  1. I'm listening to Trevor's injury update ("Abdelkader's return is immiment. And Trevor Daley") and I'm just crying, man. Just the manliest tears you've ever seen.
  2. Cholo tryna murder Zadina. Cool, cool.
  3. Score some goals, losers.
  4. wait nvm found one i think
  5. In need of stream. PM me plz.
  6. @ely s is the guy to ask about Germanbro stuff. I will say this tho: "Could be the next Marner" seems to be an unspoken theme with a number of this draft's top forwards.

50% of Russian women are indescribably wonderful. The other 50% are the spawn of Satan. There is no in between. Find yourself one of the former, stay the f*** away from the latter.
  8. Stootz and Seider are good friends. You know what's more important than friendship? NOTHING, THAT'S WHAT. Just sayin'.
  9. Yzerman took Vasilevskiy 19th overall tho. So, if anything, that probably works against the idea that Yzerman would take Askarov in the top 5. Would be real nice to get Askarov in the 12-20 range with a second 1st. I've gotta think Yzerman is not ok with going through this godawful season and only getting one 1st out of it. Our best shot at getting that pick may be to package AA and Glendening.
  10. Fair. But we're dealing with a pretty smallish sample size, right? I'm sure there have been misses, but I'm also sure there have been some hits. No one likes Fleury, but he's done pretty well for himself in his career. Price is Price.
  11. Agreed. And his name is Askarov. Admittedly, I'm sort of arguing for the sake of arguing. For all we know, Yzerman doesn't like Askarov. For all we know, Yzerman's already prepared to take Tim Stutzle 2nd overall. ...And y'know what? If that's the play, I'll back it. I want a guy that Yzerman is over the moon about. That's all I can really ask for as a fan.
  12. I guess it'd hinge on where those two Sens picks are -- and, of course, who My Guys are and where it looks like they're going to be taken. Tough to have a strong opinion about this one in December. Yeah, I think you and I are pretty much of the same mind here. The lack of a second 1st really stings, but I guess being the worst team in the league sort of makes up for it. If Askarov is as good as advertised, I think it follows that you can make a case for him being the best player available as high as 4th or possibly even 3rd. Hell, maybe even 2nd. By all indications, he's that good a goalie prospect. I mean, I get that goalies are a crapshoot and "you don't take a goalie that high," but does that apply to guys who are as good as Askarov apparently is? I feel like it doesn't.
  13. I think if there's one GM who wouldn't necessarily be tossed into an active volcano for picking a goalie 4th overall in this draft, it's Steve Yzerman. Look at our goalie situation. Look at our goal differential. Look at how much trust and goodwill Yzerman has built up with the fans. I would not be surprised if he takes the goalie in the top 8.
  14. The consensus is that this is an unusually deep draft class. I'm starting to feel like the depth has been overstated a bit (and, yeah, I'd be guilty of contributing to that), but who knows. Personally, I'm having a tough time finding quality video of a lot of the top Euro prospects, which makes it impossible for me to have truly informed takes about stuff at this time, which pisses me off. Here are some rankings and such: http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/ https://dobberprospects.com/2020-nhl-draft-fantasy-rankings/ https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/news/2020-nhl-entry-draft-top-125-alexis-lafreniere-quinton-byfield-continue-to-lead-the-pack/50ww450pezp61pmnksfov362i
  15. Do or do not. There is no afford. If it's between [really good but not gamechanging C] and [really good but not gamechanging W] and [really good but not gamechanging D] and [best goalie prospect since Carey Price], there's an argument to be made for the goalie.

I ain't even gonna ask. If Matt hasn't said anything by now, he's not going to say anything. That's his right, I guess. Whatevz. Having a Discord is good. It's not a long-term replacement for this place, but it gives us a non-HF place to congregate and scheme. So I'ma cherish this place until it finally goes under. Could be tomorrow. Could be two years from now. Could be never.

    TFW LGW is back up.
  18. I was tempted to say Kucherov. Went with Stamkos because Stamkos and Hedman were the two fantastic building blocks that Yzerman inherited and they're the main reason why I think the jury is still out re: Yzerman's GM skillz. For what it's worth tho...I was looking over Hedman's career stats yesterday and I was surprised by how long it took Hedman to really become That Guy. For whatever reason, I was under the impression that he was a monster as early as his sophomore season. Nope! The point being: Yzerman did inherit two top-tier talents, but maybe I and others have been overstating that point just a wee bit. (Hedman's career stats.)
  19. FAKE NEWS! I'm down with drafting this Yaskarov kid early in the 1st round if Yzerman and our scouts are totally sold on him and there aren't any Holy Crap This Is a Gamechanging Skater Right Here guys left on the board. In that scenario, I'd hope we could take someone to the cleaners in a trade-back deal. But if not, oh well, still take him. Agreed. Best-case scenario? We get Lafreniere, he's Stamkos Good, and Seider is Hedman Good.
  20. I forgot Andersen started that game. Good call. There's definitely a talent component. But some nights it feels to me like the attention to detail simply isn't there. I'm not saying we can just flip a magical switch and play perfect Trotzian shutdown defense -- I'm saying we don't even protect the net. We take away the middle, we put four skaters in front of the net, and teams still waltz right through our kitchen. There's a lot of what looks to me like going through the motions. Even if it's almost entirely a talent thing, I think the situation still calls for an upgrade in net. If our D is so bad that it can't be trusted to do the simplest things on a consistent basis, we're probably going to need to find a goalie who can face 35+ shots every night and not give up 4 or 5 goals every night. Maybe a coaching change plus a new-look D group immediately changes the paradigm, but I'd like for us to be overprepared. Get a new starter. Get a new head coach. Bring in a good UFA defenseman. See what Seider can do.
  21. Normally, I'd fully agree. Thing is, everyone seems to agree that this is the best goalie prospect in years. One of those "high-risk, high-reward" scenarios, I guess. We could definitely use a guy like Anton Lundell, but if people are thinking he's probably a 2C who doesn't quite move the needle for our rebuild...and we're desperate for a gamechanging franchise player...the borderline-generational goalie prospect is an intriguing option.
  22. You and I have both said it before: The single worst thing you can do to a rebuilding team like ours is put bad goalies in their net. I was actually shocked by the way the team played in front of Bernier when he was forced into emergency action against the Leafs. No concerted effort to suppress shots. No extra effort to make his job just a little bit easier than it typically is. They knew he was sick and still they hung him out to dry. They couldn't be bothered to put a single puck past Toronto's backup. I try not to read too much into this kind of stuff, but that looked to me like a team that is rejecting its goaltending (consciously or unconsciously, I dunno). So, at the very least, we need to upgrade the G position. Lehner/Markstrom is music to my ears; either one would be a solid stopgap, at least in theory. If we have to overpay, we overpay. Lehner/Markstrom + Askarov means the goalie problem is Solved with a capital S, at least in theory. I'm not saying I'd take him 1st overall. (I wouldn't.) But 4th or 5th? Or maybe even 3rd? Possibly. Could try to net something good in a trade-back deal.
  23. Yep, I gotcha. My impression is that Yzerman feels the same way.
