good day (minus the bag-skating). -

I might take Petry over Smith; his underlying numbers have been good, and that's impressive when you consider the tough minutes he's played for some truly awful Oilers teams. Problem is, he might only be on board for a few months. That's probably a moot point, though, because I don't think we have to give up Smith to get Petry. Yeah, the Avs could do way better than Smith and Kindl (especially if it's the Wings. They're not going to take our expendables.) And I'm not sure that's the kind of defenseman they want in the first place. They need some steady, solid, dependable types. They've already got a couple great young offensive defensemen in Barrie and Johnson...who are both...right-hand shots. *cough* As for Myers...I've done my devil's advocate bit concerning him and why he'd be a good add for us. But, at the end of the day, I'm not willing to give up a whole lot for him. A reasonable three-piece package? Perhaps. But Murray's not going to want anything reasonable, unless he's really souring on Myers and he feels that moving him could help accelerate the Sabres' rebuild. -

I'm sure J.P. Parise's situation doesn't make things any easier. Awful stuff. -

I've heard whispers that there's something bad going on behind the scenes (see, e.g., the Harding wall kick incident), and now it looks like it might be bubbling to the surface. -
Hitting someone in the head and embellishing are slightly different things. I think you're being a bit too hard-line about this. Diving sucks, but it's a thing. That's why they're doing this fining system - it's gotten slightly out of control and the league wants to clamp down on it. (Granted, the same can be said of hits to the head. But, again, I'll take a dive over a shot to someone's head. Not that I condone either one, mind you.)

Yeah, if we're being honest, pretty much everyone does it. Or, put another way, no one's totally above it.

Here's the NJ one: https://twitter.com/awood40/status/552947151299698689 He definitely deserves the fine. I just hate that it's a Wing.
