I'm not convinced that no one would trade for Weiss. Tallon only let him walk in the first place because his hands were tied financially. That's no longer the case; he's been given the green light to spend this summer. If not Florida, then perhaps Toronto. Bolland probably won't be back, as he's reportedly looking for a big-ass contract. So, you'd expect them to tell him to GTFO, then turn right around and acquire an ugly contract (e.g. Weiss) as his replacement.

My point was he's a solid 2C who can fill in on the top line on a temporary basis if need be. Given our injury woes every season, that'd be big for us.

Also, Jimmy needs to save that McBain shot. Soft as a baby's bottom. Also, Smith needs to smarten the eff up. If Quincey can stay out of the box and be mostly quiet (in a good way) through 60, so can he. I know Mike Emrick thinks he's the s***, but Mike Emrick also thinks goalies wear waffles on their hands. Also, winning as much as we are with Kindl and Lashoff seemingly never leaving the ice is quite impressive. Also, negativity.

Needs to be said: Franzen with ultra-clutch, win-preserving defensive plays in consecutive games. Also, Nyquist is washed up. Trade his ass.

lol our goal differential is -9.

Psh, I don't fear the Habs! I'll never truly fear a Therrien team. But, generally, they've really been clicking - and being without Murray makes them that much better. Plus, it's the Bell Center. Basically, what we did in the first period tonight? Do that for three periods.
-
Wait, Chicago's GWG came with four seconds left in regulation? I love it!!!
-
The Habs are f****** scary right now. Hope we bring it tomorrow. Also: 21 fart gun salute for Don Van Massenhoven! You will be missed.

Special thanks to Chicago and NJ!

2 points. Props to the Sabres for taking ten years off my life. lol

What is wrong with our defensemen? Like, seriously.

Foot on throat, boys.

Please win.

The Pens actually aren't especially deep this season. Our bottom six is better than theirs, and if our fourth line can continue to be clutch in the shutdown department, that gives us a big matchups advantage. They need their big guns to carry the team. I recently said the Bruins don't have any weaknesses. But if there's one area of concern for them, it's their blue line, which is young and inexperienced - much like ours.

Absolutely. Legwand has shown he can be a respectable 1C. If he asks for a longish deal @ around $5M per year, well, that's what Dave Bolland is reportedly looking for, and Dave Bolland is a third-line center. Point being, I think the market value for top-end centermen is going to rise pretty dramatically over the next couple of seasons, especially with the cap going up. And if the secret wasn't out prior to this season, it certainly is now: we have a ton of extremely promising kids in our system. If we're going to acquire a top-six center via trade because Weiss really isn't working out, we'll have to part with another young stud. Why not just re-sign Legwand and eliminate that possibility?
-
I think shutting Weiss down and giving him a clean slate next fall is the right way to go. But, I also think we should try to re-sign Legwand. If that means a couple guys have to switch to wing, so be it. We need to know that we're gonna have Z and D on the top line and a solid second-line center.

I agree, harold. What really amazes me about Washington is their total lack of quality veteran leadership. Guys who've been around the block, been deep in the playoffs, know what it takes to win. A roster that lacks true leadership and experience can very easily fall into the trap of self-delusion and denial and "shifting goal posts" (as Mike Gillis puts it) and such. I think that's largely what we're seeing in Washington. Who in that organization can really step up and call the team out without everyone thinking, "Wait, remind me how much you've won at the NHL level...? Oh, right - nothing." I mean, this may not be fair, but even Adam Oates - while truly a phenomenal player (and, ironically, one of the all-time great set-up men) - never won the Cup.

Looks like Datsyuk and Nyquist (aka Datsyuk Jr.) will be on the first PP unit. Stoked to see what these two can do together.

I was hoping Ericsson would be back for the first round. Guess not. Very big suck.

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News feels the Sedins should be moved in the offseason. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/canucks-gong-show-year-should-end-with-sedins-being-traded-in-the-off-season/ Moving Kesler, the Sedins, possibly Edler, all after having moved Schneider and Luongo...that'd be ballsy.

Bernier out three weeks with an MCL strain. Not good news for the Leafs.
-
Yep, you're right, Foligno is almost certainly out. My bad. I do worry about Scott. I also worry about their no-name goalies + any player that hasn't scored a goal at the NHL level. The really good news is that Jimmy absolutely owns this team.

The thing I don't get about Crosby is why he feels he needs to pull this stuff. He's already won a Cup. He's gonna win the Hart this year. His team's a powerhouse. He's the best player in the world and the face of hockey. He is, by all accounts, a real class act off the ice. Refs are going to give him the benefit of the doubt on anything and everything anyway - but not if he keeps diving. You're better than this, Sid. Though I suppose getting clocked in the face with a metallic whistle probably isn't a great feeling. But still.
