I might be missing something, but it seems to me he's just stating the obvious: that Datsyuk's days are, in fact, numbered. That has nothing to do with Russia or whatever. It's his age. Ideally, he plays here into his 40s and continues to tear s*** up even then, a la Selanne. But, well....

I can think of a few reasons. Sure, to us, the "right" decision is obvious. But put yourself in his shoes. He's, what, 14 years old? And he could be playing top minutes for an NHL team next week? And some of these teams are so bad/desperate that there's pretty much no way he'd ever be sent down to the AHL? And, what's more, he'd get The Star Treatment?

Jokes and sacrasm and all-around pessimism aside...it'd be ******* great having Iginla on this team, if only for one round. I mean run. Big (by our standards), strong, fire-in-the-belly, hungry-for-his-first-and-probably-only-Cup kind of guy. He'd bring an element or two or three that we're sorely lacking. Power play problems? Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Iginla. Sick.

That was pretty awesome, I'm not gonna lie.

It's easy (incredibly easy) to rip on him, but, credit where it's due: he knows his stuff, and he's a pretty good talker. Actually, my only real knock against him is how, when he's between the benches, every frickin' thing he says during play - when he's off-camera - is directed at "Edzo." It's almost always some kind of leading/rhetorical question, and "Edzo" never responds, unless Pierre asks a second time (because he's had one too many hard lemonades, or whatever). Not that Murphy doesn't know his stuff. The talking side of things, I can't really comment on - because I don't live in Michigan.

This does irk me. Also: players getting all uppity over clean hits. (Unless the receiver's a soft star or whatever.)

For better or for worse, Franzen's not going anywhere.
