Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Is that proper grammar? Intrigues me? Holy hell I'm tired.

    Ehrhoff intrigues me.

I'm just not sure there's much logic in moving a cornerstone player when you're a bubble team in an all-hands-on-deck battle for that second wild card spot. Unless the return is delicious. But even then... The Preds have a shot at making the playoffs. So, naturally, they...move Shea Weber at the deadline? Because they're in a position to win now and they want to add a player or two of immediate and significant value? That...seems weird to me. I mean, I'd love for it to be true that Edler, Yandle, and Weber are all really, truly on the block and that we might even have a shot at one of them. But I'm thinking the respective GMs are probably just curious more than anything else.

It wasn't a terrible signing. He got hurt right out of the gate.

Actually, now that I really think about it, I guess I can maybe see where you're coming from. But I have to think that if any one of those three moves a high-end defenseman, they're going to want a Damn Good Return. Depending on the player, it might be worth it for us. (Also, the sky is blue.) But our focus is probably going to be on potential bargains. (But at night the sky is black.)

I'd be down with Gilbert. Gilbert and Edler would be gravy. Like I've said, though, I don't see Edler being moved this season - and if he does get moved, it will, I think, be for a substantial return. Bottom line: the Canucks are in a dog fight for a wild card spot, same as us.

My understanding is that Kenny and co. actually sat down with Weber, and he basically said he wasn't interested in being a Wing. That was - and probably still would be - the biggest obstacle.

Why did Franzen get 10 min game misconduct?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was mostly for Franzen's protection. He's scored three goals, it's a blowout, he's probably running his mouth, he's coming off a concussion, and Chris Neil obviously wants a piece of him.

    Gillis would be hanged.

  11. I just realized the Sens' third jersey logo is a big fat zero. Not trying to be a jerk. Just saying.

Detroit Red Wings trade rumors: On playoff bubble, will Wings make deadline noise? [sBNation] It's the big story on the front page of SBN's hockey section.
  13. Probably for the best. No Franzen on the ice means zero risk of him being cheap-shotted.
  14. Johan "I ain't even mad" Franzen.
  15. No mercy. The Pav stays in.

OK, that's what I was wondering. I'd thought that was the case, but it seemed silly to me. By all means then, use the space!

I mean, I guess Sammy being LTIR'd might give us a cushion. But do you get where I'm coming from? Isn't using LTIR space on a big acquisition generally considered risky business? Couldn't it potentially put us in a really bad spot? I mean, if Z's done for the entire season, that's one thing. But my impression is that it's only the regular season that's been ruled out...

But if we use all of Z's LTIR space on someone...and then Z ultimately returns this season...wouldn't that put us over the cap? I feel like a moron for asking that. Am I just missing some rule that kicks in once the playoffs start?

Didn't know Sammy was on LTIR. That's a plus. As for Z...I'd be extremely wary of going the "LTIR fund" route. What happens when Z comes back? That's an honest question, because, with so many people saying that Z being out solves all our cap woes, I must be missing something.

IMHO, the big issue right now is Quincey. More specifically, the fact that he's playing well. If we want to land a big fish, we need to clear a good amount of cap space. ("You're gonna need a bigger boat.") So: Which of our high-earning roster players could you see Kenny moving at the deadline for (or, as part of a package for) a significant return? The answer is...Quincey. That's about it. And, with the way Quincey's playing of late, can we really afford to lose him this season, unless we're getting a quality defenseman in return? Our blue line needs all the help it can get. And don't say Marchenko, because's he's out for the rest of the season. One possible way around this: Montreal. Bergevin and Therrien are obsessed with making their team bigger and meaner, even if the added size isn't any good. Parros, Murray, Weise...Bertuzzi? Samuelsson? Cleary? Tootoo? (Same could be said of Edmonton, I suppose.) Well, at least you're being realistic.

How in the world would we be able to acquire Edler AND Kesler? Are you guys serious?

I still think Helm has trade value.

Refs got to job the women's gold medal game. It's only fair that they get the same opportunity on the men's side.
