Y'know what? I kinda like this. Really, I do. Kinda. But only if there are other deals in the pipeline and we're not letting Flip and Brunner go just so we can have a Holy Trinity of Over-the-Hillers in Alfredsson-Bertuzzi-Samuelsson. And, seriously, if Alfie's in, Danny Boy needs to be out.
-
Yeah, this is kinda my thinking at the moment. And, y'know what, I think it's Holland's as well. My guess is, Holland realized Cleary was/is probably gone, which, like him or hate him, would leave a grizzled-leadership-and-clutch-playoffs-play void on our roster. Alfredsson would be an all-around upgrade. Guy is a warrior. A hungry warrior. With a chip on his shoulder. Again, I'm not the biggest fan of this idea ("Alfie" coming here), but it's not the abomination people are making it ot to be.
-
Very true. But, I mean, Alfredsson specifically. If you'd told me last week that he'd up-and-leave the Sens and bolt for Motown, well, I woulda said U CRAYZEE. Though I did get the sense (pun) he was real unhappy with something or other in Sens World during that whole "Yeah, we basically suck" thing.

This is so weird.
-
It's "official": he's not returning to Ottawa, will sign with us or with Boston. Those in-the-know think it's the former.
-
I get the sense he's just genuinely curious about the whole going-to-market experience and learning what his "real value" is.
-
Not the biggest fan of this idea, but here's what I do like about it: if he comes here, it'll be for one reason and one reason only, and that is to win an effing Cup - and this season.

Seguin, Eriksson swapped in 7-player deal between Bruins and Stars

O, plz. Nill is being proactive, aggressive, creative, etc. He's making stuff happen. He's making deals. "Yeah, well, that's all endemic to Dalls and their situation. Apples and oranges." Going into Draft Weekend Holland was all about the being-proactive-aggressive-creative-and-making-stuff-happen (" [ . . . ] maybe a two-for-one, or a three-for-one, or a three-for-two, [ . . . ] or a seventeen-for-sixty-four [ . . . ] .") But then, shucks, wouldn't you know it, no such luck. And so now we're holding a torch for Filppula and daydreaming about Cleary and how good he'd look in a Wings jersey. (There's a dozen teams interested in him! He's practically a premier power-forward now! And we're gonna land him @ something like $3 million for 3 yrs! HOLLAND FTW!!!) -
Vanek or death. And Weiss, I guess.

Holland is Lucy. We're Charlie Brown. The specific football changes every offseason (and trade deadline), but the basic concept/dynamic stays the same. What really irks me is that seemingly everything he says is a crock. I mean, this DRAFTING IS EVERYTHING. YOUTH. HOMEGROWN TALENT BAY-BEE kick - is that why we signed Samuelsson, Colaiacovo, and Tootoo? Is that why we very seriously pursued Suter and Parise? Is that why we swooned for Salo? We went with the kids out of sheer necessity and desperation. And over the course of their stay - or maybe all at once, in a Eureka! moment - Holland realized, "Hey...kids = I can do and say whatever I want and no matter what the eventual outcome, I'm covered! We don't make the playoffs? It's a rebuild! We make it to the WCF? Ha! We don't do rebuilds here in Hockeytown! I can't land a big-name player? Drafting is everything! We're so homegrown! We are ridiculously smallish up front, especially down the middle? We just drafted some big guys! And drafting is everything! True, we won't see them for years, if at all, but every team goes through dry spells because that's how it is in The Cap Era! So get off my case about not signing some quality NHL power-forward guy who could score that Game 7 overtime goal against the 'hawks, the reality is there are 30 teams in this league! Two to tango! Maybe a two-for-one! Or a three-for-one! Or a three-for-two!!!! We like our team! We're gonna kick some tires! We're set on D - and we're looking hard for a high-end first-or-second-pair defenseman! We don't need you, Flip, because we have options now! Wait, we may need you, Flip, because I was trolled into thinking we had options - but we don't! Or maybe I'm just lazy/inept/crunk! Or maybe a four-for-three!!!!!! -

He's Tim Thomas, he's good for the fare.

Makes me think of Epcot.
-
So...he's leaving Boston?
-
I heard Babs was super-stoked about this pick. Any vids, quotes...pics?
-
Or we just really, really need to get bigger, stronger.
-
Well, if Schneider could be had for a draft pick...
-
Also, wasn't Zetterberg incredibly smallish and skinny and overlooked? Obviously this Hampus kid is the new Zetterberg.
-
I want a school with a big Hampus. Maybe Carnegie Melen.

"Grower." As in, "It takes awhile to really get into it. It grows on you. It's a grower." I think we did alright. Time will tell, of course. Disappointed that we didn't make any moves re: our immediate roster.

Canucks trade Schneider to Devils for 9th overall pick

Drafts need more fights, IMHO.
