My impression is the "competitive fire" angle that everyone and his mom has touched on relates mostly to the here and now, i.e. training camp, the preseason, and, ultimately, the question of who will make the team (and who won't). What I'm saying is, what if it doesn't end there? What if Babs is planning on both of them being on the team, and the competition thing (whatever you want to call it) being another instrument to play? I haven't slept in, like, forever, so it's entirely possible that I am in fact coming off like a dope in saying the above.

Lineups

Not even an injury, just sore. Actually, the whole purpose of him sitting tonight is to make sure it doesn't become a full-fledged injury. (Secretly, Franzen just can't be bothered to participate in a season that matters even less to the Wings than the regular season. "What is this joyless insanity you call 'the preseason'? he asks.")

So I was thinking. What if Babs wants Cleary and Tatar Tots on the same team? What if that's his Evil (Secret) Master Plan? Y'know, lighting a competitive fire under Tatar, and maybe even Cleary, to squeeze maximum outputage from him/them. AAAUUGGHH MY EYES! THE BRILLIANCE IS BLINDING! Or maybe I'm giving too much credit, or reading too deeply into this.

This all day. I like Brunner. I was upset when he walked. But, honestly, I'd rather have Tatar. Brunner may be a stud in Europeland, and he was good for us, but Tatar's the reigning playoff MVP at the AHL level, and he's insanely driven right now, with a big ol' chip on his shoulder. And, yeah, Weiss's hard-nosed two-way play over Flip's dolphiny one-way two-way play.

It's a sexy project, and product. Very ambitious, even though, really, all they're doing is showing you what goes into a season, behind the scenes and all. EDIT: Beaten to the punch in my own thread! Oh well. I put the link in the first post, so hopefully people won't be all wtf? now.

It's a phenomenal documentary of the Habs' 2012-13 season (i.e. last season), minus the playoffs. An absolute must-watch for any and every hockey fan. Lemme try and find a link....

My thoughts exactly. Makes me wonder if there wasn't...*something else* that might've inflenced his decison to leave (e.g. wanting to be a real superstar go-to guy). But maybe thats not fair. He seemed to have a really good attitude. I guess, for whatever reason, I just feel like Babs' comments about how you need to be an "every-dayer" and have an incredible work ethic and all that were made partially in allusion to Brunner. ("He'll learn to play right....") Or maybe he is a really good guy and his agent - who's known as kind of a nut, right? - simply screwed him (and himself) over. Or maybe this is the best thing for everyone and everything works out beautifully. WHATEVER MAN
