I'm with Dan Rosen:

Seriously. Look, I hate our team as much as the next guy. But it's been three f****** games. How long did Flip have? Forever? C'mon. We all know Weiss is a good player, quite possibly even a better player than Flip. How can we possibly make that call? Because Weiss consistently put up better numbers on a consistently craptastic Panthers team, whereas Flip consistently had the best "supporting cast" a guy could ask for yet he still managed to consistently disappoint. Again, Weiss has had all of three games to gel. And to his credit, he hasn't looked terrible. Maybe not the second coming of Shanahan circa '96-'97, but oh well.

Simmonds, or Voracek, or Hartnell, or Lecavalier, or Couturier, or Timonen, or Streit. Or Giroux. Or...

Just be sure it's not a name you may very well end up regretting (e.g. player could very well end up traded).

BTW: The Ed Snider Vote of Confidence is now 0-2.

Should've been a Wing, Vinny. tsk tsk tsk

I get the feeling this was a "one-time experiment." Y'know, like, "Hey. Tatar. Score five goals in this game or it'll be the last game you play as a Wing." Because, come on, Babs and/or Holland love(s) Sammy to pieces. I mean, for all we know, Babs was just resting Sammy up, like Selanne.

We do need more speed. Nyquist would go a long way in helping that cause. Regarding the second line, if one of those three guys really needs to pick it up and lead, I'm gonna say it's Franzen. He knows the systems, he's a huge body with good speed (when he feels like really skating), he's supposed to be one of our big guns in the scoring department, and Babs himself has said he's the key to the line's success (or lack thereof). I really don't know what to do about our bottom six.

Baertschi and Zibanejad thrown under the bus publically
Dabura replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Oh, I was just talking out-of-context. Truth be told, I don't know enough about Zibanejad to say what I would and wouldn't be willing to give up for him. -
Well, I mean, I'm not saying I don't believe they've ever talked about a non-Canadian player or anything like that. Because that'd be ridiculous. I guess I'm more referring to the way the stuff was covered last night. Is it like, one week is just all-Canada (heavy on Toronto and Ottawa - because both are "great, great teams," according to Mr. Healy), and then the next week will be more open and inclusive? Or does a team basically have to be either Canadian (duh) or playing a Canadian team that night to get serious coverage? I'm asking because, well, Canada fascinates me. I've only been there for my youth hockey tournaments, and that was 10+ years ago, so I really don't remember a ton. The idea of a place where hockey is treated the way (American) football is treated here in the States...it seems too awesome - and silly - to be true. So, I guess what I'm saying is, Canada isn't real.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that we have a four-day break...after having been forced to play three games in four nights...?

Steve Yzerman wants Game Misconduct penalties for fighting
Dabura replied to thegerkin's topic in General
Actually, a game misconduct likely wouldn't cut down on that last thing I mentioned - the last-minute antics. In fact, I could see it leading to more of those situations. I guess the fix would be a carry-over system, i.e. if you fight past a certain point in the game, you get tossed from the current game and you sit out the next one. -

I think I'm with the two above me. You wanna fight, fine, but you're out of the game then. Keeps fighting in the game, but - I have to think - would cut down on all the ridiculous staged fights and the "retribution" for good, clean hits. And pretty much everything the Anaheim Ducks do in the way of "fighting" (see: "sending a message" with forty seconds left. blargh.) -
I think the the big concern right now is that we still seem to be struggling to put the puck in the net. And not just on the power play (which is a given, I guess), but at even strength. Could it be because so much is asked of the forwards in terms of defensive responsibility?

http://www.freep.com/article/20131006/SPORTS05/310060106/1053/sports05 lolz To be fair, Semin is a fairly big body.

*shrug* On a related note, I watched Hockey Night in Canada on the NHL Network last night and there was no mention - from what I watched - of any of the non-Canadian games. Not even the Wings game. Is that normal? Also, is Glenn Healy senile? I'd only seen HNiC, like, twice before. ZOMG AMERICAN N00B

I have to think this is a big reason for the start time.

Even if we each had a lot of what the other wanted, I don't see us dealing with each other for a long time. I know it's kind of blasphemy, because one can say it was totally fair (and I guess it was), but Holland going after Alfie...not really something you do with expectations of dealing with the jilted party in the near future (i.e. it's a bridge burner). But then, Holland seems to have lost most if not all of his "trade mojo" anyway.
