Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

I have to think Holland has some deal in place, more or less. For all we know, he could've reached some kind of verbal agreement in principle a month ago and he and the would-be partner have just been waiting to see if something better doesn't come along. Or maybe he really is improvising. In which case...well, honestly? That's kinda cool. Bad business and all that, maybe. But also kinda cool. Or not. Whatever. -
Torts on Twitter: "most narcissistic thing I have ever seen"

Someone should make one for the Canucks' locker room. And instead of it being an obvious joke, it should appear as legit as humanly possible. Just to mess with opponents. (Most people over 40 or 50 don't really understand Twitter.) -

So Cleary basically used Philly to get Holland to commit? Clever. -

I'm ok with this. -
I can live with that. How much coin, though?

Possibly less ice for Tatar? Possibly Tatar gets bumped down the depth chart? Not to be a jerk, but it's not a difficult concept. I think, realistically, it probably wouldn't have a huge impact on Tatar. But to say there'd be no impact at all? At the end of the day, a roster spot is a roster spot. I don't think theoretical lines are quite as important here as one might think (i.e. us thinking, "Well, Tatar's gonna be on the third line, so what's the deal?" doesn't really mean anything). And honestly, I'll be surprised if Tatar doesn't spend a good deal of time on the fourth line, given, well, history. Ulltimately, I'm not outright opposed to Cleary coming back. But it has to make sense.

I don't think anyone absolutely, unequivocally hates the idea of Daniel Cleary remaining a Red Wing. If he could be had for a really great contract, and if his presence were to not have a negative effect on Tatar's chances, wouldn't we all be ok with that? I think so. Especially if he gets nights off in the regular season. So, the real concern, I think, lies not with Cleary himself but with the idea of paying him around 2.75 for around three years, and how that would very likely hurt the development of a good young talent or two.

Oooo, I like that!

Rookie you're most looking forward to watching this season

Jarnkrok. OK, fine. Tatar. -
Good fit. Seems like once Lids left, White was, shall we say...exposed a bit.

That's what I'm thinking.

You forgot to mention Samuelsson and Bertuzzi. I think Nyquist is safe. If Helm's not ready to go (and, really, even if he is), Anderson should be safe. (Anderon > Emmerton) Kindl and DeKeyser should be totally safe; I don't expect Lashoff to bump either one, and even if he does.... The one I'm really worried about? That would be Tatar. All the guy does is tear the AHL a new you-know-what and look like he belongs in a stint with the big club. If this were any other organization, he'd probably be a top-six NHL star (meaning, of course, a guy who plays in the top six. Not one of the six best in the league. JUST CLARIFICATING OK? OK) The funny (except not) thing is, I think Tatar's going to be sort of a Cleary-type in that he likes going to those hard areas and causing damage. He even fought a dude in the playoffs. Granted, that's the AHL. But still. THIS IS MADNESS NO. THIS. IS. ...WAIT YES IT IS MADNESS

This just in! The Sens' best roster in years might be about as good as the Wings' worst roster in years! Full story @ 10! [/potstir]

Thread is too PC (IMO). The Sedins are fat.

I like how we couldn't sign Lecavalier because, omg, his age and "pace" (serious concerns! Serious concerns!), but we'll move heaven and earth to re-sign...Daniel Cleary.

Puck Daddy: Alex Pietrangelo talks break off for St. Louis Blus; defenseman won't report to camp Getter done, Ken! (Kidding.) (Sort of.)

I wonder how Tatar feels about this.

My only gripe with them as players is they're rather one-dimensional, aren't they? On a personal (but not rly cuz i dont no them imho) level, I call them the gingercreeps.

My gut says Cleary will be a Wing by December at the latest. Holland is too nice and loyal, and - whether you like Cleary or not, or whatever - Cleary is his big reclamation project success story. It feels so weird reading "Well, we tried to meet in the middle, but we had to move on. Thxbai" comments from Holland re: Cleary.
