The six best Ryan Kesler tumbleweed gifs Also, we're probably going to lose.

Awesome! Will the game be televised?
-
I think that's mostly because we 1) always make the playoffs, 2) don't make big trades anymore, and 3) generally just don't go for other club's young guns (i.e. pride in our own farm - even though we secretly hate our young players, e.g. Nyquist - and a refusal to offer-sheet RFAs).

Heh, sorry, old LGW meme. "What's to stop Chris Chelios from [insert something ridiculous]." I thought I'd let it go unexplained, but, in retrospect, it makes me seem like a jerk and could ultimately lead to widespead confusion, panic, and chaos.

What's to stop Chris Chelios from punching you in the face?

And if they don't, then we get an awesome trade. (Plus awesome offseason signings???) And if that doesn't work or doesn't happen, we get an awesome draft pick. A win-win-win situation.

Mo' parity, mo' problems.

Interesting that they offered him to the Leafs. Agreed.

Kings captain Brown slumping, Sutter concerned [ProHockeyTalk] Dustin Brown is one of my ultimate pipe dream pick-ups. I firmly believe he would do wonders for our offense, among other things.

Not necessarily! I'd probably say the same thing, or something to the same effect - but I imagine it'd be out of indignation mostly.

My younger brother has an extremely casual interest in the Wings. His favorite player is Helm. Actually, his favorite player is probably Datsyuk. But he once told me it's Helm, which I thought was awesome. He nailed it: "Soooo fast! And he hits everyone!"

Yeah, I was thinking those probably aren't the best examples - but they do at least speak to the "crapshoot" (or just simple risk) element of any signing, even with a sure-thing slam-dunk like Derian Hatcher. Or maybe my point was sort of that we're mad at Sammy for his injury problems and for missing a (half-)season, and at Cleary because his body is being held togethr with duct tape, but things could be just as s***ty with a better talent like, e.g. Derian Hatcher. I dunno. Sometimes my brain farts.

The most annoying things about being at games?
Dabura replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
Ah, see I'm the super-thin type of tall. So I can't really relate there. Actually, what am I saying, I friggin' HATE airline seating! Unless it's one of those awesome first class dealies. (Funny parallel there: printed airline tickets and First Class Elitism. Funny stuff.) I'd never thought of that, the whole being pulled-over-on-the-road-after-having-been-dumped-on angle. I guess that's why those breath tests are nice. So basically what we've learned in this thread is that people can really suck. -
http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/28/bruins-guess-eriksson-concussion-is-getting-better/ Note the Red Wing in the pic. Note who it is and what he's doing. That's what I'm thinking. And then maybe go a step further and swap Cleary and Miller or Eaves.

I think Cleary reconsidered re: the Flyers because he realized they would all see that he can't skate and would laugh at him. Whereas here we'd give him top-six minutes and treat him like a lock for the Hall of Fame. My only question is: Which number do we retire, 11 or 71?

Flip had all the time and opportunities and resources in the world to prove he was an essential part of this team going forward. But he disappointed, season after season after season. Many - if not most - nights he was practically invisible. Potential's great, but at some point you have to deliver, and he hadn't delivered in line with what he was demanding in coin and term. "Yeah, but there was that one season!" OK, great. There was that one season - which, sort of strangely, wasn't his contract year. Which sort of makes you wonder. Maybe Flip wasn't especially happy here. As opposed to this notion that he was carrying the team on his back and would've played for free if it meant staying a Detroit Red Wing, but no, we kicked him out the door as hard as we possibly could and said NEVER COME BACK, cold as that. As for Weiss - I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've seen my fair share of Panthers hockey, and my humble assessment of Weiss - before we were even talking about him here as a possible Flip replacement - was, and remains, this: he's good. Really good. He's having a hard time adjusting to a new system and getting back into the swing of things after having missed a lot of time due to surgery. Ultimately, he's going to be good for us. I really have no good reason to believe otherwise. And, come on, Zetterberg's never had a cold streak?
-
Also, we forget - there've been some really, really bad quality-veteran signings in the past, e.g. Hatcher, Modano. Just because he's good and a veteran (as opposed to, say, Sammy, who's bad and a veteran) doesn't necessarily mean it's going to work out for us. Truism, I know. But I felt like sharing.

(And this is coming from an unkillable pessimist.)

It's been twelve games, dude. Four of those were against Western teams. We went 1-2-1 against them. Against the Eastern teams, on the other hand, we've gone 5-2-1. The two losses were absolute no-shows (as opposed to games in which we, say, gave our all but came up short against clearly superior teams), and, actually, so was the overtime loss. Once we get rolling, we'll be fine.
