Johnny Quick let us in a terrible goal. WHAT'S THE ISSUE, MAN

Hockey community rallies around paralyzed high school player

Hadn't heard about this. Thanks for bringing it up. -
Wasn't Tom Renney brought in primarily for the sake of the power play? Ugh.

I do agree with you and Oates in those respects. Especially re: McLellan's decision to sit Hertl, which, like I said before (I think it was the GDT), was a smart move. But, at the same time, I feel Oates comes off as a grumpy old geezer. (As opposed to a young geezer, or a middle-aged geezer.) I mean...respect the league? OK, y'know what? I get that. Really, I do. I can understand and respect where he's coming from there. ...But, like so many others, I feel like getting scored on nine times in one game - and only mustering two for your own cause - is a bigger "insult" to the league and to hockey in general (not to mention certain fans), as Team Defense is The Name of the Game, and Lundqvist is supposed to be The Greatest Goalie of Our Generation, and stuff. I'm not trying to be snarky or anything. I just think if you're a coach, and you see nine goals against, even if it's another team, you're supposed to feel nauseated.

So it's looking like... Zetterberg Datsyuk Bertuzzi Franzen Weiss Abdelkader Cleary Andersson Alfredsson Miller Glendening Tootoo ...right?
-
We kicked the tires, but ultimately we felt the price wasn't right. It takes two to dance. We like our team. Getting Nyquist back will basically be a big deadline acquisition. You've got to draft well and build and promote from within. Our power play is our enforcer.
-
Andersson. Or did you mean "You mean Cory"? meh. Words are annoying.
-
If we break up Z and D, Weiss should center the third line, IMHO. That's not a knock against Weiss, I just like the depth it'd give us down the middle, especially if we ever get (the old) Helm back. I mean, think about it: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Helm/Andersson? Arguably the best middle in the league, at least in theory. But I only want to see Z and D split up if it's very obviously not working for them and/or for the team.

Too much job security, IMHO.

The way I remember it (and I could be remembering it wrong), Franzen got a shot off and then curled off to the left (which, to be fair, was probably him being mindful of his defensive responsibilities. Which I really can't complain about.) So: yes, Franzen did sort of "drive the net," but, at the end of the sequence, it was Weiss with the dirty nose. IMHO.

Your newfound Franzen hate pleases me. He is a lazy sack of crap who may score 30 goals but 25 of them will be scored in one game, and he needs to be packaged with a prospect and/or pick or whatever it takes to get a high-end defenseman with a sick first pass, and did I mention he's lazy? FEED FREE THE MULE
-
As useless as Franzen is on a scoring line, I fear he'd be even more useless on a checking/energy line. I'm way past ready for him to be traded.

This is my first go-around with Gamecenter and, yeah, I'm starting to kick myself. In all honesty, though? I'm not worried. Just peeved.

Mrazek has been terrible. Lemme guess who fired that shot....

IT WAS BRILLIANT AND YOU WILL LIKE IT
-
Bright side: at least we're not the Rangers.
-
Babs did say Franzen is supposed to be the second line's key piece, i.e. its success hinges on Franzen more than it does Weiss or Alfredsson (in theory).

Personally, I'm not expecting Helm to be back at 80-100% until January at the very earliest. If Tatar and/or Nyquist isn/t/aren't playing regular minutes by that point, then I officially hate Ken Holland and Mike Babcock. Unless we're winning.

Thoughts. 1. Last night we were exposed by a brilliant, ballsy coach and a hungry, disciplined team. Tippett realized our blue line is actually garbage in its own zone, so he "pinch shifted" his entire team forward, putting our young, bumbling D under extreme pressure and duress, and, in turn, completely stunting our attack. I call this strategy "salting the earth." Kill the the ground, the soil, the ultimate foundation...and nothing will grow. It was incredible to see. We can only hope other teams don't try the same thing, because if they do, we're screwed. 2. Smith and Quincey may be the worst pairing in the league. One of them needs to sit for a game or two or three or four hundred. Brutal. Terrible. Garbage. 3. We have so many borderline useless fourth-line scrubs on this team. Get off your lazy ass, Holland, and do whatever it takes to get Nyquist back in this lineup ASAP. At the very least, we're sorely missing his speed. 4. Babs needs to get over his fear/hatred of kids. Play Tatar, let him run wild on a new Kids Line with Nyquist and Andersson. 5. Through four games we've played, like, 40 good minutes, if that. Wonderful.

Howard looks injured. Very slow. We need an elite, top-pairing puck-mover. I think it's pretty clear the D overachieved last season.
-
Good God Almighty, we are terrible.
