LETS GO JACK-ETS!!! -
Agreed on all points. I guess I was thinking more about the summer. By then, everyone should "be back." In any case, thanks for the thoughtful reply. That last bit is kinda sorta encouraging. I guess.

What happened yesterday is we didn't show up, and the Blue Jackets did, and it cost us two points. There's really no excuse for that, especially given that it's not the first time this season. (The not-showing-up thing, I mean.) Here's to hoping we at least show up today. That would be an improvement in itself. -

Win or die. -
Not saying he should've predicted it. Just saying, it's not like Semin's an all-out, balls-to-the-walls cancer who barely moves on the ice and drags everyone down and blah blah blah. We need goals (just as we have for the past several seasons, if not more), and Semin has a nose for the back of the net. He wasn't high on my list this summer, but, well, credit where it's due, I guess.

Perry/Wheeler/Clarkson and Girardi.

He and the 'canes seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. Just sayin'.

I like to think it's Babs' way of death-staring Holland. "Make a move, Ken. I need a high-end piece."
-
Something I don't really get: We're all, "Yay! The young guys are finally getting a shot, and showing their stuff! So there are gonna be some big changes this summer!" But the only reason the young guys are up on The Big Club to begin with is injuries (e.g. Helm, Bertuzzi, Filppula, Samuelsson, Colaiacovo....) So what happens when these guys get healthy and return to the lineup? What happens to our youth movement then? Am I way off in assuming Tatar & Co. will get flushed back down to Grand Rapids and Holland will say something to the effect of "This whole ordeal has shown us our young guys can step in when called upon. (But there's just no room for them as is)"? Which is ok, I guess. I just can't wrap my head around why everyone seems to think all these young guys are now full-timers.

Thing is, the playoffs are a different ball game. We all know this. And we all know it's a ball game that has not been kind to the Wings in recent seasons. And we all know (whether we want to admit it or not) that that's mostly on our scoring, or lack thereof, not "puck luck." And so here we, having scoring problems again - but, wowzers! We're third in the Western Conference! And don't worry about our special teams! They'll just, well, they'll just start clicking! And then we'll be unstoppable! Not trying to be a prick. I'm hoping for the best...and preparing for the worst.

We like our farm.

We all knew this was coming. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But--well, you get it. Any time we find ourselves doing really well and feeling really good about ourselves and saying things like "If we can do [x] and [y], we'll be fine," you know there's a pathetic shut-out loss to the Blue Jackets hiding just around the corner. Realignment can't come soon enough.
-
Makes sense. I mean, we all know the Norris is about personal point totals and offensive flair...and Kronner's been rackin' 'em up...
-
What really grinds my gears? The new hand rules. What garbage. But yes, three cheers for 5-on-5! The only thing I don't like about it is, well, you said it: even strength suits us, because our special teams = death. So, what, are our special teams just going to build up more rust now? If so, what happens when the phantom calls make a comeback (as at least one person in this thread has correctly predicted they will)? HOLD ME I'M SCARED!

Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/03/red_wings_one_step_closer_to_m.html So this is pretty awesome. Oh, you guys already talked about it. *rainy parade* -
To be honest, I feel like the "regular season success means nothing" line rings a little hollow in this case. This is a very good team playing very good hockey. And they're not terribly far removed from their Cup run (in terms of both time and personnel), so they know, and have, what it takes to get it done in the playoffs. Exactly.
-
Correct. He's kicking tires. Which is not standing pat. The standing pat bit comes directly after the tire kicking. "We kicked a whole lot of tires, felt real strong about a couple names. But, ultimately..."

I am liking Damien Brunner as a Red Wing.
